After re-studying and practicing your lesson, I have to say you are an amazing Sifu. I learned variations od a side kick in Tae Kwon Do (too high and telegraphed,) a Kenpo hybrid, too telegraphed and slower, Wing Chun (the school I was at in AZ) mainly taught as a check kick to set up hand attacks. You are going to be a great master of JKD/Wing Chun. You are an amazing, and Sifu Jason must love how well you represent the Academy. Thanks again for very valuable lesson.
Sifu jason, you should be one proud S.O.B, sifu around is fantastic, makes everything look easy, in the future, if anyone asks your students " what lineage you from" they will say SIFU JASON, well done sifu jason and sifu Aron, keep the excellent videos coming, GOD BLESS
The push of the back foot drives the power of the front foot, plus the power of the front foot, the action is done in one go, as well as the distance and proper judgment.I just want to say you are the best Sifu Aaron!
@Sifu Aaron It was effective. I left TKD a long time ago, did some Wing Chun some a hybrid martial art called American Combato (it had some JKD like philosophy). Now I am working WC again and JKD thanks to your academy.
If you point your toe down a bit further at full extension pulling them back and extending the heel you will be more properly structurally aligned for more power and stability coming from the gluts and rear muscles of the back and leg, this is why good form with a medium height side thrust kick is with the toes lower than the heel at max extension, experiment with greater ammount of 'chambering' to see how it compares and also spinning back, I break four by twos with this more sidewards stomping side thrust kick. More chambering is the secret to being able to launch in any direction and bringing leg, knee and foot folded back closer to body allows your leg to be less a target also, look at film reels of Bruce, he chambered his leg a lot more by the early seventies, a technique shown to him for more powerful side thrust kicking than trad kung fu equivalents by Jhoon Rhee the TKD master.
bit of a long question 3 parts, but i think its important and i guess you are the right person to ask, what do you think of the ''internal'' wing chun, compared to wing chun which is the more practical i guess you could say where you don't focus so much on being loose and applying your body with the whole weight compared to the ones like yours or others which have a boxing style power generation (so to speak), my second part was i do wing chun i also feel that i should learn some grappling may it be wrestling, judo, bjj,jj to help the ground-fighting aspect and to be more well rounded if that makes sense, so yeah would you say i should learn some grappling too? i mean no harm right it and i would have a better ground game which is lacking in wing chun, last part i know people say lineage doesn't matter but what is your opinion on the william cheung lineage, i found his power to be more external/ similar to boxing power creation to the other lineages who focus on the internal. thank you
Here’s the thing people get confused about regarding the low kick to the knee. I’ve watched other RUclips channels claiming it doesn’t work. Here are the claims: A. When it’s used in mma, it usually doesn’t do much. B.If it was so great, it would be used all the time in mma C. It’s a myth that you can break someone’s leg that easy. Re:A When kicking with a barefoot to a bare leg, the foot is softer, it can slip off of the knee, not imparting much force. But if your opponent is wearing jeans, and you are wearing shoes, or better yet, footwear with some traction, the kick digs into the meat of the knee from friction, much more force is transmitted. Re:B see above Re: C you don’t have to break the knee joint to stop an opponent, a severe sprain or tearing of the ligaments and tendons will be likely, and very destabilizing. Regarding a flick vs a body weight drop/shove into the knee, snap into and past the knee, and perhaps do a slight “Dempsey drop “ into it. Just make sure you don’t over commit.
This is not meant as negative: If you choose to use this side kick, I think you should not go back but continue moving forward with punches. In addition, I think you should choose to kick from the back foot (straight to the target, kicking with the inside of the foot) because it is quicker, has the same reach, has more force and significantly reduces risk of injury to your ankle.
@@michaellynch9862 Maybe... the thumb is better protected this way and if the hit connects, you strike with the bottom three knuckles, as you should. On the other hand, thump down comes more natural, like if you were going to use your elbow to strike, plus the same move can be used holding a weapon like a knife or a tonfa..
I have seen a video about jeet tek. Whats the difference beetwen jeet tek and side kick? Or is that the same kick used to stop the atack of the oponent?
Great work, thank you

I like this instructor! Love the editing too!
Proper timing, distance, and accuracy are essential in making this kick work in a real fight scenario.
Good stuff! And a good change up from Sifu Jason.
Love the new intro!! And serious videography upgrade 👌🏻
Great job and great video!!!
Very informative. Thank you Sifu Aaron,

@Sifu Aaron You're welcome Jeet Kune Do needs to understand every part of the body carefully in order to achieve its effect.
Best low side-kick video on RUclips! Thanks, Aaron!
Simply excellent. Thank you.
Nice man. Well done. I like the intro!
I get through the opponent. Much love Master.
More of this series! (I see potential for a healthy inter-sifu rivalry for watches and likes! "Kumite! Kumite!")
Great breakdown on the JKD sidekick Aaron! It's like the Saat Geng Sau for the lower body, obviously aiming for those lower targets.
Great breakdown Sifu Aaron. You have good bad jokes also.
Very good video
Well done sifu
Great lesson, especially the last section.
@Aaron Bouchillon I 1st learned the side kick in TKD, but later learned they taught me the wrong height to use it.
@Sifu Aaron It was effective. I left TKD a long time ago, did some Wing Chun some a hybrid martial art called American Combato (it had some JKD like philosophy). Now I am working WC again and JKD thanks to your academy.

Lee says in is book "bruce lees fighting method" that you can use the outside edge of your foot if you wear suitable shoes.
*Silver Lining*
Thanks to Chris' sacrifice, there's been a lot of videos on alternative techniques and counters to checks.
Good stuff
Start at 1:56 to avoid the bad jokes lol... but seriously, one of the best videos on this topic I've seen. Thumbs up!
@Sifu Aaron Shared to my friends, both of them LOL

When kicking with a barefoot to a bare leg, the foot is softer, it can slip off of the knee, not imparting much force.
But if your opponent is wearing jeans, and you are wearing shoes, or better yet, footwear with some traction, the kick digs into the meat of the knee from friction, much more force is transmitted.

@Sifu Aaron just bought a pair, thanks for the detailed answer lol

He's teaching the side kick, How you use it, is your business.

Greetings from Greece. I would like to know which is the proper way to hook, thumb facing you or the floor? Keep up the good work!
Thumb up
