One of the best countries until 21 century came, then they lost steam, but especially in the early 90-s they took risks and experiments and delivered

Love France in Eurovision, even though 1958 winner is one of my least favourite winners ever. :p
    My Top 3 French entries:
    01. 1977 Marie Myriam ''L'oiseau et l'enfant'' (my winner and real 1977 winner) - the lyrics are beautiful and the verse ''Pays d'amour n'a pas de frontière pour ceux qui ont un cœur d'enfant'' is one of my favourite verses in the entire history of the Contest, incredibly powerful and so true and innocent. Aside from lyrics, the structure of the song, where most of the verses begin with the word that the previous verse ended in, the continuous build up in instrumentation, the soft, light addition of backing vocals in crucial parts of the song. Love, love, LOVE! This song is a contender for my all-time no.1 song in ESC history.
    02. 2018 Madame Monsieur ''Mercy'' (my winner; finished 13th) - again, strong lyrics that make you think and feel. Love the soft, gentle vocals. The song is simple in a good way and gets stuck in my head. Still listen to it, still love it. I agree that the live performance wasn't that great, but I'm here for the songs first and foremost.
    03. 1963 Alain Barrière ''Elle était si jolie'' (my winner; finished 5th) - this is just a beautiful flowing, sort of melancholic/nostalgia vibes, ballad. I played this song in our French class when we learned l'imperfait and everybody loved it! The studio version is even better than the live version because it features female backing vocals that add to the melancholic/nostalgia vibes. A classic!
Other faves from France: 1956 ''Il est là'', 1976 ''Un, deux, trois'', 1979 ''Je suis l'enfant soleil'', 1981 ''Humanahum'', 1991 ''C'est le dernier qui a parlé qui a raison'', 1995 ''Il me donne rendez-vous'', 1997 ''Sentiments songes'', 2013 ''L'enfer et moi'' and 2016 ''J'ai cherché''.
I'm afraid they started going downwards again. 2016-2018 were really strong, 2019 was 'meh' to me and 2020 was just awful. C'mon France, come back strong in 2021!

Nathalie Paque was 11 when she competed in 1989. She and the 12 year old boy from Israel in the same year were the reason the EBU introduced the minimum age in Eurovision the year later (1990).

In the fifties the number of countries ranged from 7 in 1956 to 10 in 1957 and 1958 and 11 in 1959. After 1961 the number of participants picked up ending up to around 16 participating countries each year.

In 1956, Switzerland won but none of the other results were announced so they are all joint second. The first contest with colour was staged at the Albert Hall in London. Many, many ballads from France over the years, some of which I don't mind, others of which are forgettable. 1991 stands out to me only losing out on the win due to the tie-break rule at the time, as does 2001, the finest French entry this century so far. 2016-2018 was a strong period too in my opinion.

Not a fan of France at the Eurovision even tho I adore the language. And how did Twin Twin moustache finish last?? 🙈 I think mercy is my favourite entry from France.
U.K. was my favourite country up until the late 90s. We were pretty dormant, it was great! Sadly no more 🤦🏻‍♀️.

Oh we were just brilliant up until the late 90s! 😂 Then it started to go slightly downhill, similar to Ireland really 😂
