    I'm from the U.S., and I've taught at public schools in Taiwan and China. I'm taking care of my criminal background check now and hope to find a job within the next several weeks. I just wish that there were one government organization that you went through - kind of like what they have in South Korea. It's obnoxious that there are so many different companies that place you in public schools - EMG, Power English, Dream House, Hoang Viet, Vina Learn, Apax, etc. Am I missing any?
    Nice channel, BTW. Thanks for making the video!

      That's how the system is here and it's pretty fucked. Very few schools pay for flights or apartments. The cost of living really isn't that cheap and a ton of schools are on bs. There really are not that many jobs right now look online and you'll see there aren't many jobs for the fall semester. And the Vietnamese managed to be more racist than the Chinese when it comes to hiring non white teachers.

    Hi! Thanks so much for a fantastic, informative and fun video! My partner and myself both have our 4 year university degrees, 150 hour TEFL certificate, 250 hour TESOL diploma, plus extra classes in business English and teaching English to young learners. (Can you tell we had time on our hands during the pandemic?) We are excited to be on the ground working, hopefully next year. Vietnam is on our list for sure! Maybe we can connect.

    Just subscribed .. This is a very detailed video I have ever seen on youtube that speaks about most of the aspects of teaching English in Vietnam.
    Is there a specific CV requirement when it comes to applying for a position as a teacher in Vietnam?
    As for the TEFL certificate, Is it necessary to attend physically to get the certificate or is it done only? If yes, can you please name a few centers to apply for a TEFL? Would apprecate it.

    • @damienlee3753
      @damienlee3753 Год назад +3

      As of now, yes. Since the end of the most recent lockdowns however a basic TEFL certificate is required where it previously was not. Please don't let pettiness from the myriad of trolls in the comment sections of different videos discussing this topic deter you. Native-English speakers CAN secure work as an ESL teacher w/o a degree and just a TEFL-cert. The need for ESL teachers has drastically risen since the lockdowns ended and a sizable chunk of foreigners have yet to return to Vietnam because of the inconvenience of the only available visa-option being the 1-month E-visa. Best of luck to you

      @@damienlee3753wow! Horrible and dangerous advice. I am in Vietnam and the immigration police literally do school surprise raids to check for paperwork. I had police show up in corridors of my center at 8pm at night with 4 of them in full uniform stood around me while one demanded to see my necessary paperwork. They can arrest you on the spot and take you to an illegal immigration center for deportation. It was extremely stressful because the school had (falsely claimed) that it would be ok for me to while the paperwork was "in process". Luckily the police accepted my story and let me off with a warning that they might come back and that they expect me to have my official Vietnam government approved I.D (TRC-TEMPORARY RESIDENCE CARD) about this took a photo of my passport that I had in my phone and noting my name and details with a warning. It was such a relief when my work permit a d residence card was finally processed that YOU MUST HAVE A DEGREE TO GET. You CANNOT be here teaching legally with a degree. Do it at your own risk. If this dude thinks I'm just a troll, ok fine. Good luck with that.

      In Vietnam the class size in public schools is always larger than those in English centers, so teachers should be paid more. I don't know why it's like that in China though 😲
