- A Boulder Creek man who went missing during a hike in the Santa Cruz Mountains is finally back home after more than a week. Lukas McClish who had last been heard from 10 days earlier, was rescued by park rangers after someone heard his screams for help echoing through the forest.

I don't get it? If he's an experienced Hiker, why did he break all the rules of Hiking? How to you get lost on a 3 hour hike on a clearly marked trail? If there's suddenly a GoFundMe page, we'll know why!!!
Experienced simply means you've hiked a lot. It doesn't mean you have navigation or survival skills. It's very easy to get lost and disoriented. Happens all the time. If he stepped off trial to use the bathroom or check out wildlife or plant life, it's easy to overestimate your ability to find the trail again.
They said there were forest fires that changed the landscape. Even if he'd hiked in that area before, it might look different now.
He said there had been a fire and the landmarks were gone.

How do you stay lost for 10 days in that region? If you follow any streambed downstream, you will get to the San Lorenzo River within a day or two and the state highway runs parallel to the river. That guy isn't much of an outdoorsman. But that is the San Francisco-Monterey Bay Area, so I guess they have different standards for outdoorsmen/women/whatever, there.
if you watch some other videos, he planned on a 3 day hike and took no supplies with him, not even a cell phone. didnt even tell anyone what trail he was gonig to.

I was thinking the same thing. Follow a streambed down canyon. Its not like the Santa Cruz mountains are completely isolated from civilization. There are towns and roadways through parts of the area.

@@cheesejadeitekiwifox I used to live in Boulder Creek and worked at Roaring Camp as a locomotive fireman, so I know the area. I live in the Rockies now, about an hour away from Yellowstone. If you do that around here, they usually find a partly eaten carcass where a bear got you.

took him 5 days to realize he was lost. most likely circled the same tree, same area, 5000 times.
To get lost where he did you would have to be a little slow , he is from this area and there are roads and trails in every direction he could have gone . All he needed to do was walk in 1 direction , it should have taken him 2 days max to find a road or trail . But he survived so he must have some smarts .
It was 5 days before his dope ran out and he didn't know where he ended up! The dude is a burnout, communing with nature!

Honestly she did fall down her ravine and badly sprained her leg. She repeatedly tried climbing out. But she made many dumb choices on her way down there.

How many times have we seen somebody with exceptional wilderness skills, an experienced hiker, more than adequate equipment and confidence seemingly become so enveloped in the majesty and beauty of the terrain that common sense just seems to fade away.
I've seen that dozens of times. There are whole RUclips channels that just follow those types of people.
I actually got lost hunting because I had to take a big one. I was too busy looking for that perfect log, and wham...I was turned around. Gave new meaning to; "At that moment, relief turned into despair ".

This is why even u plan a day hike, u always carry a compass, a whistle, a med kit, a water filter device, and some survival rations, at the very least. U never know if ull get lost or hurt. Glad this man was found alive.
I didn't hear anywhere in this story about the trailhead he started from or what park/ preserve he was in, nearest town or anything specific to help those of us who know the area to pin down just where he was.

It's not even that remote, the only way he would've gotten lost is if he went in circles and never took note of the direction of the sun. He literally could've picked any direction and found a road/river or the shoreline.
I don’t feel bad for people who put themselves in their own peril and require others to rescue them.

I know someone with albinism, and their eyes quiver, their hair is extremely light, and their facial tanning is splotchy. I don't know the answer, but I can suspect he is at least partially albino.

A few beers alone at home... and i was off on foot thru the wilderness to check out a new landscape job halfway across the state. Ran out of whiskey on day 3 , no water, drank my own urine and lived mostly on mountain lion cubs and rattlesnake eggs. Arrived at job interview 10 years later having married a bear and started a family along the way. No more beersies for jono the landscaper😅
No food, no light, no fire making tools, no survival prep. Next time don't get off the sidewalk.

I do Ed. I carry a Leatherman and it has scissors in it. They are great for what they can do. I've used them a couple times.
