This escape works well because it's pretty unusual and therefore unexpected. It's not clever and fancy - just effective. Used it for the first time [after seeing it here and drilling it just a few times ] against a clever 'knee on stomach man' and it went like dream . Perfect !
I love Richie nodding and being totally engaged in your presentation of the first escape rather than just being a passive assistant like most other instructional videos. Great techniques, thank you!
Tonight I just come back here to thank you Stephen and Ritchie for this video. In today's BJJ class sparing I used Ritchie's technique(I am 44yrs old and only into BJJ 8 months and with zero martial art background), I was able to sweep a big muscular guy put a knee on belly on me. I am a small guy only 5'4'', 145, the big guy is 200 pound and full of muscle. All I remember's Ritchie's technique at the moment is just - keep walking - circling to him, that's all I did so probably it only Ritch's 35% technique, I already put the guy out of balance, seeing him falling to my other side, I grab his pant of his posting leg, threw him over, flip myself and followed by a short double leg took him down - this part is from Stephen, ha....amazing....even without a single drill on this !
Thanks for the tips at the beginning of what NOT to do, and why. Also thanks for the tips on making the single leg more effective at about 2:25, "pulling low and pushing high."
Stephen, we tried this in MMA with ground n pound from the top athlete and your first escape worked very well. It had to been done immediately, but it worked great. Obviously if you eat a punch it makes everything more difficult, so you have to move. Great video as usual!
sir! I made knee on belly escapes many times.. we can also switch to deep half guard and then roll the opponent directly to the back mount to attack their back... sir pls don't get me wrong, I have just shared my experience with you.. all the way I like all your videos and instructions and I do really follow you... thank you :-)
Sir I m very glad that u replied.. thank u a lot.. I always wanted to meet u and learn a lot of things ... I have been following u since many days and stored a lot of ur videos :-)
Definitely gonna add this... thanks fellas... oh, on that second escape, would it be too much to try and secure the hand they would post with (Left hand on knee, right hand grabs sleeve)?
HECTOR ARTURO they usually have no weight on it and its close enough to push into half guard. It depends on their exact position but ive always been able to at least make them take the knee off of me if not get half guard. You just take your far hand and reach for the ankle of the knee thats on you. Try it some time and youll notice how often it works
Greg Huffman I understand you could push the knee, but to put it in your guard I suppose you need to do something more, because if you only push, the knee would go to the ground out of your guard, right?
Maybe I'll do my own video on it sometime. I just do it out of habit so I don't know if I explain it in the best terms. You don't push the knee, you grab the ankle of the leg that is on you. It'll usually be close to your legs anyway, so all it takes is a small movement to put it in your half guard. If the person adjusts quickly, they will still move the knee off of your body and thus you no longer have a knee sucking out your air.
i like the hip shovel, but it seems like its working because there's space between the guy's calf and thigh 3:20, most times their thigh is on their calf making this move impossible without that room
Can you grab the bottom of that knee-on-belly foot and elevate it to destroy the base while you make the turn in to take the waist? I noticed it's really close to the outside hand and elevating the foot high up stops the opponent remounting.
Escape number 1 worked for me 99 times out of 100. The only time i got destroyed was against the strongest brown belt in my class, i was totally pinned and unable to turn enought to apply pressure with my elbow with the proper angle. Couldn't do anything, i had to wait for him to do something :S I'll try escape number 2 but i don't know how that works when the opponent actively keep position, grab pants, etc
What if Stephen, while in knee on belly, sits back on his heel, and doesn’t allow space for the knee to be brought through for the sweep? I always sit back on my heel when I’m putting someone in knee on belly.
For the second escape, will this work if your opponent posts with their arm? I was drilling this earlier and ran into some trouble when their hand didn't stay on my hip and they instead used it to prevent the sweep
So i ended up on this video, cuz i was looking for way to escape, if someone got both their knees on top of my shoulders, its happened to me and i felt like i couldnt do anything untill they let me up, does anyone have any kind of advice?
Felipe Balbi I don't see any way the opponent can threaten the kimura while he's belly down and driving the single-leg. Maybe after pushing the knee off with the elbow but that's why you shoot in for the underhook right away.
I dont know about a kimura grip but you can shoulder lock the guy that has the single leg. I know this is possible because we literally just learned it.
“...maybe if you were super strong, or young, or better looking...” 😂😂😂😂😂 gets me every effin time!!! Thanks so much, guys!!!!
Just started watching and had to pause to give you a virtual high five on your ST:TNG shirt! Love it!!

"super strong or young or better looking..." the nemesis of all of us old BJJers! haha!
the simplest stuff you never think of 😂
Both were good, really liked the second one.
I need that Next Gen rash guard in my life!
These are elegant moves.

IRFAN AL-HADEE that works too!! There are lots of effective escapes
Sir I m very glad that u replied.. thank u a lot.. I always wanted to meet u and learn a lot of things ... I have been following u since many days and stored a lot of ur videos :-)
Very good scape! Thanks guys.
Thank you for sharing your information guys!
Lol the stronger younger it better looking part really got me
On richies move, there looks to be a saddle entry or even truck from there. Can you guys try it out? Great moves! Thanks !
Definitely gonna add this... thanks fellas... oh, on that second escape, would it be too much to try and secure the hand they would post with (Left hand on knee, right hand grabs sleeve)?
What about pushing the ankle (of the knee that's on you) into half-guard? That's the escape that I learned and it's been very successful.
Greg Huffman what do you use to do that? your hand?... the ankle is in the ground... how can you do that?
HECTOR ARTURO they usually have no weight on it and its close enough to push into half guard. Greg Huffman you grab the ankle and push it in what direction?
Great stuff guys, thank you!!
This was so helpful, thanks!!
That 2nd uki-gatame escape was good.
great videos, thank you!
*What if my opponent doesn't stay still?*
if it bleeds you can kill it
@@sawronxd What if he has a sharpened stick?
You break his ego in 2 with his own sharpened stick. While he says that aikido beats bjj
Devil's Advocate it’s like anything else, timing and execution. Gotta drill it until it’s a reflex.
itchykami Monty python?
Stephan's technique is faster to learn but the other guy's technique could give a better position.
i like the hip shovel, but it seems like its working because there's space between the guy's calf and thigh 3:20, most times their thigh is on their calf making this move impossible without that room
stephans vids been really good to me..i have some techs from him

Tell us more about your hip!!!

Are these Starfleet approved techniques?
good stuff
Nice vid...Capt. Kirk

i'm a white belt and i get that - knee mount - done on me all the time. this'll help me get out. but wait, does he have a star trek undershirt?
Okay, I'm no trecky or anything but that rash guard really makes you look like jl picard
So i ended up on this video, cuz i was looking for way to escape, if someone got both their knees on top of my shoulders, its happened to me and i felt like i couldnt do anything untill they let me up, does anyone have any kind of advice?
What about using a reverse heelhook as a counter/escape?
I got to try this. I hate the knee mount lol
Thank you >> شكرا
I look up to you
I feel like Stephens way have more flow, I 100% try both.
not working for me if guy have knee on CHEST!
Seus videos sao muitos bons , pema que não é traduzido pra português, pois sou brasileiro. Gostaria que fosse trasuzido.
How dumb do I feel right now!!!
Stephan Kesting how do I escape if the knee is in the sternum?
Tap
Stephen, at 1:49, aren't you in danger of a kimura grip on the far arm?
Felipe Balbi I don't see any way the opponent can threaten the kimura while he's belly down and driving the single-leg. Maybe after pushing the knee off with the elbow but that's why you shoot in for the underhook right away.
Felipe Balbi kimura grips on inside single allows the guy on bottom to take the back, it's important to wizzar
I dont know about a kimura grip but you can shoulder lock the guy that has the single leg. I know this is possible because we literally just learned it.
What about defending against punches?
Nice
😱 3:08 did he just say he can only do it on one side??
4:14 nice
3:08 does he really say he can do it only on one side?
Is he Captain Pickard?

You mean knee on belly...

Knee mount! 🤔🤔
👍
Well.,Picard didn't use *tHat aGainst any 'Breen', my total *Recall.!?! Lol & *BJJ too 🙋
If your opponent is a 6 year old girl maybe these techniques using elbow to knee and shrimping will work.
Nice video, and no socialist rhetoric!
Thanx
americansensei I suppose you mean to "social" instead of "socialist".
