I was working at a " Roadhouse" restaurant that had this song in the juke box. I found out who sung it and actually went out to buy the CD. Such a great song.
I first heard this summer 2023 and wondered how it was possible I'd never heard it before. Can't stop playing it. Spectacular vocals. Love the arrangement, especially how everything overlays that almost discordant clunky acoustic bottom. Great Song.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ who's singing this one with the longtime Patty thank you you and Shawn Colvin run the stage with me at eTown live. Fun show. It was great to see you back at the theater. I'm still singing this one. Love love love. This one means something very sentimental❤ someone who's no longer with us loud and clear. Still singing
I wished Patty had given us more LP's like this one vs the folksy type music she has morphed to. I have almost all her CD's and they are great, but none measure up to the greatness of this one....driving rock vocals, great band backing her. I would love to see Flaming Red Vol 2
This woman is awesome. Got to see her while in Santa Cruz, Ca. Epic. I was so nervous as I don't do concert.. but this was like 200 people. One of the few songs I have to sing along with .
I got a copy of this song in the summer of 1998. They gave out a sampler CD of artists on the various bills for Lilith Fair when you attended. I had this track on that CD spinning constantly from then on.
everybody run 'til you're flying touch the sky without even trying everybody *swinging* from a big star everybody riding in a **** car don't know if it's swinging and don't know what kind of car, but this is my favorite verse
Very Beatlesque tune. The snare sound is almost identical to Ringo's snare on Yellow Submarine. Very distinctive. I wonder if they sampled his snare for this tune?
Guys. This song has some of the most terrible lyrics I’ve ever heard. In consecutive couplets, she rhymes “funky/monkey” and “hero/zero.” And these are just the most egregious examples.
@@winritzert3310 I wouldn't go so far as to call *her* egregiously clueless-that's going too far bro!-but I stand by my assertion that the rhyming couplets in this song are egregious and also ghastly.
@@actualair Ghastly? Hahaha. Is that the "big" word you learned today. Your application of it is odd. Me thinks you're not the intellectual powerhouse you believe yourself to be.
Sometimes we can live without a spoon fed perfectly written song. Besides , this song with the quirky lyrics works. Any song that makes you sing along is a good song.
I think something happened on this download. My CD version sounds better than this one. I noticed immediately the difference when it began playing. And it seems a step slower than the CD version.

I did the same exact thing. The rest of the record is amazing as well.
Great lyrics

i downloaded it on napster in 2001! glad it’s still being heard!
Such a wonderful, quirky song. I always play this at least 2-3 times when I hear it. The vocals and acoustics are heavenly.

My soul has a love affair with Patty's voice and messages....

Yes this saved me in what 1999? And again now. Can't stop

Very distinctive voice.....love the song!
Nicely arranged, intelligent lyrics. Great song. Thank you Patty and the band.

この歌大好き
It's on Emmylou's Red Dirt Girl; where I first heard it. I love both versions.
I remember first hearing this song at 15 Watching digging to China
Such a cool song. Can't believe there are only 132 views and no comments.
it's because her engineer and producer suck. this could have been a big hit
So groovy
Ideal
I don't know about you but I'd go for a swim in the high tide with Patty Griffin anytime.
cannot like hard enough
Digging to China movie 1998
everybody run 'til you're flying
touch the sky without even trying
everybody *swinging* from a big star
everybody riding in a **** car
don't know if it's swinging and don't know what kind of car, but this is my favorite verse
This song is so good its just too short ik keep pressing re-play. I guess i'm taking my chances....One BIG love...wohahoa...be funky 🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼
They play this at my work and it makes me want to rip my hair out
Back when this song came out I bought the CD and played it until the laser had burned it smooth
Why do I feel like Ringo Starr's unique drumming style would've worked with this song?
Very Beatlesque tune. The snare sound is almost identical to Ringo's snare on Yellow Submarine. Very distinctive. I wonder if they sampled his snare for this tune?
Can t recognize her voice here. She sounds so much like Harriet from the Sundays here!!!!
Rip
Digging to china

Are you from China Timmy?
When Patty said, "no defense defending your hon-ah", her Mainah accent slipped. Ayuh.
sense*
Great song. Horrible mix
Patty deserves better.

She needs a different mic for the vocal--whoever records and producers her should be fired. So tinny.
Doesnt sound tinny to me. Maybe your headphones suck.
