Good overall, though as in any other driving/biking situation, first come is first served. If the person on a bike is there first, they will likely stay in the bike lane, even with the dashes. The driver should assume a position behind the cyclist. If the driver arrives before the cyclist, they move over and the cyclist moves left. The issue is that inexperienced cyclists may not feel comfortable moving left and will stay right, so be sure to check that right side before moving through the turn. I teach bike/ped/scooter info in drivers ed classes in Idaho.
Hi Lisa Brady - Thank you for your comment and really great information. As you stated, experienced or not, I'm not sure I would move out of the bicycle lane; I believe I would stay forward, and then the vehicle would move in behind me and wait to make the turn. Little doubt, the rules can be confusing especially when combined with the culture of social driving. All the best, Cheers Rick
Thank you so much for all the videos you make. I got my class 7 (N) at the Surrey BC ICBC location on my second try. I had no errors on my second attempt! During the first time I failed to scan a railway crossing and failed to scan the right side twice on a left turn green arrow. I made sure to scan extra on my 2nd attempt and passed! Smart Drive Test and Conduite Facile have been my main RUclips learning sources. Both awesome channels!
Hi Ace Clutch - that is a awesome news. Hi! Question - what if there’s a car parked right where the bike lane’s dotted line starts and it’s going to be a difficult/sharp turn to marge I by o the bike lane for the turn?
What should I do if I need to turn right into the dmv entrance but theirs a solid white bike lane ? 1.should I enter the bike lane n turn right into the dmv 2.should I go over the the solid white lane ?

Hi Rick , in Ontario there are new road markings - green color boxes with bicycle sign, sometimes in the right corner , some on the driving lanes as well . For the road test , are we supposed to avoid driving on it or drive with caution ? I’m so confused ! I’m trying to do the test in Newmarket ON , they have new.y painted bicycle lanes all over the place !
Hi Wine & Dine Roadies - Can you take a picture of that and send it to me: rick@smartdrivetest.com ? And have a look at this vid too: ruclips.net/video/pONhqb7VaVg/видео.html All the best, Cheers Rick

What is the rule if a cyclist gets to the intersection first and is waiting for the light to turn green, should the rider move left to let a car behind make a right turn or stay on the bike lane?

0:11 there are cars parked on the curb. If we can’t cross Solid white lines. Why did the city make the space for cars to park on the curb? Is it still illegal at that point to cross? Because we “can’t” cross it for a right turn. But why about for parking?? Very confusing
I want to add something. Straight through traffic in the bike lane usually has the right of way. I know Dumb as shit. But if you pass a cyclist who is in the bike lane and then execute a right hand turn you better make sure that you are not going to collide with that cyclist that you just passed. Right hooks are a large percentage of the car vs. bike collisions.
Hi Pedal Traffic - Thank you for your comment and information. I agree with you my friend. I once collided with a car in that exact scenario. A car made a right-turn in front of me and I 'T' Boned the car. Not a fun experience. All the best, Cheers Rick
@@smartdrivetest it’s legal to enter a bike lane 200 feet before the turn though, so regardless of whether it’s dashed or solid wouldn’t it be legal to enter the lane? Just watched a behind the wheels test in California that failed because they entered the bike lane too late, at the dashed marks
@@stemp1168 - can you send me that link please? Are you in CA? 200'ft is a great distance; if you're turning right at the intersection, you only have to move your vehicle to the right and nose in approximately 2-3 car lengths from the intersection. Cheers Rick

You can cross the line but you shouldn't be driving or idling in the bike line

To tell you not to treat it like a lane first of all

Crossing solid white lines is NOT prohibited but discouraged. Completely legal to cross a single solid white line.
Yes thank you. Stay out of the bike lane
