Yes, but I'm not sure about THOSE colours. I'm not keen on the yellow or that shade of green. I might go for the blue, but the burgundy colour of my old DS3 would look best.
Over here in North America all they want to sell are big expensive EV’s. I just think that is the wrong approach. $100,000.00 for a big pickup truck that really can’t tow isn’t going to get people in EV’s.
For me it does not matter how cheap EV’s become until the infrastructure is sorted out so that charging becomes as easy and convenient as filling up with liquid I would not consider buying one.
@irton-nu9iv I've owned an EV for 5 years, it's our only car. In the first couple of years it was 'touch and go' a few times on long hauls to find a rapid charger but in the past 2 years it has been so easy that I hardly bother using the app to plan the journey. We live in rural France, the Poitou-Charente so the nearest towns of any size are 60 km away. We've done 4 trips to UK, one to Germany, two to Switzerland and one to Spain, never had any problems using public chargers and never had to wait to get onto a charger. It seems to me that people who suffer from 'range anxiety' and worry about finding a charger are people who don't own EVs!...I would never go back to hand over my hard earned cash to the oil billionaires and handling a dirty, smelly pump.
@@PeterKirton-nu9iv Its funny after 4 years of EV ownership the idea of having to go to a petrol station feels so convoluted and inconvenient. We do need to see at least one or two rapid hubs in each town for those that can't charge at home, obviously place is at the supermarket so you can charge up for the week while you do your weekly shop.
Here in Québec, Renault were very popular. Unfortunately, we are part of the North American market. The new 5 E-Tech would convince this e-refractory old dude to jump into electric mobility. Love it! Thanks for the insightful--as usual-- review. Cheers.
The original R5 was very chic and Renault have nailed it with this new electric version. I liked the Honda e, but that is no longer. For me this is the most desirable electric car I have seen.

This looks brilliant - especially in yellow. My dad had a GT Turbo in 1986, fantastic fun. I got to drive it sometimes when I was 18/19 before he sold it.
There are loads of videos on the Renault today, but yours is by far the best, principally due to your obvious passion for it. I’m a similar age and was brought up in the world of 205/Golf Gti’s etc and do miss them. This one has gone right to the top of my next company car list (although not sure the wife will want the yellow one!).
Retro design can be tricky. The VW Beetle for instance, pretty in it's own way, but just not cool. This R5 though, wow, absolutely nailed it..! As others have already said, "I want one". 😋
Renault 5 GT Turbo was peak hot hatch. I had XR3i and 205 GTi at the same time and the 5 was by far the best. The new 5 Electric may not be so hot but what a tribute. I'm in!
Back when i was a teenager (a very very long time ago lol) i remember getting a lift off a guy with a 1981 Gordini Turbo. Its stuck with me all these years because in the 80's it was a rocketship. It got the bug for Renault at that point and went on to own a Feugo GTX, 30 TX, and the daddy of them all, a GTA V6 Turbo.
Having had the pleasure of selling the original Renault 5s from launch and then after I left Renault bought and enjoyed a new 5 Gordini, this new 5 brings back wonderful memories. Renault have “smashed” it. Best EV styling I’ve seen.
Hope so, untill know more than 50.000 R-Passes sold, Renauld speaks about more than 100.000.... But honestly, i'am worried about the price. It's still very expensive for such a small Car. shown like in the Video will be around 35K €.

I remember very very clearly how cars like Renault 5s and Fiat Unos felt, they were basically super thin metal and small bits of plastic with engines about the size of a shoebox, and tyres as big as a doughnut. It's almost surprising they weigh as much as 800kg :)
The 1972 original with the umbrella gear lever is just so pure and perfect to me. Still looks modern and yes there is a very passing resemblance between it and the new ev. I have to say I’m extremely impressed. It would be even more lovely to be as soft as the original
I hope this encourages more manufacturers to create ev cars to hark back to the 70’s designs,,, great video pete All credit to Renault for keeping 90% of the concept design

Hello Peter! I wish I could have introduced you to my old friend Hilda who was still driving her 5 GT Turbo at 97 years old and she would have given you a surprise as she was still sharp and quick! She isn’t here now as she died in 2004 aged 101 but what content she would have made! That new 5 deserves success and I think will be an inspiration to help drivers want an EV. I hope you get a test drive car soon! Stay safe!…..I think Darcy might like that baguette holder too much! 😃😃😃😃
She was…she grew up servicing her fathers racing Douglas motorcycles and as a mechanic in the family garage, had a role with SOE during WWII and I met several of her former wartime friends at her 100th Birthday party..some still powerful ladies! She had no concept of old age, was holding dinner parties well into her 90’s, kept a supply of Beluga caviar and Mumm champagne in her fridge and at 99, I had to get her a new fridge which she chose at Curry’s and insisted that she wanted one with a good service life as her old one “…had only lasted 15 years”. She would have been wonderful in a video at Goodwood with you in something fast and would have been well up with most drivers as she had never been slow…and never was. She didn’t have any notable ailments but simply fell asleep one night and didn’t wake up but was 101 as I said! We think of her a lot to this day! 😀😀😀. @@PetrolPed

Bonjour from France Ped!... and thanks for another well presented overview. Transporting baguettes normally result in the front passenger seat getting covered in flour..😂...I will ask my Kia dealer if such an accessory exists with them. 😊...Renault and PSA (Stellantis) are competing hard now for the kind of car that most French people buy.
Looks superb had a couple of R5s.back in the day love the 1972 model with the gear lever through the dashboard. I have just bought R5 priority pass Renault have told me the car won’t be available in RHD in the UK until August at the earliest.
@@PetrolPed I forgot to mention that Renault are sending me a die cast metal model of the new R5 as part of the priority package. Great presentation by the way👍😎

Bang on Pete, it will sell well (even as an EV at launch). In the early noughties when BMW brought out it's modern take on the Mini & when Fiat re introduced the modern-chic 500... big sellers. I think it looks great... i'd pass on the bagette holder & the lipstick gear selector might be seen as sexist... but when in France 😳
I’m torn on evs to say the least. But from just a style design it does look good and I like the yellow color! Great review Sir Pete. I don’t think we get this car brand in the states
Renault have actually smashed it out of the park with the new Renault 5. The first two generations of the BMW Mini, the Fiat 500e and the VW ID. Buzz are really clever likeable retro designs but the Renault 5 combines the original styling cues with a very clean model look. I have a Megane E-Tech which is a terrific looking car but a little on the large size for my needs so the R5 will definitely be at the very top of my wish list in a couple of year’s time. As a warm/hot hatch aficionado the forthcoming Alpine A290 might just fit the bill even better. Not that keen on dark headlining’s so hoping that Renault may offer a panoramic or sunroof similar to that available on the new Scenic on the 5.
OMG, it's been a long time since I've seen a Renault that's caught my attention, but this, this is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! Do you know if they might be bringing this car to North America? I cannot wait to hear your review of when you can do some actual road testing. I hope that goes as well as it looks, if so, and they bring it to North America, I want one!
This has infinitely more charm than any anonymous Chinese offering. Renault going after emotional appeal is a clever strategy.

Renault every once in a while does that. If they didn't, they wouldn't have made the Twingo, or the Clio V6

Cheers, Tom 😊
Many thanks Tom 🙏🏻
Beautiful looking car!
It sure is!
Dare I say as iconique as the original Mini. The basic fifty years old design holds up.
Yep 👍
I was looking to get a EV in a few years time, I might be bringing it forward now! I wish they would do it in Red. I had a R5 Gt turbo in red in 1989.
Its a bloody great looking car cheers mate
Great review, loved the review thanks!
Thanks for watching!
It'll never catch on. No HUGE GRILL 😂😂😂. Seriously what a car. Top marks to Renault 💙🤍❤
👍
Nice and close to the concept car, as you said. Almost as true to the concept as the Avantime back in the day!
Yep 👍
The only two EVs I’ve liked so far, are the Ioniq5 and the R5! Great video.
Good choice!
Lovely looking car. Will be a hit. Hopefully more reliable than UK production for the Megane electric.
Wow. She sounds like a legend 👍
😀😀😀. @@PetrolPed
Nice! Great to see the return of the Renault 5 and great video as always Pete. Mini, beware!
Thanks! 👍
Gorgeous its just a shame they are advertising it as a city car only, i want it to be incredible going on long journeys as well. Oh well guess thats what the Megane E Tech is for. You still need to review the Megane E-Tech - i ordered mine start of Feb but would love your thoughts on it still.
Got to say, this is the first EV I have 'wanted', very interested to see Alpine's spin on it.
Looking cool with enough range to get me from Surrey to Manchester!
👍
Bonjour from France Ped!... and thanks for another well presented overview. Transporting baguettes normally result in the front passenger seat getting covered in flour..😂...I will ask my Kia dealer if such an accessory exists with them. 😊...Renault and PSA (Stellantis) are competing hard now for the kind of car that most French people buy.
Cool, thanks
Looks superb had a couple of R5s.back in the day love the 1972 model with the gear lever through the dashboard. I have just bought R5 priority pass Renault have told me the car won’t be available in RHD in the UK until August at the earliest.
Very nice!
@@PetrolPed I forgot to mention that Renault are sending me a die cast metal model of the new R5 as part of the priority package.
Great presentation by the way👍😎
Just awesome, well done Renault 👏
Glad you liked it
Like that a lot. I'd definitely consider one if it's got decent range and performance, and doesn't cost the earth!

Hello from Denmark, thanks for a fine presentation, thought I should buy the Volvo ex30, but not now, this Renault will be a bigger succes, and a 100%. European build car. My wife had an 6 year old Twingo I love it. Like you, I am total sold😊
Glad I could help 👍
Great video and presentation 👍
Thank you 👍
Absolutely love love love the concept car!:ad a bit of carbon fibre and would be shamazing!!!!!!!!!
Straight from Chanel. Another French design classic 👌
I’m torn on evs to say the least. But from just a style design it does look good and I like the yellow color! Great review Sir Pete. I don’t think we get this car brand in the states
Probably a French thing 😜😂
It sure to be honest. I’ll try to find out 👍
