  • A video portrait of a Prairie Warbler gathered at Land Between the Lakes, Kentucky. This individual's song is a rapid series of buzzy notes that rise in pitch from beginning to end. The Prairie Warbler is quite handsome; note the chestnut streaks on the back of his neck.

ID'd this bird for the first time today & it's great to have such great video confirmation of what I saw & heard. The dark undereye circles crack me up, like someone didn't get his 8 hrs of sleep.

Ive been referring to this as the 'cannon bird' because it sounds exactly like when an enemy in a video game locks on to you and is about to blast you with a missile, but it gives you an audio cue so that you have at least a tiny bit of warning to get out of the way... so when we heard these on our walk i would insert the explosion sound at the end of every call. anywho, good bird, great portrait

Ah, I hear this one all the time during the summer. C: I can never find the bird singing it, though.

I got a crappy photo yesterday in Assiniboia SK of what showed all sign of the Prairie Warbler, about 20 of them moved in to feed on the little seed blossoms on the trees. I had Cassins finch this spring and there not supposed to be here and pairs of big mature ravens.

Not even close, I have them in my area. They have more of a trill call.

Try not to confuse them as Common Yellowthroats.
