    What's up guys, in this video I replace old wood windows with United window and door vinyl replacement window from Lowe's.
    The United window is vinyl, double hung and come with 10 year warranty. The sashes tilt for easy clean up and comes with 2 trim pieces.
    I typically install the Pella 150 series windows ( • Pella- How to install ... ), but they were out of stock and I had to get a job done, so I opted for the United Window Pro series, which is equal in grade to the Pella 150.
    The United Window felt very similar to the Pella 150 in weight and quality. There were two main differences between the two and I point that out in the video.
    As far as installation, the process is fairly straight forward. Once you replace one vinyl window, they all install the same. In this installation video I do remove the sashes to make the window lighter to handle.
    The United window comes with the hardware necessary to install and two trim pieces meant to be used on the bottom or/and the top if necessary.
    I hope you find this video helpful for your project, and as always leave me a comment , if you have any questions.

    Hello,
    This is straight up one of the ONLY videos I've found that replaces a window similar to the one I have (wood sash, aluminum track) with a new vinyl one.
    Very informative, thank you!

    At the end of the video you show what the screws on the outside frame, one on each side halfway up, what they are used for! Thank you, nobody else explains that. I could not find that on the Pella site, I also went back to Lowes and the assistant there at the time didn't know. Thanks

    I just got new windows, my old ones were just like this, they pulled out the stops on all the windows, which were in good shape. they put in the replacement ones window, didnt use any flashing, i asked him if i should get it, he said no. Then they didnt use any adhesive to the inside, i asked about that he said, they caulk outside of it. They put foam on sides, then they made some wooden trim to frame it in the outside, then, they caulked all around the trim. This was a contractor. I do have weep holes, so i hope i dont have issues…

      I did paint all my sills before they put in new windowd to protect them from moisture.

      Good on you for doing that. Co tractors do the minimum. Caulk will dry over time. In my view, what is the harm in putting down flashing tape? It’s also recommended. Don’t worry, chances are you will be ok, it’s just an added precaution.

    All of the questions I've had concerning replacement windows were answered here in this very short time!!! Thank you!!! But my windows are .25 inch smaller than the opening! Is this, OK? Everything is square

    You wanna talk about a window replacement mess. My parents decided to replace the windows in their house. These windows had storm windows also and the had the aluminum frames and they had no brick moulding on the exterior, why I don’t know but every house in the neighborhood that is brick was built the same way. So they hire a company and a guy comes out and takes measurements. I believe it took a couple months to have them made. Well the windows are ready and a contractor shows up with a boat load of windows. So the crew pulls out the first window located in the living room and it’s a double window. So it gets pulled and they go to install the replacement and it doesn’t fit! They go and get another double window and it doesn’t fit either. The lead guy goes and measures all the windows and goes out to the replacements that he has and not a single window will work! The guys were able to get the living room window temporary installed and makes the call to the shop and relays the news. The next day another guy shows up and retakes all the window measurements and apologized to my parents and told them he would put a rush order in for the new ones. They did get all the windows replaced on the second go around. This company lost their butts on that job which was around &
    $25K!!!

      So typical of window companies! They sub everything out and the profit margin is ridiculous. Glad your parents got their windows!

    Great video! This gives me the confidence to try window replacement in my house. Wondering if after your experience with both brands, next time would you choose the Pella or United if they are both available? Pella seems to be about 25% more expensive from what I’m seeing, worth the premium in your opinion?

    • @TrueGritDevelopment
      @TrueGritDevelopment  11 дней назад +1

      Thank you. Very gd question. They are comparable, maybe the Pella edges the United, if I had to choose. I felt the Pella were a bit more sturdy. If you’re on a budget, you are fine with the United. Hope this helps.

      Thank u. Why did you not remove the pella windows like u did with the united when u installed it.

    • @TrueGritDevelopment
      @TrueGritDevelopment  5 дней назад +1

      You mean the sashes? Either way is fine. Removing the sashes makes the window lighter, but you have to pay close attention to ensure it’s square and sashes operate smoothly. I’ve also been dealing with back problems, so these days I try to work around heavier loads.

    So, double hung windows means that both window sections can move up or down independently? (Or slide, if they’re Sliders?) thanks for showing us!

    The window in my study was installed poorly by a previous owner and looks like they cut the nailing fin off except at the top. So I'm treating it as a replacement window. Perfectly good window just was installed poorly.

    Ive watched a bunch of these types of videos and you're the only one I've seen that doesn't use expanding foam around the window , Is there a reason why?

    • @TrueGritDevelopment
      @TrueGritDevelopment  8 месяцев назад +2

      I do, but don’t cover that in the video. I have another video where I install Pella 150 series windows and I show that there. One tip when using foam is to go lite, so the window has room to expand in the Summer. You may also use backer board or bat foam insulation.

    Can you do a video on how to wrap the outside frame in aluminum?

    • @TrueGritDevelopment
      @TrueGritDevelopment  4 месяца назад

      Unfortunately I do not do that work. You will need a breaker tool to bend aluminum. You can rent the tool BTW. It’s not difficult, but requires precise measuring and basic understanding of angled cuts and tucking. Nowadays, many contractors and swapping with pvc or Azek trim for exterior. Thanks for watching.

    Is cutting a new hole in a old house considered new construction window?

    • @TrueGritDevelopment
      @TrueGritDevelopment  3 месяца назад

      If there is no siding. The new construction window comes with a nail flange that goes against the framing. See my other window replacement window, Pella 150 series from Lowe’s. I discuss the new construction window. Thanks for watching 👊🏼
