  • In this video we show the fault and repair of a Saab 93 where the remote key has failed entirely, leaving the vehicle unable to start.
    The error in particular is "Key not accepted. Contact Service" which is displayed on the overhead display.
    The fault on this occasion is the car key. We replace these on a mobile and workshop basis.
    This affects vehicles:
    Saab 9-3
    Saab 9-4
    Saab 9-5

    In the first comment, OGS Mechanics finishes by writing, "Feel free to ask if you need help." The remainder of the comments section has lots of people asking questions, but no answer from OGS.

    I kept getting the same message on occasions plus steering lock malfunction I replaced the ignition switch module and no more problems ism £39 and about 40 minutes work if the CIM goes bad it stays bad it does produce intermittent faults but the contacts in the ISM get dirty and produce the faults you describe

    On Saab 9-3 there three common faults for a non start issue. We're detailing here the case where problem is the key and without another working key only way to create a new one is by reading the CIM module eeprom and performing the job on the bench. If there is a key available procedure can be carried out by OBD using Tech2 or other diagnostic machines. Another common issue on Saab 9-3 for non starting is the actual CIM unit failing. On this situation CIM (Central Integrated Module) needs to be programmed using TECH2 or if a used CIM is used eeprom can be transferred from old unit quite easily. Third situation for no start is actually ignition switch (place you insert the key) that is suffering from cracks on the main board. In this situation there is no part replacement required just a re soldering will rectify the issue. Feel free to ask if you need help.

      OGS Mechanics - Car Repair Centre London - Car Garage - Mobile Mechanics Hi.
      I am searching for solution and found your comment. I have no start with saab 93 year 2006 . When i put the key in the steering lock does nothing, the same when i put the key out of ignition switch. Steering lock stay unlocked. The key turns but doesn't start. I run starter from relay and is okay. The only code i read from the cim module is steering angle sensor problem. What can i do to start, please help...

    Hello, my 2003 9-3 is having this exact problem. I'm wondering what your pricing is? I'm from the states and dealer prices are ridiculous so I was thinking about sending it in, if that's something that you do.

But it dos not work the key do not moving inside the switch .( cause not the same size they did not make it perfect !! ) than i go to the used car shop to bay an old key one looks good key and try to check it (cause i thought could be the cover key from Ebay is not the same size ) ( i just need the cover from the old used key, than i put all the parts from my old key to the old used key i bought it from the used car shop it was original key . than i try it and it works perfect !! . so the problem was that cover from Ebay not the same size only ! so any one have bad key he can change it with new cover very easy No need to program !! I bought a 2003 Saab 9-3 Aero , has no key, it was at a auction bought as is . How on earth do you get a key for this car?

    • @PeterChomanic
      @PeterChomanic 7 лет назад

      You can buy a key on maptunparts, those are empty keys that can be programmed to your car. If you also require metal part of key, dealer should be able to make one for you depending on VIN number. Still, may be easier to buy a CIM module (around steering column) with a set of 2 keys from junkyard maybe and have that all programmed into the car you have now instead of buying 2 new + new CIM etc.

    • @patroll330

      It's an electronic key, so you know it can fail, as any other electronic devices. But still, you have 2 keys, at least, from the beginning. It would be stupid to buy a car from someone with only 1 key or not to make 2nd copy of a key if you lost one already.

    • @phineas562
      @phineas562 7 лет назад +2

      Seriously....Always have 2 keys. Keep one in the locked glove box which you can unlock with the key insert. If you have one key, make a copy using a Tech2 unit...you buy in ebay for AUD280 GB120. Using a Tech2, you insert the working key, select add key...it will reprogram the original key with a new code and then prompt to add another key...insert the second and you are done. You can have up to 4 keys. With a Tech2, you are able to do so many small maintenance and settings tasks to set the car the way you like...such as opening the roof with a second press of the unlock button...how/when boot locks, whether to lock all doors as you drive away, reset service data after you do your own maintenance, recode replacement stereo, add stereo AUX port to the car.....etc. Normally, dealers will charge anywhere from 30-85 pounds (AUD50 to 150) for EACH time you need them to use a Tech2 on your car, so it quickly pays for itself. The Tech2 comes with the software for your computer (must bit 32 bit operating system....I use an old laptop with Windows10 32 bit) and a USB to serial cable. You also get a copy of the WIS (workshop information system) which is basically the official workshop manual with all diagrams, settings, schematics....a must for those who want to do simple maintenance....or to assist your local mechanic who won't have this info. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY CHANGING THE CIM MODULE AND KEY...they still need to be programmed with a Tech2 anyway!!! Golden rule.....always have 2 keys. If you have one key, buy a Tech2 and make 3 more.
