Scrapping it feels like a tragedy but there's also a lot SLK owners in need of parts. There could be someone who has one with a working roof but a ton of mechanical problems or body damage. You never know. But if the roof is easily fixable, then definetly keep it going!
That's a fun little Mercedes! It looks really nice! It can get out of its own way, for sure. No check engine lights. If you could get the top to function correctly and fix the glove box, I bet you could flip it for a few more bucks. Nice pick up Randy!

I suspect the roof problem is from the sensor on the right side latch of the trunk partition. If the sensor thinks the partition is not closed properly it will not let the roof operate. Could be a quick fix
Hi Randy. Those are not cameras monitoring you in the SLK, those are just lights. Open the door at night and take a look. The Driver Assist is monitoring your steering wheel movement and other things to decide if you might be drowsy.
NO NO NO, how could you even think of letting that fun little buggy get scrapped?! I can see if it was all banged up and had serious issues but it’s in beautiful shape. I’d be interested in watching you try to fix the top and see how much you could get for it then. Maybe put it on Bring a Trailer instead of Copart.

He recently bought a Bentley that I don’t think he wants to scrap. I currently own a 2011 550 SL and the convertible top is the most expensive item to fix if it breaks. I would like you to try to fix the top on the SLK. Your SLK is very desirable color with a beautiful interior. It would be very popular in Naples Florida where I live. In fact, I will definitely bid on the car if you ultimately send it to Copart. I would be willing to pay $1K over what JR would offer to NOT see it scrapped.

Don't scrap. It's worth more than 10 k. Fix roof and I'm sure someone would love to buy it and get many years of joy out of it. They were made for the autobond. Have a vw cc 2.0 turbo and it only starts to get going at 70 miles an hour great car for the highway.

It is your property and you should do what you want with it. The logic may not make sense, but it is RUclips content. I'm just glad they're not scrapping me for body parts. I’m 50/50 on it. If the engine and or transmission was bad, I’d be all for scrapping it. But at the same time it would be cool to see it disassembled and parted out.
Had a 2015 GLA 250 4Matic Edition 1 for 2 years. Beautiful car inside and out. Fun to drive and quick too. Hated how the radio worked and expensive to service. Had 3 speed sensors go out and a sunroof that stopped working. After a small front end collision the collision avoidance system would just throw an error and stop working multiple times. Had to go to Mercedes and get it recalibrated so much that we just sold it to Carmax.
Also you have to use use the special Mercedes fluid but I suspect it isn't the fluid but is a limit switch that needs to be replaced or adjusted. You should be to fix the top in a few hours just take you time and check all the switches. Check the manual and see how to manually put the top down and give it a shot.

I’ve had the SLK for 3 years it’s a very cool car very economical I bought it at 41k miles it’s now of 50k miles it’s an amazing car it’s my weekend car all I’ve done on it is oil change and brake pad
I can’t believe it took most of third gear just hit 60 mile an hour. It’s kind of slow man, but it does look nice. The handling is where it’s at with that car.

I bet that the instructions on the aftermarket radio are in the glove box. Get that fixed too Randy, I think you'd make a profit on this one if you got the convertible roof working again and the glove box unstuck!! I bet you could put it in an auction and make 2-4 K on it.

I would keep it and fix the convertible top. Its probably one of the hydraulic cylinders leaking or one of the lines in the top. Not hard just time consuming

That radio is Mercedes own factory device. Those cables are connect usb-stick or other device. Cables connect to Mercedes MMU connector.
