- How an airline in Europe paid us €500 to fly from Paris to Slovakia.
We are leaving France to start our road trip through Eastern Europe but before we get to Slovakia we may have had some hiccups with our airline over booking our flight, cancelling our seat and how they gave us money for the complications!

Ahhh - have you guys ever had a nightmare flight experience? Would love to hear your stories below!
Flying The Nest I love u both so much it's so fun to see how this channel has grown!
Was traveling to Europe with a group and then security stopped me to search my bags etc. My ticket was in the bin where I put my belongings and when he gave me my stuff back my ticket wasn't there anymore. He said he didn't see it and honestly I dont know why he would take it but but I'm pretty sure he did. So I managed to get another ticket but because I didn't had my first one they couldn't find my suitcase when we arrived so I didn't had any clothes or anything.
When flying home from Florida we were sposed to come home to WI with a connection in Chicago, but we had to leave the flight bc the pilot’s air mask wasn’t working so we got rebooked on another flight that left us in Pennsylvania for the night 🤦🏻♀️ it ended up being a fun time though because we got to explore Philadelphia
Were flying to Sydney from Brisbane with Tiger Air in last December (we from CA), Sydney Airport was shut down due to hail weather. Our flight was delayed for 6 hours, Tiger Air just gave us AUD$12 each, just enough to buy a crossaiant and a latte. We lost almost a day, ended up just had 36 hours to explore Sydney with bad weather. 😫😁😆
I’m from northern Virginia but was on a flight from Baltimore, MD to Los Angeles. our first flight was supposed to be at 7pm and got delayed all the way til 12 am, when they cancelled it. So we had to stay in a hotel because we were 4 hours from home. They put us on a flight the next day at 5pm with 1 stop. The next day we went back to the airport and waited there for a couple hours because we had to check out from the hotel. Then our flight to our first stop got delayed for 3 hours, which meant we wouldn’t make our connecting flight. We waited in line for 2 hours on the phone and at the front desk. They randomly started calling names of people (it was the ppl whose flight was cancelled yesterday and are now missing another flight) they called our name and took us 3 hours in a van back to the airport that’s right by our house. That flight got delayed til 1am and we finally arrived in LAX 2 days later :)
How can you work in one of Europe’s busiest airports without speaking English?
I know I was surprised too
Because it is in Paris, you will not get a French speaking check in clerk in Melbourne Australia!
brett coates are you jocking? French people have a problem with English, sorry but that’s true, they’re the worst in Europe...if you go to any other country people will speak English without any problem
Only in France
贾卢卡 not always so but mostly in Northern Europe and in tourist areas of Southern Europe.
The €500 wasn’t given to you voluntarily by the airline company. It is EU law that if your flight is delayed by a certain amount time they have to compensate you for that.
Right on - something that happens ONLY in the EU and NOT in the US/AUS!
that’s what they said BAHAHAH
Vienna and Bratislava are 55 kms apart, the closest distance between two European capitals, barring the Vatican City, which is a sovereign state as well as a capital within Rome. I think the closest two capitals in the world are Brazzaville of the Republic of Congo and Kinshasa of the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire), which are 1.5 kms apart across the Congo River.
The French and their refusing to talk English... I had these moments there too, but at an airport? That's something new :)
France have never been under British colony, so they don't need to speak english.
@@danijelamali8467 so you think one needs to live in a british colony not to be so poorly educated?
Well, we don't really expect you to speak French at Heathrow tho..
@@danijelamali8467 One of the dumbest comments I have ever seen. Ever been to Denmark, Holland, etc? We are humans, we need to find a way to communicate to make things easier. So far it is English, which is considered to be an international language, not French.Get used to it. And France.
@@eLFLAMO Because French is not an international language. English is the most spoken language in the world, it's almost like the common language of all humans. People who work at airports should know it at least, because that's one of the most international spaces. wth.
I'm so jealous. I still need to get to Slovakia someday. My great-grandmother immigrated to the US from Slovakia. There's so much good food... Bryndzové halusky (cheesy potato dumplings with bacon), goulash, smazak (fried cheese), pierogi, etc. Have a great trip! Looking forward to the Slovakia videos!
Ah excited to show you around Slovakia than :D
pierogi is in Polish. in Slovak you will write it - pirohy :)
@@sidynqa Thanks! Yeah, I did know that. That's just how we spell it here in the US pretty much everywhere and how I'm used to spelling it :)
Do you know which part of Slovakia was your great-grandmother from?
I'd love to show you my new home country. Originally I'm from the Netherlands but I live already 30 years in beautiful Slovakia.
Tom Leskin feel free to contact me if you want some travel tips or maybe a guide
It's called the Passenger Bill of Rights! Everyone flying to/from the EU should be aware of it. Look it up if you're ever in a situation like this, because odds are you're entitled to compensation.
its the best idea ever!
You would be entitled to compensation in the US and Canada as well.
Yes unfortunately it's common the passengers don't know their rights in EU and don't apply for compansation. Last winter my Finnair flight from Canary Islands was deleyed for 5+ hours, first I thought the reason was the weather conditions (not compensated) but tried my luck anyway and contacted the airline. Result: I could choose between EUR 400 cash or EUR 550 voucher.
mikrokupu Common passengers? Yes. These people are professional travelers. They are frequent flyers. These are not common passengers.
@@afcgeo882 Bad day? ,)
Literally what 12 EUR at Paris CDG will get you: two croissants and a small coffee
If you're lucky.
Thats what you get at all airports but okay
@Albert Tennedy international airport? In the Netherlands are all products expensive af. A sandwich is like 8 euros at Schiphol
You think you can get a croissant and a coffee for €6 at DeGaulle? 😂 😂 😂
@@afcgeo882 pretty sure that coffee was shared 😂
I´m from slovakia and i like your videos about our country
Once my flight was cancelled I was booked in to another flight and I have given a food voucher too . But €500 is good 😜😜 you can treat yourself
€500 isn't just good it's f*****g fantastic
It is required, EU law
I am so glad you finally came to my home country :) you should also visit Kosice, the second largest city, Cicmany with their preserved folk architecture, if you are into nature and hiking, go to Slovensky raj (national park), and do not miss out one of the ice caves...I wish you a great time in Slovakia! :)
you guys are so calm in a crisis, very glad you made it 🥰
baffled at how it’s 2019 and people working in the service industry can’t speak English but I’m so Glad you guys managed to manage this so calmly !!
Compensation is really good in Europe if you are seriously delayed or bumped off your flight. It was good you were paid up front without having to apply. I managed to get €600 compensation from LOT Polish Airlines last year, but it took three months of patient waiting. Great video.
Planes, Trains, Everything. Not in every corner or airline in europe, though. Recently, I was one of the many passengers who got stranded at the airport in Schiphol due to flight cancellations caused by insufficient fuel, and they did not yet give us compensation, and when we were at the airport we only received a meal voucher of 10€. You can’t eat anything decent at the airport with just that! In my case I called my travel agency and rescheduled the flight and I’m still waiting for compensation from KLM or the airport. So, it really depends on the airline, airport, etc.
Great video, wishing you safe travels and have fun!
What a crazy day!!! Anyway, I'm excited for your trip! Have fuun ❣
your vlogs look so magical
ouuuuu that's so awesome guys! hope you treat yourself!!

Eagerly waiting for your videos
I realised you an hour ago with Turkey vlogs and I want to say you are amazing. Good job guys 👏👍👍
Ahh thank you so so much :D
wooow can't wait for the next episode, 😉 love you guys
I love compensation! I was delayed 9 hours in Spain and got €400 euros and 2 €10 food vouchers!
so glad you made a profit on the trip you were very lucky with all the transport troubles never mind you made it stay safe
Whilst in Bratislava, there is an animal shelter ‘freedom for animals’ where you can walk a dog each with staff around a big park nearby. Was the highlight of my trip!
So nice to see people appreciating Slovakia and giving it some good publicity!!! Food wise, I would recommend, Brinzove halusky, gulas, zemiakove pirohy, and makove sulance!!! Enjoy your trip and cant wait to see more videos from slovakia!!!
Ah you Guys are stellar and make travel look so POSSIBLE on even the most challenging of travel days! Our family loves watching your adventures 💗😄💗
it is possible :D :D
Make sure you try Bryndzove Halusky, which is little potato dumplings swimming in goat cheese with bacon bits on top. Soooo good. We tried it at a little restaurant in a grotto near the castle called Modra Hviezda which was really nice and cool inside. Also, the local Slovakian cola, Kofola, is pretty tasty too.
so exciting !
Oh the Joy's of travel, but it makes the trip more memorable. Enjoy Slovakia.. Travel Safe..
plus we got there safe & sound in the end :)
it’s so incredible and inspirational how you have turned your passion into a business and career! xx
Naw thank you so much :D
One of the most sweetest couples
i envy you guy's happy journey~!!😘 take care and enjoy in Slovakia.💕
Thank you so much! So excited to share a brand new country with you!
You two always have the right attitude. When a situation arises that you are powerless over you might as well stay calm and see what happens. So glad that you were compensated for your delay. Just proves that good things do happen to good people! Enjoy your time in a new country. As always, take care and God Bless both of you!♥️🏞
Naw we were so lucky it all worked out :D
😍😍😍 I've been waiting for this for so long! Finally in my country! You should definitely check the mountain High Tatras, you can also visit Košice- it's on the east, Banská Bystrica with it's uprising monument and you should also visit at least one of our medieval cattles! When it comes to food- halušky (halushky) it's our traditional dish, try our cheese, cakes, BEER and homemade alcohol (52%). I would be happy to help you if you needed anything. 😘😘
seeing you here in Slovakia is sooooo CRAZY! :D
AWESOME stuff. :-)
Omg I use to live in Vienna and I use to fly into Slovakia because the flights were so cheap. So funny it was the other way around for you guys!
Stay safe guys!
Thank you :D
i realy like that you travel trough slovakia and not only stayed in bratislava a knew that one day you will come xi enjoy
i remember the vending machines from your solvenia episode. That was my first episode watching you gyt and been hooked ever snice. Gald your finally doing Solvakia.
Flying from Tehran (Iran) to London, the captain got food poisoning so we had to wait for the next flight to get in, get some rest to be able to fly us to London, because of the delay we missed our connection to US and had to spend a night in London ( which was super fun) but then when we arrived to US we didn't have any luggage and we arrived to Huston instead of LA, so I actually got detained and questioned for 3 hours because of the circumstances surrounding the situation (that's what they told me ...!). So after missing that connection also, we finally got home 4 days after we originally went to the airport in Tehran, our luggage didn't make it back until the week after! We did get some vouchers like you guys but my boss didn't care so much about the story and was super mad
My nightmare travel experience was when I was 16 and traveling from Pennsylvania in the U.S back to California from visiting my grandma. I knew I had time to kill and had brought a book with me to read. After a while, I looked up from my book and realized everyone was gone. I was horrified. I was able to call my grandma from the airline who booked another flight for me but wouldn't leave for a few hours. I was afraid to read my book after that. This flight would take me to Los Angeles instead of the airport closer to home. So I get to L.A where its now late and dark and crowded and being by myself was scary and I couldn't find the airline to catch the next plane. I'm walking around this crowded airport with tears running down my face so afraid I would miss my next flight too. I asked someone where I needed to go where they directed me to a completely different building (at least I think it was) but al I knew was I had to leave the airport and walk down this crowded busy street to this other building and finally found the airline..WHEW and made my flight on time. Every time I've gone back to see my grandma (she is now 96!) she brings up the time I missed my flight when I was 16 because of a dumb book I was reading.
Great both of u 👍🏻 . Love from India 😊
I felt stressed out just looking at what you guys been through 😣 but glad you made it safe💁🙌 ❤
luckily it was all worth it in the end ;)
oof what a series of flight issue all at once! Sorry you had to deal with such a nightmare :O Really appreciate the vlog so we all know what to do!
Hello from a South African living in Singapore 😊
Can't wait to see Bratislava!
I wish your travel posts were numbered
I would like to see each one in order but I am sort of guessing at this point.
Love your posts, watched all of the van builds and travels in Australia and then your trip to Canada and Hunters 2nd Christmas in Utah. Now I am going back and watching your earlier travel destinations.
Here's to cash rewards when traveling and your future family. 💗💗💗
Devin Castle is pretty nice near Bratislava, although I may be biased because of the name. You can see two rivers meeting and Austrian farmlands across the river.
You so calm
And also, if you had time, there is a newly renovated castle Galicia Nueva nearby my hometown. It's a hotel with a restaurant, wellness, church, the rooms and the whole place is made in the medieval style. It's an amazing experience!
Whatever happen, happens for a reason!! Lucky u guys.
Jess!?! Where is your backpack from, I need this for my travels haha! Also obsessed with your videos and content, thanks for always teaching us and taking us on the ride with you.
This video is so amazing
Naw thank you so so much!
Are you kidding me? Im watching your channel for years and you are finally comming to my country. I would love to show you beauty of Slovakia! I hope you will enjoy it and in case of any need Im here for you guys :)

Flying The Nest hey guys, I’m waiting for you to come to the Baltics - Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia (my country)!!
Áno, áno, áno!!! Konečne! (I'm probably going to scream)
Same thing happened to me and my partner but ours was on our annual holiday trip from London to Tenerife! My partner had to fly to Stockholm from London and then travel to Tenerife 2 days late!! It was an absolute nightmare! And to make things worse it wasn’t even our fault that we were the last to check in as their app wasn’t working for the online check-in and EasyJet told us that it would be no problem. Glad you guys managed to get a flight later the same day.
First 10 comments ;)
Thanks a lot for sharing your adventures! You guys are really awesome. You've been such an inspiration to us to start our own travelling channel. We really enjoy watching your videos.
Very true ;) Thanks so much you guys. It would be really cool if we could meet up some day for a beer.
naw thanks so much guys!
I just love your videos. ❤Wish I could travel soon with my husband. 🛩🌍
Anyway, I only experienced an hour flight delay when I went to Thailand. So it wasn't bad really 😅
Enjoy your travels 👏
Hey! You two are the best👍😁
naw :D
I Love your videos ♥️✈️ you should visit Prague too 🇨🇿
You guys are so lucky we have only ever been upgraded to 1st class once with British airways was amazing though 👍🏴👍
enjoy our small country :) hope you will love it :)
Score!!! Yes, see it all paid off. Even taking the train instead of a uber. But there's a lesson here... stay calm in the storm and keep the faith :)
Nice little transit episode.
Best, James and Kim
So happy it all worked out in the end haha!
Nice video
Guys you should definitely visit Kosice! 😘
That's so cool, my lucky babies
nawww :)
If you think that's strange to have to pick up and recheck luggages you should transit between international flights in the USA . You will have fun !
seriously! Miami is the worst one of all!
Agreed it's annoying. Basically if you land in the USA, you have to enter the USA, clear immigration etc. Doesn't matter if you're continuing to another country - no such thing as international transit.
But in the case of this video, their flight was equivalent to a domestic flight. This makes it really weird to me that they had to collect their bags and check in again.
haha this is so funny ! I need to go to Vienna and It's cheaper for me to fly to Bratislava and then take the train to Vienna ( coming from Belgium) hope you still had a wonderful trip ! :D
When we were flying back from NYC through Rome to Budapest and we missed our connection because Alitalia was late from NYC they offered us another flight the next day and a room for one night, but we had to get back to work and were super tired so I just booked another flight with another airline on that day and later Alitalia gave us nothing for compensation. Said that the NYC-Rome flight was late because of weather conditions. Still the best trip yet but traveling back to home sucked 😕
Where‘s your backpack from? It looks so handy for travelling. Btw really interesting video!
that would be so stressful but awesome that you got paid
Oh nooo i am from Austria and you should have made a stop in Vienna it’s really beautiful here
How I wish that I have travel mate like this couple.
Hi :-D the food in the automat at the station is our Slovakian traditional cheesee from sheep milk :-)
Wow. Haha I guess it was worth the stress and sweat then 😅 Glad they compensated you and that you finally made it to Slovakia 😊
Yes was so worth it in the end :D and still got there safe and sound :)
Most importantly :)
I had to laught, because when I were with my family in Bratislava, we also stayed there with airbnb and had the same problem opening door😂😂
If in Bratislava, try some original Slovak food at Slovak Hause restaurant and keep an eye out on the footpaths for some interesting sculptures.
hi guys!I could ´t believe it.I am from slovakia!!!!welcome in my country!
That's Europe, especially the EU you have to thank ;-)
Enjoy your trip and thanks for the nice video!
I'm going to miss all that compensation money after Brexit
@@noahbowie5985 good luck with that lol, french people are watching you 😂
@@FoufouBe you don't need to tell me what I already know

1) If your flight is within the EU and is operated either by an EU or a non-EU airline
2) If your flight arrives in the EU from outside the EU and is operated by an EU airline
3) If your flight departs from the EU to a non-EU country operated by an EU or a non-EU airline"

@@JustSitAndLaugh fantastic apart from I fly BA from Heathrow probably 95% of the time. So while I do fly to Europe I do more long haul trips so EU compensation will be lost after Brexit. I'll just hope for bad delays flying literally anywhere else.

Hello, I loved this video. Even tho I’m sorry you got sooo delayed! I would like to copy your idea of taking a bus to Bratislava from the Vienna airport! Which company did you use and did you have to make an online reservation? Thanks! Always great content guys!
Ughhhhh yeah I remember the nightmare that is public transit to and from paris airport. There were so many delays on the train where we just full stopped for 30 min in the sweltering heat. It was terrible and so uncomfortable. We were 2 hours later than expected. Next time we came we just took a freaking uber and saved ourselves the trouble
I found the best restaurant in Bratislava's centre to be the Gremium restaurant. Good food and service!
Bratislava!☺❤ hope you enjoyed this charming little capital!
Keep it up
Wow, I never actually knew how over booking flights works. What a good deal! I would rather get my flight bumped everytime to get a little pay out! So good!
Flight of the Fox Overbooking used to be a fairly common thing, but it’s becoming less and less frequent.
I can usually score a voucher and an upgrade when it happens.
