Part of the Minnesota Iron Range. The city of Hibbing was also moved when they found good ore under it. Greyhound bus lines started there as transport for the miners. The first three generations of my family worked the mines there. Alot of Europeans moved there around WW1 as there were jobs to be had in the pre-war buildup and it was safer than their situation where they were. In WW2 both my gramps worked the mines instead of going off to war, as steel was a pretty important commodity.
@@chrismorrison9140 👍🏼 as my family worked the Rails hauling all your guys' payload (myself included working the rail gang a few summers) good ole Mother Missabe 🫡 Thanks for the added lesson, was hoping you'd appear 😊
@@farawayfarm2520 The Fourth itself to be exact; 👍🏼 missed getting back to catch the sunrise although it would have been grand before the storms Sunday morning, just a little windy.
Soudan Underground Mine State Park is up the road a ways from there. They’ll take you hundreds of feet below, and show how Minnesota iron ore was originally mined. Cool place.
@@gonepostal9101 been over 25 years since i've been down in the Soudan but once they get the water out (currently flooded) can't wait to get back myself 👍🏼
What an awesome location that you stumbled on and captured so beautifully! Can't wait to go there and do some flying, not much to crash into there ;) And very cool theme👍👍
@@schrodingersgat4344 holy my gosh... i've held Taconite pellets, slug them in sling shots, tossed them off rails, thrown them at yard signs for over 40 years and nice connected Taco in there... lol... 😆
😜 I know it took me 44 years and a comment chain to point that out to me 😊 - I should probably describe what Taconite is, in the description, good point 👍🏻

Awesome video. Big old mine.
You must have gotten the video over the 4th of July weekend. The drilled out pattern you showed at the end blasted Monday.

There has been more stories told of the ore freighters and their unloading etc than stories of these mines

I disagree.
Every nite is Taconite.
