Great video. Probably the most relatable and in depth I've seen so far. We're putting in our pool Long Island, NY. It's my husband's dream come true so I know it will be worth it.
Hi Michael, this is Jimmy and Sally. We also have travertine and the pool builder told us to use Wet and Forget solution to spray on the travertine. It works like magic. It prevents algae growth for about 3 months until the next spray. Of course you need to pressure wash your travertine before spraying again.
These types of videos are my favorites. I’d like to see a checklist for snowbirds leaving for months. Dealing with mail service, vehicles, fridge, toilets, insects, etc.
Heat pumps work well in Florida. They are way more economical than gas. I have a pool in Sarasota that I keep 85+ degrees all year. Costs about $100 a month in the winter to heat 10k gallon pool. Just make sure to put a cover on the pool because evaporation is the quickest way the pool looses heat.
We are building a pool very similar right now and pricing isn’t that different. 107k with automation a heater, a sun shelf, bubblers laminar deck jets, quad filter from Jandy, salt cell, flow meter, and a 42 foot long panoramic screen cage surrounding the entire thing. We also went with travertine glass tile and we went with wet edge prism matrix pebble at the end of the day it’s basically a car payment. As far as the heater in Fla, definitely get one, it’s 5-7k add on however our neighbor has one and leaves it at a set temp and he has said it’s around 100$ a month avg over the year. More in “winter” and less in summer. We had same exact one installed on ours. Also, we got 6 quotes and in the end went with a guy that had a solid track record, no BBB complaints and does business word of mouth. We have been happy so far. We are getting close to completion.
You guys are awesome! Thank you for this. I am in Indiana and in the process of installing a 16 x 33 fiberglass. I am getting a Hayward heat pump but now wishing I had chosen the gas one. We were going to have to trench the gas line across the back yard and under our concrete patio but didn't want to do that because of water issues . Sigh! Your oasis is beautiful!
Courtney & Michael: You two are funny. Half way through the video we knew that we would hire someone to keep our pool up to speed. No, seriously we knew it would take more than we have strength-wise to keep the pool maintained. I wish that we could have asked these questions when we met you, so this video has answered the questions. As always, we can count on both of you to tell the truth when it needs to be told. Thank you and take care.
We love your video ,because it gives us useful info. We feel kinda nervous, because builder is about to finish our new house and pool in North Port, that's where we going to move from Chicago and all that maintains around the house , with septic tank included is like black magic for us. Thanks again for showing all this procedures. By the way ... Your last name includes ours . We are originally from Poland and in our old language your name means ...
We have a few screens that ripped (but it made it through 5 years and multiple hurricanes before that happened!) so we are thankful for that! Super easy to fix and definitely worth having!
You can use white vinegar over the muriatic acid for the same result in cleaning the salt cell, at least based on my water/calcium build up. It's less harsh on the cell and easier to manage. I've been using it on our saltwater hot tub and pool for about 7 years
If you’re in the Manatee/Sarasota area, Superior Pools is great, Bulldog pools is a smaller locally owned company, Duwet is another local one we have had past clients use!
A metal wire brush will probably void your interior finish warranty. It will also scratch tiny grooves in the surface that will allow algae to lock in place.
Great video. What month do you stop heating the pool? What will the ambient pool temp be say in July? Does it track closer to the daily high temp or the daily low temp (air temp)?
Awesome video! We are getting a pool and spa installed in Venice for around 93k with sun deck and fountain. Pool 15x30. What are your dimensions? Did you have any damage to your irrigation during install? What pool company did you use? I plan to do maintenance myself as well. I like this intro into it. Any other videos you recommend that you watched to learn how to do it?
Thanks! Ours is 24x14 .. minor damage to a few irrigation lines but easy to fix! Our pool company was out of Pinellas County at the time. Appreciate you watching!
Here in the Austin area, pool maintenance runs $ 250 or more. I am planning on putting in a automatic pool monitor so that I will know how much and when to put in chemicals.
Wow that’s a much bigger cost! Many companies here charge under $100 to come biweekly and clean & test the water. But something automatic sounds like a great idea
Color finish of your pool? Also pebble? Stonescape? Marquis? Etc. Thank you so much. It’s beautiful and need to chose our color so leaning into this color.
Once a month should be plenty for the cleaning. Adding chemicals or salt all depends on what the water needs to be balanced, so get that tested once a month, too!
Small pools starts at $45k (just the pool) and then you need to add the cost of electricity, pavers, heaters, lights ( extras ..It usually comes with 1 light) slides, water fountains , enclosed gate..You are looking around $100k for a smaller pool than the one on the video.
Hi Jimmy! It depends on the season but any time we see the water get close to edge of those waterline tiles, we add some! During the summer rainy season, it's less. Right now probably every 3 weeks or so.
Man we just sold our home to downsize and make life simpler. We just got a quote, and the cost of a new pool went up over $20,000! And our pool is smaller. We are considering removing the hot tub 😢
I sold my new electric pool heater and got instead a solar water heater for the pool only. works divine 💗. temp goes up to 90+F. also has a sensor/thermostat to control temp. For the winter season in Florida you can cover at night with a pool solar blanket to prevent water get cold. Is a low watts usage by the way.
Not necessarily anything special.. it's a natural stone so it has a more porous quality than a paver. It is very durable and we just liked the way it looked around the pool area. All personal preference! There are a ton of options.
Trust me when I am ready to get out on New Jersey, which will be in the near furture, you guys have gave us so much info, on Lakewood Ranch, you guys are definitely going to be are realtors, I would feel like I was cheating on my wife, because you guys have really been kind with the info, we really appreciate your videos. we were not sure about a lot of things, you guys gave us a great education. Thank You.
Who are you getting estimates from?! When you build a hot tub into a pool, it should NOT add that much. Your pool looks pretty simple, addition of a hot tub at the time of building the pool should have brought you from $50K to around $70K, not $100K.
At the time of building the pool it would have been VERY affordable. We didn’t, however, and adding one on now is much more costly unfortunately. They have to account for any damage potentially done to the current pool, as well, so it can be very expensive
Great video. Probably the most relatable and in depth I've seen so far. We're putting in our pool Long Island, NY. It's my husband's dream come true so I know it will be worth it.
Thank you for the comment! Glad it was helpful! We hope you love your new pool 😊

Thanks for the feedback and idea, Zack! We can definitely work on a video like that 😄

Yup... night time heat loss is a big drain on the $$$. A cover certainly helps

If nothing else, we try to keep it real! Glad you enjoyed the video :-)
Thanks for the information
I agree with @Zack Wheat - Really enjoy these very practical videos for new homeowners relocating.
Thank you!
We’ll done! I’m a new pool owner. Very helpful!
So glad it was helpful!
Michael I have a saltwater pool now I do get my pool salt from Home Depot it’s is less expensive than a pool store. That is just an idea.
Thank you for the tip! Good to know!
And Sam’s Club, Costco and BJ’s are all less expensive than Home Depot for salt

Thank you for watching! Don’t be nervous- it gets easier after a while. Best of luck with the new home and welcome to FL!
I would love a cage like this, but i am worried about hurricanes. You said it was fine in the video, but curious on an update there
We have a few screens that ripped (but it made it through 5 years and multiple hurricanes before that happened!) so we are thankful for that! Super easy to fix and definitely worth having!

really helpful info thanks - moving into a NEAL home in July 2023
Welcome to the area!
Awesome video. Thank you for the honest information!
Thank you for watching!
Any recommendations for a good company to build a new pool? There are so many in the area I wasn’t sure who to call.
If you’re in the Manatee/Sarasota area, Superior Pools is great, Bulldog pools is a smaller locally owned company, Duwet is another local one we have had past clients use!
Great video, thanks for the info.
Glad to help :-)
excellent video
Thanks... glad you liked it
Great video and thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it
Gas price depends on if you have gas from the city or if it’s a tank. A tank is twice as expensive as city gas.
For sure. Here in our area of Florida we have gas in most communities. In fact, I don't think external tanks would be allowed
Great video!
Thank you... was fun to make!
A metal wire brush will probably void your interior finish warranty. It will also scratch tiny grooves in the surface that will allow algae to lock in place.
Thanks. So far no issues... but I'll watch for that.
Great video. What month do you stop heating the pool? What will the ambient pool temp be say in July? Does it track closer to the daily high temp or the daily low temp (air temp)?
Usually we turn the heat off in November or December... In July the pool will be around 92 degrees just naturally. Florida sun!
Awesome video! We are getting a pool and spa installed in Venice for around 93k with sun deck and fountain. Pool 15x30. What are your dimensions? Get the "Whale Tail" for your pool scraper. You will not regret it.
I love my hot tub. I’m happy I never got one. The pool owns you.
We've been really lucky to have a minimal maintenance pool.
We went with ozone rather than chlorine or slat. Great third option
Didn't even know that was an option! interesting.
Color finish of your pool? Also pebble? Stonescape? Marquis? Etc. Thank you so much. It’s beautiful and need to chose our color so leaning into this color.
It is PebbleTec but I don’t recall the exact color. It’s a light tan with aqua blue flecks and makes the water look really bright and tropical 😊
@@SoldByChenkus THANK YOU! I can work with that information!
Where do you get the glass panels from
Hi... Not sure what you mean by glass panels.
Great video, but one question…..how often you do the steps that you demonstrated in this video? Once a Week? Once a Month? Thank you in advance
Once a month should be plenty for the cleaning. Adding chemicals or salt all depends on what the water needs to be balanced, so get that tested once a month, too!
Ive seen really small pools in FL. Curious what these might start out at? Any Clue?
Small pools starts at $45k (just the pool) and then you need to add the cost of electricity, pavers, heaters, lights ( extras ..It usually comes with 1 light) slides, water fountains , enclosed gate..You are looking around $100k for a smaller pool than the one on the video.
That's about right. You can scale back the features and get a nice pool for $75-80k. But the more you add, the faster that price goes up!
Are the community pools open and in use in the winter months? Do they have heated pools?
All community pools are open year-round. Most are heated, but some are not. It depends on the community!
Michael/Courtney, how often do you have to add water to your pool? Thanks
Hi Jimmy! It depends on the season but any time we see the water get close to edge of those waterline tiles, we add some! During the summer rainy season, it's less. Right now probably every 3 weeks or so.
Did you get the tighter mesh screen? I think its 20/20? Is it necessary bc it is an upgrade. Thanks!
We did not get the tight mesh... and honestly we don't see a need for it. No bugs, better view.
Do you use the sun shelf? I was thinking a spa would be more useful. What are your thoughts?
btw loved the video
We do use it, but we wish we did a spa instead!
How deep is your pool? I am planning to build a 24x14 pool as well. The builder quoted it at 5 ft deep in the deepest area.
I have to ask, what plants did you go with to screen the sides?
Areca palms! They are a great option for privacy screening
Man we just sold our home to downsize and make life simpler. We just got a quote, and the cost of a new pool went up over $20,000! And our pool is smaller. We are considering removing the hot tub 😢
Pricing has definitely changed..we regret not having one but it has to be what works best for you!
Is your birdcage made of glass, or is that screened in? Thanks!
Screened in! It’s a clear view screen so it seems easier to see through in that middle panel
Hi mate. How big is your pool. I feel it is more than what you said. Can you provide in meters. Thanks
Hello... approximately 26' x 14'. What did I say in the video? Hopefully I wasn't too wrong!
My jacuzzi hot tub only 10,000 but it was separate they recommended it to be separated cause it’s more economic
Yes that would definitely be another, more cost effective option!
Can pools be solar heated and if they Can is it feasible?
They can be! We did not look into that option so I am not sure how reliable it is, but solar is definitely a possibility.
What color is your travertine? Very pretty!
Good question! I’m not sure what the specific color name was but it’s a creamy white versus bright white. I’ll see if I can look up our old specs!
Who was your cage builder?
CRA Aluminum does a lot of cages in this area and I believe they did ours!
Michael forgot to ask how the gecko got into such small and closed space? Possibly travel through drain?
I wish I knew! They find their way into the craziest spaces. Poor little guy!
What is special about travertine decking?
Not necessarily anything special.. it's a natural stone so it has a more porous quality than a paver. It is very durable and we just liked the way it looked around the pool area. All personal preference! There are a ton of options.
Trust me when I am ready to get out on New Jersey, which will be in the near furture, you guys have gave us so much info, on Lakewood Ranch, you guys are definitely going to be are realtors, I would feel like I was cheating on my wife, because you guys have really been kind with the info, we really appreciate your videos. we were not sure about a lot of things, you guys gave us a great education. Thank You.
We look forward to helping you when you're ready! Glad the information has been educational :)
woof, jersey taxes
Where is this neighborhood?
Lakewood Ranch!
Florida doesn’t get cold.
What do you call cold
COLD FOR ME IS 40 and below
LOL well it gets chilly enough to want a hot tub! Not necessarily as cold as many other places, luckily!
Your pool with screen today would be between 95-110k. If someone told you 150k they are ripping you off.
Oh travertine. Add another 6k to my above price range.
Who are you getting estimates from?! When you build a hot tub into a pool, it should NOT add that much. Your pool looks pretty simple, addition of a hot tub at the time of building the pool should have brought you from $50K to around $70K, not $100K.

wet and forget spray on.. no need for power wash trust me. you can thank me later.
Thanks for the tip!
Everything went nuts since dementia joe in office, way to go voters lol
Give me a break
