We co-exist yet you are fed information that undermines stories like Coates to absolutely nothing, disheartening bc it shows you have no empathy for another human. Don't be so narrow-minded and polarized as well with your thoughts. Simply look at our mass incarceration system (new jim crow) and tell me who do you see more so in prison? THat will maybe help you be more understanding of a situation and life of black folks in America.

    Even liberal & democratic whites are also racist when it comes to blacks, in his view. For an advanced democracy and a great nation built by immigrants , really surprises me at the racism towards blacks in America.
    Electing a mixed race president is cool but long way to go for the ground reality to change,i guess.

      It's true when you look at it the work they've NOT done. In fact the most damage done was when Clinton was in office slightly before he left office. After that the next Repuke Pres just needed to pile on the fucked up laws created. Democrats sat right there letting all this go on while taking the black vote for granted. Pres. Obama comes into office and they turn against him while their running for their seats in the House and Senate! He did little to help blacks but got blocked at damn near every turn. Harry Reid had a chance to help he opted not to change this nonsense played games. IMO I agree Democrats and Republicans are the same no difference in black life either way. Only a few democrats and one republican want to do their job the rest are suppressing them and getting paid for not working.

    He's probably a great father, but if he were to truly live up to that role, he should've probably explained to his son that it's not up to a verdict to confirm his emotions. He should've sat down and reviewed all available evidence of the Michael Brown shooting with his son, so that he could show his son that what one feels so strongly isn't always warranted. But, I'm afraid that Coates has a certain worldview that he'd like his son to adopt that only seeks to confirm emotional biases. It's quite irresponsible, but I think it's coming from a genuine place. It's up to Coates to realize his errors.

    This guy's book is horrible. I had to read it for English class. It's just him venting out of anger and bitterness but he writes it in a letter form to his son but he never gives him hope or a push towards changing the world.

    • @zachb9440
      @zachb9440 Год назад +3

      The fact that he doesn’t sugar coat reality with a positive uplifting ending does not inherently make his book bad. I suspect you only hate the book because you were forced to read it for english and you never actually got past the first couple paragraphs.
      Even if that’s not the case, his novel is most definitely not “just him venting” or any similar dumbing-down of the man’s work. Between the World and Me is very well written and Coates has deserved all the renowned praise he’s received since its publication.

    Is it just me or it it obvious that Mr. Coates really have it against whites. I mean, it must have been a sacrifice for him to be in CBS Morning show and talk to not one, but two white guys about racial profiling and discrimination, that maybe it was just the fact that the beautiful Gayle King would make things smoother¡ He seemed to me like he didn't;t really wanted to talk to Jeff Glor. Don't get me wrong, I like his writings and book, but he is not doing his part as a writer in bringing people together and see all sides of a crime impartially.

    All but forgotten, is the plan Thomas Jefferson had to ship all slaves back to Africa. He had calculated how long it would take and how much it would have cost. Unfortunately, it was never implemented. I am sure it would have made slaves and blacks today happier to be scratching out a living in the jungles and deserts of Africa. And it would have been so much better for America. The reparations have already been paid by the 250,000 soldiers who gave their lives to free the slaves.
