Good job Brian! I really appreciate your channel. I sell PBE supplies and paint (for the last 35 yrs) and when someone (off the street, my favorite type of customer 😲) asks how to paint their car I recommend they watch your videos. An old timer taught me long ago when it came to a metallic don't worry about the first two coats (If doing 3 coats). Your last coat do a crosshatch pattern (laying your coat at angles to avoid zebra stripes). Has saved my bacon plenty of times!
Hey Brian, I've been watching you for a couple of years now. I'll be painting my own car over Christmas at home for the first time, so I'm just going back through all your videos. Just want to say thank you for every piece of advice you've given on this channel. Cheers from Australia.
Thing I noticed most is using wrong reducer or activator on clears. My base always looked perfect. I’d cheap out on clear hence shop line and using medium reducer on hot day and a lot of the no brand clears do not have good temp guides.
I've really come to appreciate sealer, it helps with adhesion and covers a multitude of sins. Last time I had to cut in with a repair and sealer I picked up the HOK clear binder and the flake was able to lay down great everywhere!
Some car's left factory with that problem but that is what trained car painter see ,not customer!there are, i admit some paint hard to handle merc787 for example.adding 5%slow hardner in last(drop coat)will enhance adhesion of clear coat to base coat and make it easyer to fade out blending area p35 in sikkens convention.
Hey hey Brian. SEMA is on my bucket list. Great video as always. Did drives me crazy when bumpers don’t match the rest of the vehicle. Take care my friend.
Brian, I love your videos literally the best teacher no wonder you’re actually a teacher lol 😂😂😂😂 do you have any tips on spring in cold weather I live in Washington it’s usually 50 and under right now. I was thinking of spraying some thing outside and taking it inside to cure.
Hey Brian! Is there a particular angle you want to try and hold the gun at? It appears the gun angle with base coat was different than clear. Also, when spraying the fenders it didn’t look angled and more straight on.
I am always cocked at a slight angle. Its always the base to lay better in my opinion. Use the side of the fan when doing side panels for the blends. Clear is similar
@@jessemontgomery60you can tack between coats up to clear of course. Just have use static gun after. Keeps any contamination and or overstay out of paint job
I would love for you to do a video on aviators and reducers for diy guys in a garage non shop arena. What specs, etc. when you're in a non climate controlled situation.
One question do you use any adhesion promoter knowing u got a lot of plastics with cars today. I don’t but they say more prone to spider cracks on just bumps.
So after taking your advise of it’s just paint. I’m in the process of sanding my truck the front half is chalky until it hits metal. Should I just strip it all the way down or will primer stick to the old chalky paint ?
I always hated sand spots. Grainy on the clear even when biting it hard again I usually couldn’t get it to go away along with shrinking cause the clear was so cheap. I don’t buy super cheap clear anymore. It just creates a mess for all The prep hours.
I wish the guy who repainted my hood cared about longevity as inside 5 years the edges of the hood lost all their paint and using polish i burned through it on the second pass with the duel action....Just how thin was that clear coat? Not spraying the edges on hood left no protection. Bought a new Hood, Have to get the whole car sprayed, Ford Tungsten Gray Metallic. How do I ask someone to leave more clear on the car than the collision quick job? LOL
Technik has been changed here, no more blending additive before blending, and no more 50/50 mix of additive and paint for better transition. Why did you ditch that?
OK…. Riddle me this Batman! Did an overall on a Porsche (gray metallic). Paint laid out nice. Let the base dry for an hr. Put first coat of clear on and it looked PERFECT! Let that dry for 20 minutes, put on 2nd wetter coat and it MOTTLED on the tops of the quarters and fenders???
I am going to say either you didnt notice it at first OR you put the clear on heavy and the base wasnt fully cured so the clear pulled the metallic apart
@@PaintSociety The hood, deck lid, front and rear bumpers had zero mottling. As I said the base dried for almost an hr. The base looked fine all over the car. I’m in Florida and was using high temp reducer and hardner. I’m thinking I double coated the tops of the fenders and quarters (accidentally) and the 2nd coat of clear bit thru the first coat.
@PaintSociety There is always time to learn. 😁 the link was already in spanish. It didn't need subtitles. On this blender additive you used in the video, is it universal? Can you apply it to Basecoat? Or just clearcoat? And is it a 2:1:1 4:1:1 or 4:1:2 Ratio mix. The reason im asking is because I have a 2018 Malibu paint 410Y Old Blue Eyes Metallic, a 2018 Impala paint code 636R Switchblade Silver Metallic. Paint is hella expensive looking for a good blending additive for these metallics to lay smooth and your recommendations on what fluid tips to use for metallics, sealer, primer, and clear. I would appreciate the advice. Thank you.
No mention in the title of DIY. Not all my videos are geared toward the DIY but i can get the same result with a $100 gun and I have proved that many times

The cross hatch pattern really works great! Been using it for a long time. Thank you so much for the comment.
I just want to tell you what a fine job you do. Plus you are passing on your tips of the trade to the rest of us. Thank you sir.
Thank you
Saw your work on the truck at SEMA Brian. First class!!
Cant take all the credit but that truck turned out awesome!!

I notice a big difference in using high quality reducer. Youre right!
not every base coat brands spray a weat first coat, If I do that with the brand im working with now I get alot of problems
I've really come to appreciate sealer, it helps with adhesion and covers a multitude of sins. Last time I had to cut in with a repair and sealer I picked up the HOK clear binder and the flake was able to lay down great everywhere!

Funny thing is the driver fender isnt on the ticket but I blended it for free because of color match issues on this color
You’re a good man Brian.
I’ve made the mistake of “I need a fast reducer because it’s a two tone and I need to tape to it.” Short on time. Then it made everything take longer.
Yup. I always think “slower is faster”
@ yeah! Also seems to look better. I sent you a good mess up I had last week. It’s could to be rough to fixing
Being in a hurry is the slowest thing you can do.
Brian, I love your videos literally the best teacher no wonder you’re actually a teacher lol 😂😂😂😂 do you have any tips on spring in cold weather I live in Washington it’s usually 50 and under right now. I was thinking of spraying some thing outside and taking it inside to cure.
Thank you so much, yes, you can use medium hardeners, and that will help it dry faster 😉
Definitely have helped me in the past! Thanks 🙏
Love your videos. It helps me paint my cars.
Glad you like them!
Thanks for sharing your expertise
great content. that second car he found down the row that was the same model as he had just painted- that car has a badly mismatched bumper 11:15.
I did come to find out that wasnt oem later.

A video about when the static gun is needed and when it ain’t.
Just pull a ground cable from the vehicle to the plug socket
Apparently they are telling me to use it all the time between all coats.
@ might be better, was always told to use it on plastic, metal flake, and clear over either one.
@@jessemontgomery60you can tack between coats up to clear of course. Just have use static gun after. Keeps any contamination and or overstay out of paint job
@@PaintSocietyI'm from Tanzania you my model ❤
Hi Brian, is it always a good practice to paint the whole hood instead of blending it in the middle of the hood?
It depends on the job. For this one i was blending both fender and hood so its just easier to go over the whole hood. Less of a chance of mis match
I would love for you to do a video on aviators and reducers for diy guys in a garage non shop arena. What specs, etc. when you're in a non climate controlled situation.

Ad pro only on plastics
So after taking your advise of it’s just paint. I’m in the process of sanding my truck the front half is chalky until it hits metal. Should I just strip it all the way down or will primer stick to the old chalky paint ?
Metal is always best then epoxy primer. Scuff with 320 and 2k urethane surfacer primer
Do you have any issues with overspray on your GoPro? Or do you do anything special to protect the GoPro from the overspray?
Same question I have how to protect go pro from paint dust?
I use my iphone for youtube now. When i used my go pro, it was beat up but just wiped glass lens with reducer.
What clear you using MS, HS? What psi and overlap with the ws400?
Utech 4.0 85% overlap on flat panels. Around 75% on side
What brand/Type clear coat you use on this vehicle ?
Great job!!!
Thank you! Cheers!

Couldn’t agree more!
When I spray the base wet like that it leaves dark lines every overlap, and I do overlap over my previous stroke
thanks
Hi Brian , is it necessary to add hardner to solvent basecoat ? i seem to have ( not always ) some delamination issues on blacks and-or whites . 👋
Only if your Paint manufacturer requires it
@@PaintSociety Much appreciated
Are aerosol blenders any good?
Average
Over the years I only use mr188 very very slow reducer. Nothing else
Smart move!

If you bring it to a shop that has a lifetime guarantee on their paint then you’ll never have any issues if it has a fade or premature wear
Very nice video man !!!!!!
I’m going for four videos this week lol
@PaintSociety your blowing me out of the water I gotta catch up 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 I’m going on vacation. I gotta catch up lol
VERY GOOD VIDEO, HOW DO YOU COMPARE DV1 VS. PORPHIS PRD 717VS ❤?
Dv1 is king for base
Can you add a link for the anti-static gun?
Added but these are very pricey
Or could use clear intercoat clear as wetbed on blend panels
You can. Yes
Probably should add that some paint brands req different techniques 👍 .
What dv1 B or B+ ?
Technik has been changed here, no more blending additive before blending, and no more 50/50 mix of additive and paint for better transition. Why did you ditch that?
How you much on shoulder if you don’t do end to end
?
Good job. When I get the money, i will let you do my supra.
Any of the slightest bump divot or uneven surface feeling will show no matter what you spray.
Very true
You're not supposed to be tacking while you use the static gun. Static gun should be used just before spraying each coat.
How you much on the the shoulder clear
How do you do on the shoulder between the all the new pen and clear have matching together when I did that always come out the line
💪💪

You can do it!
Can you do a paint a car under a tree on Saturday?
I wouldnt
Notice all the links for amazon in spanish. How come you don't make a spanish video? Would be nice for all the spanish speaking viewers like myself.
I don’t speak Spanish, but you can use the subtitles to change it to Spanish

Blending is 1:1 with base if you need the color to blend out better. Its for tough metallics
@PaintSociety Got you. Thank you. So would this product on the video work on base, or is it just for clear?
Most diy’ers can’t afford those expensive a$$ spray guns that you have so it’s easy for you and not for others.
