Hawaii is expensive. Yet I was lucky to live in a three bedroom for $1,500. Average price is $1000 a room. So now I have a 2 bedroom for $2000. So if your paying $1,500 for 2 bedroom in Vietnam is a rip off!!
@@main2333 wow that is lucky! haha. I'm preping to move to Hawaii soon for work and most studio/small one bedroom go for that price (I have a dog so its even worse!)
Seems to me the best way to apartment hunt is on a moto going around with a local looking for "rent" signs. Seems the RE Agents always take you to more expensive places. There are decent studio apartments starting at 250. 350 for sure should find something decent.
Hey Alex. Glad to see you return to Vietnam is going well. I met one of your students in Nguyen Thi Minh Khai street which was cool :) Just wanted to mention that I mentioned your channel/website to my hostel where I'm at while looking for an apartment and they were very impressed and happy that your are sharing these videos. They are going to recommend your channel/website to anyone staying here looking for advice and jobs teaching. There are a few guys here already teaching and the location is pretty good. Sakura Hostel, District 1. All the best. James
Great video, I was also looking for a one bedroom apartment and found it a little expensive (I'm picky lol) so then I decided to go apartment hunting with one of my friends from the TESL course and we're moving into a beautiful 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom serviced apartment ($600) in Phu Nhuan. Good luck with your search, I'm sure you'll find something soon :)
Great vid man! We did 3 days of apartment hunting and was thoroughly disappointed and discouraged each day until we found our apartment! All the places you looked at seemed way more modern then here in Nha Trang though! But holy$$$.
Thank you so much for showing the more practical side of transitioning to a stay overseas! I've taught English abroad as well and was trying to explain to my little sister how she could go about finding a place to stay, cell phone service, etc. overseas, since she is planning to travel and spend a month or so in Japan or Korea. Even though the location is not exactly the same, I was so glad to see this video and show it to her, to give her an idea of what she'll be doing next year. Good luck to you!
I like your videos about teaching in Vietnam. Is it really possible to teach there without a degree? I've a diploma in Journalism and I intend to do a TEFL course. I'm in my 50s. Please, say something regarding the above. Thanks. Sly
I love your vids, you giving me a great view into the life and experience in Vietnam. My daughter has recently arrived in Hanoi to teach and this gives me a little idea of what she is experiencing in vid form.
How does a normal Vietnamese workers salery compare to that of a native English teacher? I'm sure the locals will not be paying such a high price for somewhere to live? While some of the apartments looked quite nice, I would not want to pay such a high price just for an apartment. I think this is where local knowledge, good contacts/Vietnamese friends could pay off.
I don't think it's Vietnam to blame. It's the location that you wanted to rent. You see a big price difference in San Francisco. If you go out the city. It's cheaper. It's best, if know some real local friends.
Oh ... you were staying in Bin Thanh ... we're staying on that same street for 2 month. We love that district .. especially the neighborhood right behind it. So many great street food spots!
I think it could be the agents mark up. Try to get a vn friend to look around and get a quote first. renting to foreigners is more expensive but not that much more like the agents will make you think. if you don't need to be in the centre try the back of d2 and bottom of d7 for bargains. Supply and Demand of these condos must be a factor and they're overwhelmed in those areas. if youre going to be here a while think about looking at houses too even small ones and pushing the landlord for extra AC etc if you raise the rent
Dude, you are a tourist, those are tourist prices in tourist apartments. A VN person will pay < 200 for a nice one bedroom apt. A tourist should be able to pay < 400 for a nice 1 bedroom.
I was a little surprised by the prices of those apartments and your reaction to them. Out of all of the apartments and studio apartments in the US that I've looked at have been in the upper hundreds or around $1000, so when I saw the prices of those apartments I thought they were reasonable, even cheap. Do you not get paid much as a teacher in Vietnam? Or is the cost of living just really low?
I do not really agree with this. If you really look into the prices and average high skilled working labor force, you will see that living in Ho Chi Minh is very cheap and never easy and to be honest, many young skilled working people even have to struggle to live in Ho Chi MInh city even though they have good jobs with good payments , like 1000 $. So stop it , stop the low- cost- of living, Also, go to Hanoi and you will see that stuffs in supermarkets , department stores and yes, house rents are never cheap and the rent is never an easy thing for young people in Hanoi and HCM City. Indeed, the rent is always a problem and something to consider hard for young people in Hanoi and HCM City!!
Yea I want to get a shared house/villa because its much better value plus I just want to live in a sociable house with people anyway, just not sure how to find people lol
oh my i really wished i would go back sometimes and live the "easier" life. Struggeling with law studies here and there is nothing that I can do with my vietnamese language. Keep up those topics-i like them :)
Just a few questions Alex- 1. Do most appartments come with a furnished stove/oven, microwave & toaster, sofa, laundry washer/dryer or are they separately found? I'm sure they have some with air conditioning! 2. What about wifi? Do most have it or do you need to set up your own network? 3. What are the big things to consider when hunting for a place in HCMC? 4. Any popular expat appartment/house-sharing and community forums (like craigslist or something) you recommend?
Hello. I am Vietnamese. Basically apartments in Vietnam are full furnished! You have to move in. That is the main thing and necessary thing for us, even for college students who rent apartments! WIfi is almost availabe anywhere in VIetnam including bus , convenience stores and hotels, etc.Stop worrying about such nonsense things
you have a talent for finding the overpriced apartments.
Hawaii is expensive. Yet I was lucky to live in a three bedroom for $1,500.

Hey James, thanks for mentioning it to them!
I remember once I got off agents and searched on my own and with friends, I could get nicely priced apartment.
Awesome
I'm In Vung Tau, Vietnam just now & those prices are over the top man, you can find much cheeper places to stay than this
Great vid man! We did 3 days of apartment hunting and was thoroughly disappointed and discouraged each day until we found our apartment! All the places you looked at seemed way more modern then here in Nha Trang though! But holy$$$.
Pho Your Eyes Only not using proper resources for Vietnam!
Tatiana BONET CASARINI he's already moved....twice!!!
Pho Your Eyes Only just like how its 300usd for a 3bed and 2 bath beach house. Since USD currency rules

Local salaries are low yes.
I do not think it is really that low?? Average skilled worker payment should be roughly 800$ to 100$ and above. That is low enough????
I don't think it's Vietnam to blame. It's the location that you wanted to rent. You see a big price difference in San Francisco. If you go out the city. It's cheaper. It's best, if know some real local friends.

By international law they can raise price in USD. They have to sell everything in the equal amount and fair amount to their own currency.
Elite Swarrior stop justifying. They’re charging gringo prices. If a Vietnamese rents it, it would be 1/3 of that price. So wrong.
Do a video on Budget apartments
Dude, you are a tourist, those are tourist prices in tourist apartments. A VN person will pay
< 200 for a nice one bedroom apt. A tourist should be able to pay < 400 for a nice 1 bedroom.
Chuc Mung thats right
Chuc Mung why is it more expensive for tourists? Do they see white people and charge them more because they know they can afford it lol
Philip Champion they charge every foreigner more
This is not cheap rent. To move there I would need a studio for $100 per month
I would probably look into a 1 bedroom unit/apartment for USD$350-750 per month
too expensive!! , should be $200
Do they have a rental site (like realestate.com.au) or is it a lot of visiting local real estate offices ?
Alex, where are you looking for apartment? I maybe able to help. I live in the States, but have a condo at Vinhomes Central Park.
Thanks, I checked out an apartment in Vinhomes. Quite nice.
I was a little surprised by the prices of those apartments and your reaction to them. Apartments are Definitely not cheap compared to Thailand.
Awesome video 😊
are these prices us dollars?
Yep. They know their targets. Lol
How do you keep focused with all the eye candy there?
What camera and gear do you use ?
Are most all leases for 12 months or can you get 6 month leases ?
+rogerluli there are quite a lot of 6 month leases. You can negotiate
You get a trash can as a studio in LA for 1000 a month lol.
living in district one is too expensive
They like people that share: rooms, time. Man it inflated quick.
That food looks delicious :)
oh my i really wished i would go back sometimes and live the "easier" life. Struggeling with law studies here and there is nothing that I can do with my vietnamese language. Keep up those topics-i like them :)
Will do!
Short hair suits you better by the way!
Please say in US dollars...versus Vietnamese money
$900,- and 1200,- is cheap actually.
And definitely no roommates,...like ever.
Next video, leave out the preamble, k?
Your vids are very informative. Good work.
Cheers
