  • It's easy to be confused about Jeet Kune Do. But the thing is, once we understand the purpose of the whole system all that confusion melts away. Left in its place is a brutal simplicity.
The whole idea is to intercept an attack...to keep ourselves as safe as possible in the event of unavoidable violence. It's not a game. It's not a sport. For that reason, we don't want to waste our time with low percentage shots. We want to get the best bang for our buck and go after the weakest targets of the enemy. Why in blazes would we do anything different? Bruce Lee understood this and stayed focused. JKD's leading leg, therefore, is aimed at the enemy's groin and knee. It's impossible to "harden" those targets and that's exactly why we want to be experts in getting after them.
In this video we show the supremacy of JKD's fistic logic for self-defense and give you some great training tips for developing Bruce Lee type skill. As always, there are no secrets but just smart basics.

I love the oblique kick, especially its so close that you're really stomping down and in on the knee. Oblique kicks and elbows from a solid, controlling clinch are devastating.

Absolutely right there. From a good clinch that kick is a frightening weapon!

Great video as always. I learned the back leg kick from Bruce Tegner's Karate book actually. No one in middle school or high school was ever able to land a kick on me.
I dig the goatee, looks pretty rad.

Cool…one vote for the goatee LOL. But seriously, thanks for watching and the input too. And by the way, I’m so old that I forgot that kick was in Tegner’s book.

@@JKDandWingChun If I'm not very mistaken, Bruce Tegner dabbled in Savate a little bit. I think he wrote a book about it, I could never find it though. For my country only the Karate, Judo and Kung-Fu books were translated. I borrowed the Karate one from an uncle and he let me keep it. His books are good, some dated means of dealing with a knife or gun, but the rest is pretty sound advice.

It’s coming. I’m just waiting on the book to get done right now. As soon as the edits are done (God willing, that’s a couple of weeks), we’ll roll a few videos on it. I’m pretty excited about the material frankly. Hopefully you’ll like it and find it edifying.

The concept of the actively kicking and intercepting lead leg(foot, actually) is not unique to JKD and it's not invented by Bruce Lee ! 😊 It's the essence of Chuo Jiao(Penetrating Feet), a traditional Chinese martial art, which was already popular in the Song Dynasty(960-1279 C.E.)... 😊

No one art can claim any technique or move. That's not what he is talking about. What he is talking about is that these are principles that we illustrate with techniques. Jeet kune do is the art of interception the jeet tek, the straight lead, are cornerstones of jeet kune do. Not that it was created by Bruce lee.

You're talking about what became popularly known as Chinese Judo, and one way of writing it is Shuai Jiao. Why not use that as well instead o trying to appear mysterious and cool. Also, you're the one with the dismissive and holier than thou attitude.
Sources indicate that Bruce Lee took this kick from Wing Chun and Savate. And yes, serious students and practitioners of JKD know that Bruce Lee didn't invent anything. He simply compiled principles from several sources he thought were good for his way of expressing Martial Arts.
