When I saw the Big Boss and other Bruce Lee movies, I was about 12 years old. I was so thrilled, I practiced some techniques on my own. It was really fantastic.
Eye gouging is great, but I think the deadliest is the throat strike. Whether a punch or elbowing the throat while in mount. Should only be used under threat of death or great bodily harm
The eye jab is the longest reach you have where you're not using your feet. The eyes and throat are also the easiest areas of the face that can cause great damage without the need of using a lot of force.
Fun. Boxers like Ali did this a lot with the jab. He'd basically whip the other fighter's eye with his glove. His coach would even shout from the corner, "Snake lick him, champ!"
This is Sonny.. in Jackie’s account.. I loved the video and wanted to say how thankful I am for stuff like this... jkd has become a cool club.. the guys that can fight and actually follow Bruce Lee , they say where’s your certificate to teach? I’m off the grid for that exact reason...and the stick your hand out half way thing.. ya don’t do it either.. drop lead with bui gee threatening constantly GOD BLESS YOUR HONESTY SIFU JASON..I’d rather be able to deliver my jkd in a parking lot n save my life than just have a certification from the cool club... maybe some day though but for now I’d rather learn in the trenches..
Sifu: I really enjoy your videos. I thought you might like to hear a story from my martial arts journey. I had a good friend, Terry, who taught me some JKD. One day, Terry was practicing eye jabs with his teacher, Dan Inosanto. Guru Dan threw about 100 rapid jabs at Terry's eyes. All of a sudden, Dan stops, looks at his fingertip and says "Gee, Terry, I didn't know you wore contacts." Dan then returned the contact lens that he had accidentally extracted from Terry's eye. That's accuracy. BTW: Although I live in California, I grew up in the South. I spent a couple of summers in Greenville and have relatives nearby. Hope to have an opportunity to train with you someday soon.
Trained in wing chun and wing chun do myself, as well as jiu-jitsu. I like that you don't put that overwhelming emphasis on conditioning the fingers to do full on strikes with maximum power. First, it's not needed, as the eyes are so delicate even a loose hair or a few grains of sand in them, applied with essentially zero force, can be disorienting and make them water, force them into squinting, and disturb vision. Second, because eye strikes can be very opportunistic, something people never seem to talk about. If I've got my hands on your face or neck, on your shoulder or chest, it's a quick trip up to your eyes and I'm already very close and well-oriented as to where I am and need to go. A quick few inches is a lot different from closing in from even a few feet away. If I merely rake my fingers or fingernails across your eye, you're going to feel it, and even if you can take the pain, you may well get disoriented, especially when your eye starts to tear up automatically. The usual discussion of a finger strike having to be hard enough to break a board and incredibly accurate at the same time is leaving most of the technique's potential unexamined.
Sensei Seth says eye pokes dont work "because the word poke reminds him of tickling" here in reality MMA fighters have been permanently blinded by eye gouging
Bruce Lee's method of delivering the finger jab was unique, yet only a handful of JKD instructors employ this delivery method. For whatever reason, Bruce did not share the Hammer Principle with any of his Seattle or Oakland students, but he decided to teach this principle to L.A./Chinatown student Bob Bremer. Bruce could "drop the hammer" from 6 feet away, and there was nothing his opponent could do to stop it. The Hammer Principle is culled from Fencing and involves dropping the lead hand just below the line of sight and exploding off the raised rear heel via the forward lunge.
good video. you can raise high and jab down also to eye or body, even harder to see due to gravity. also, raise sideway and then go down or go straight.. or use the rear hand to jab after distraction. Important thing is to move or defend with higher guard or legs push kicks or blocks or kicks if there is counter attack before, while and after jabs and punches.
Would holding the rear hand high, with movement also aid as a distraction which make the lower hand doing the jab even more effective? Just a thought as I have rewatched this several times, and that seems logical.
As I see it,BL´s basic strategy was "stop-hitting "the opponent"(longest weapon to the nearest target)and "bridgeing the gap",so f.expl.a stop-kick(kicking range)than a finger jab(boxing range),than f.expl.a pak-sao to finish him ...!Thx Sifu !!! :-)

This is a great lesson But she is so cute tho just standing there do nothing 😂💯❤
I think a finger jab is effective move; once had to defend myself from a guy with a pair glasses I used the jab straight to Adam’s apple that ended the fight quick. I think a knuckle jab works if you have weaker fingers too.
How do you avoid jamming your fingers if you miss the target? Any tips on hand conditioning? Di da jow? Didn't Bruce also use the finger jab for the throat?
Roscoe Barnes III finger pushups are the best way to develop the strength you need. The eye jab is literally that - a jab. If you develop the requisite speed and accuracy even if you miss and strike bone you should be ok. The idea is to not thrust. That could break a finger if you miss. As for the throat strike - YES! That should be executed with a little more drive though. We classify that as a spear rather than a jab. Great questions and thanks for watching.
Hate to say it, but your assistant was talking so much that I could scarcely follow you . . . (Just joking.) I only discovered your vids last night, and I am finding them to be most enjoyable and informative. Good job.
Well you seem like a nice guy and I know very little of Jeet Kune Do and I'm a big fan of Bruce Lee I'm your friend is very very pretty and she seems really cool I'm glad you guys are teaching all this I would love one day to come in and check you guys out one of these days that would be awesome
Problem with eye jabs is there aren’t many good ways to spar with them. If you don’t throw them regularly in your sparring you will resort back to what you do the most which is closed fist striking/boxing.
I think Bruce Lee would be so proud to see his legacy alive and flourishing in today's modern world. It's such a simple technique, but so deadly. Nice presentation!
SIze matters, but then again, head size doesn't even vary that much. i asume a knock out isn't much harder to perform on a 190cm guy than a 175. Am i mistaken?
Buy a pair of metal mesh goggles and practice fingerjabs in a sparring/self defense simulation bout. That'll train your accuracy in terms of what size you're aiming for and resisting opponent. Just, still use control and aim only to touch. I've seen those wee bastard goggles get bent in by repeated hard fingerjabs. So, always practice control.
What about the foot work (besides leaning forward or taking a step) foot work application for each type of strikes.. Bruce Lee middle finger is slightly bent (spear hands) not just bunch together, the non telegraph is right.
Hi there, I really enjoy watching your techniques. A quick question... I'm thinking of starting JKD in the near future. I did Wing Chun for 3 years but haven't trained a martial art now for a few years but still have the muscle memory of the Wing Chun. I'm now approaching 55 and am fairly fit and go to the gym. The question is is it too old to train JKD and get to a competent level compared to Wing Chun. I just feel I need to have more techniques in my fighting to cover different possible scenarios that aren't necessarily close quarter. I would like to get back to using kicks more and i think leg stretching is important to keep up as you age to try and stay more supple . Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
CASTELL182 you’re definitely not too old to get started. And you’re right about stretching too - it’s an absolute must, especially as we get older. Anyway, just take it slow at first and stay as relaxed as possible. JKD is about being loose and snappy. A big mistake people make - at any age - is going too hard at first and then they get an injury. As we get older, of course, those pesky injuries take longer to recover from, so pace yourself smartly and you’ll be fine. Thanks so much for watching and good luck.
"basic physics" yes.. in terms of force, speed and mass are directly related. That means a train engine going 30 mph hits with more force than a corvette going 100 mph. A typical train engine car is at least 10* more massive than a corvette... to do the same damage, a corvette has to go at least 10* as fast as the train engine... hell even bruce lee said a smaller fighter will have to punch faster than a big fighter in order to hit as hard in his book.
Whether you fight a man 👨, woman 👩,lion 🦁, bear 🐻, or shark 🦈 if your life is in danger there's no better quick way to stunn your enemie than to attack him in the most vulnerable body part (eye jab)
Outstanding video. Sifu Jason's finger jab is ridiculous. I dont want it with his Uke either. She will leave yo ass blind pissing blood. The nicest people though.
Ali admitted after retirement that Foster was one of the hardest hitters, Ali is not a good example, he did the same to Shavers after Shavers hit him and no one can deny Shavers power. Plus Ali HAD genuine power when he planted and hit hard deliberately , his style was such that most of his hits were not full power this is a long discussion....
Thx for this video take a bucket filled with dry corn. So you can harden your fingers in it And if the apocalypse comes, you have something to eat 👍🎓👌👽 That last sentence was a joke
bruce lee got 1 logic, fear a man who train just one kind of punch for 10000 times and not fear a man who train 10000 different punchs for a single time, and i saw his book he hand a piece of paper on a ceiling and jab the paper for many time he keep repeating this simple move many times, and he also said finger jab is the most effective way in street fight
I agree with what you are saying but I disagree with putting this information out there for anyone. Kids will watch this and go and try it out on someone. This sort of practice and info should only be given to students who have shown discipline and restraint.
Your intro to ali shaking off lighter guys punch is diluted. Ali didnt seem effected cause Ali stays loose. Has nothing to do with dude moving up in weight.
I wonder which technique is better but the one in this video can hit both eyes and since the fingers are bent you can go really hard without breaking your finger. Your style with straight fingers jab has longer reach. So maybe from a far distance your closed finger jab is better but in closer fights the spread bent fingers is better. ruclips.net/video/lmKeVk9-Ub4/видео.html
Wrong Bruce Lee's deadliest technique shown is the guillotine choke in Way of the Dragon. Even if the choke was incorrectly executed, it was by far his deadliest technique ever shown, besides his legendary nunchaku strikes to the head. And your move eye poke jab shown is neither quick nor strong enough to kill a person so it cannot be the deadliest. And you would break your fingers doing the technique full force and speed on a makiwara.
Regardless. Bruce may have not been able to take punches as well a bigger opponent, but he would curb stomp this clown. 60 seconds and this guy is a door mat.
not exactly a job but if you stick your fingers all the way through someone's eye you can hurt their brain causing severe mental brain damage maybe death possibly by infection the eye jab is just simply to hurt your opponent in enough to where they are immobilized long enough for you to commit to another movement that can and possibly could kill them
Are you an actual student of Bruce Lee?? What rights do you havr to claim that you know his exact styles have you met him in person??? If not please stop posting videos youre a fake and Bruce Lee would be pissed. BRUCE DIDNT LIKE ANY MARTIAL ARTS SCHOOL TEACHING THE WRONG TECHNIQUE
Your sense of humor makes these videos so much fun to watch! Great job as usual!
Let’s pray that the wrong people never see these videos. Excellent Content teacher. 👍✔️👏
always welcome your information. I appreciate how sincere and authentic your approach is to helping others understand JKD/WC
Ron Boston 🙏. Thanks, Ron.
The eye jab is the longest reach you have where you're not using your feet. The eyes and throat are also the easiest areas of the face that can cause great damage without the need of using a lot of force.
Yes, you literally don't need ANY force, you just have to touch the eye.
What good is that it's fastest move in martial arts 😄
Fun. Boxers like Ali did this a lot with the jab. He'd basically whip the other fighter's eye with his glove. His coach would even shout from the corner, "Snake lick him, champ!"
Finger jab and boxers jab is different

Wow... that's crazy
Wow thanks for sharing that great story
Apparently, you love California, or you wouldn't live there.
It's like she is thinking why did you call me to get here and doing nothing when I was so good sleeping home

Training in Wing Chun he would have practiced Bil Gee a lot, it's no wonder that he was so good at it.
Yup, they have a whole form named after it, and it's part of all kinds of things besides an uninterrupted attack.

Sifu, would you be more (or less?) likely to eye jab if an opponent was wearing glasses/sunglasses? thank you
John P sure. Although you don’t see too many guys with glasses start a fight.
Would holding the rear hand high, with movement also aid as a distraction which make the lower hand doing the jab even more effective? Just a thought as I have rewatched this several times, and that seems logical.
An excellent and entertaining tutorial.

Speed coming directly at you is MUCH harder to see than swings or indirect hits... dang near impossible if it's fast..
Hell yes man it may lack in power but as bruce says what ever hits is effective
I think a finger jab is effective move; once had to defend myself from a guy with a pair glasses I used the jab straight to Adam’s apple that ended the fight quick. I think a knuckle jab works if you have weaker fingers too.
In the Tao of JKD, the corkscrew finger fan is listed but not explained do you have any information on the corkscrew finger fan?
I reaIly LIKE YOU AS A TRAINER WHO TEACH AND LET YOU UNDERSTAND WING CHUN AND THE WAYS OF STREET FIGHT.
How do you avoid jamming your fingers if you miss the target? Any tips on hand conditioning? Di da jow? Didn't Bruce also use the finger jab for the throat?

What a video, works great useing eagle claw/punch. Thanks
Nice video sifu
I personally like the Eye Whip more
Don't wanna risk hitting my fingers against the Forehead of my opponent
More good stuff, keep going

Question. What muscles are directly involved in its application?
shihanUKS triceps, deltoid and pectoral are primary, so it’s essential to keep them loose.

this is a long discussion....
As fun as is to imagine Bruce Lee was a superhuman, grandmaster, omni-talented gift from God, it’s more believable that he knew how to fight dirty
100 years a winner all over the world
NO WAY !
Bruce Lee is a Superhero.
He can beat anyone.😁😁😁
Isn't there a danger of jamming or breaking fingers each time you try to strike at the eyes?
That's why Charles Nelson's tiger-claw, might be better.
So I been eye jabbing it up for weeks now
Thx for this video
take a bucket filled with dry corn. So you can harden your fingers in it

That last sentence was a joke
In JKD you are taught respect for the Art. Do you not take off jewellery and spectacles in your... Dojo?
I'm going to tell your mother in law you said that.. :)
Ironically, you are showing this technique with somebody who is wearing glasses...

The only two things I disagree with our this is not the deadliest technique, and she should be wearing safety glasses not just regular glasses
5:15
snake?
Ip man would carry chop sticks for his enemy's eye balls and Bruce Lee would say don't be afraid to bite if needed
Nice expansion on a civilian martial art
Your intro to ali shaking off lighter guys punch is diluted. Ali didnt seem effected cause Ali stays loose. Has nothing to do with dude moving up in weight.
Good for multiple threats.
Except I like to flick instead of jab
Then I kick em right in the nuts
👍😎👍

What an awful thing to teach someone.
Where did you see Bruce Lee making an Eye Jab. He never performed it ?
The fighting method and Tao of JKD books
Deadliest ? So you can kill some one with a jab to the eyes (spear hand)????
not exactly a job but if you stick your fingers all the way through someone's eye you can hurt their brain causing severe mental brain damage maybe death possibly by infection the eye jab is just simply to hurt your opponent in enough to where they are immobilized long enough for you to commit to another movement that can and possibly could kill them

lol bruce lee is not a fighter his an ACTOR! AND IF HIS A REAL FIGHTER MAYBE HIS JUST AN AMATURE FIGHTER!! PROFESSIONAL MMA FIGHTERS WILL SMOKE HIM
