This song was alot of fun to make especially as I got to learn a new language to make the video!😅 This is the second entry in the Fantasy Playlist, the first being "Toss A Coin To Your Witcher". The *next* one will harken back to video games and specifically one of the most re-released fantasy games I'm aware of. For those curious, I used DwarrowScholar to pick up the language and make the translations:
    www.dwarrowscholar.com/library.html
Tragically I had neither the time nor energy to make a *proper* translation as the Dwarvish doesn't rhyme, but the translation is at least accurate in meaning!
As always I am very thankful for my Patreon supporters and I am stoked to have another Patreon! If you also want to contribute to keeping this channel going, please consider joining here:

I first learned of Tolkien my first year in college. A friend had gifted me with a brown paper sack ( circa 1967) filled with paper back books. ALL of Tolkiens Lord of the Rings were in that sack, missing only The Hobbit. I waited until I could find the book before reading the others. After the Hobbit, I didn't read anything else until I completed the other three books. Over the years I read those books several times. In my third year of marriage I pulled the books from the book case and set them on my nightstand, to once again read them with no other books coming between. Tolkiens books were of the type to really get into. Literally! I dreamed certain passages, and was really involved in travelling, discovering new 'everything', meeting the Elves, Dwarves, and even Tom Bombadil. LOL But one night my friends and I were being chased by something really bad. It's been more than 50 years, so I don't recall, but it was probably the spiders. Yech!!! The thing is, I woke my husband, who usually thought my dreams were funny. But after that he suggested I read in the safety of the living room. Bedtime reading was no longer looked on as being 'cute'. I didn't think change of rooms would change my dreams. But it did. Sometimes I fall asleep on the couch after reading one of those treasured books, and I still travel the road with my Hobbit friends. Thanks for sharing this song. I think I'm ready to read those books again. Uh, but my daughter took them. LOL. She and my grandsons are Tolkien fans, too.

Excellent! I don't consider myself a guitar person, rarely enjoying any guitar music, much less in a folk sort of style like you played, but despite that this alone is the best version of the Song of Durin I have ever heard. It's so personal and moving, like if Gimli himself was singing it before my ears. Clamavi De Profundis' version is still excellent, mind you, but it's too composed and has too many people singing it for the context in which the song appears in the books. Maybe it's a case of excitement hearing a new take on one of my favourite Tolkien songs, but maybe this take just fits better.
Also props to you figuring out the Khuzdul for the song, you went above and beyond for the subtitles, haha!
Update: no it's not just the novelty of a new cover. Time has no hold on Durin, nor this version. Again, it's just so direct and personal - a solo singer suffices for this song greater than a choir. After all, it was only Gimli singing out into the darkness of Khazad-dûm.

Clamavi De Profundis and Tolkien would be proud. As a fan and nerd of Tolkien's world of Arda, I appreciate this a lot.

If you change the name Durin to Adam and maybe a few other parts it’s like a song about Adam in the Bible.

In some parts I noticed that you sang better than clamavi team . Don't be sad because your views are low because clamavi's 33 million views are not too high, so the follow-up versions of the others will also be much worse in terms of views.
