Surely I'm not the only one who wants to put a grill insert in my TJ right? Mine is the angry bird grill insert but this will work for any insert I know of. The issue with being able to install the insert is that you need to cut an access hole in it to be able to open the hood after install. I didn't want to cut up my new insert for my wrangler and no matter how many ways I searched Google I couldn't find an answer. I solved it on my own, a bit crudely, but it works. It could definitely use some refining, but this will get you started on how to hack a remote hood release together for you Jeep TJ. Thanks for watching!

Nice video and perfect timing. I just bought grill inserts and could not figure out how to access the hood release for my 1997 Wrangler TJ. I didn't want to cut a hole in my new inserts either. Your solution was perfect. I plan on stealing your idea. Thanks for taking the time to post! Great!

I searched high and low and couldn't find a suitable solution so I improvised and figured somebody else could use the idea too. That was the whole reason for posting a short video on just the hood release. Glad it helped! Enjoy that new grill insert!

I’ll keep this in mind for when my wife eventually talks me into a jeep with the angry grill.

I couldn't believe there wasn't an easy solution somewhere. Other than cut the grill the only thing I found was to cut the hook and extend it so u could open it far enough to stick your fingers under it and release it. This seemed a lot easier. Lol

Don't think I'll be putting one on the 06 I'm working on, but if I do now I'll know.

Nice little fix there! probably could heat shrink wrap where the cable runs against metal to reduce rub and friction.

I didn't see anywhere it was gonna be too bad. I did end up putting a piece of fuel line over it at the bottom to make it easier to hide. 🤣

@@master-vsons2838 that's a good idea. I was in a hurry so just slapped together with what I had. It could be done a lot nicer. Good luck with it!
