Woo, pools have gotten expensive! We spent $54k on ours in GA with a pool and spa. I’m sure it’s probably doubled by now. We had unexpected expenses like adding a gas line from our meter which was about $1500 and we had to get a bigger gas meter from the gas company for the heater. My tip to everyone is make sure you register your pool equipment for the warranty, within our first year our pool pump died and was replaced for free!
This video is so good and detailed! Better than the videos I’ve seen from pool construction companies. Awesome job guys, enjoy the new pool - it’s beautiful.
Awesome video…Our pool was completed April of last year. Our initial fantasy budget was $100,000….Final cost:$150,000. Despite that additional cost…We love our outside oasis. Worth every penny. Your pool and everything that you have done to your yard is absolutely amazing.🎉❤
Thank you for your honesty and being candid and detailed! Also the videography and how y’all talk and articulate details is great! That custom made concrete waterfall is so gorgeous. Hope y’all get many decades of enjoyment from this…
Best, most transparent video ever! Thank you for being forthcoming. You likely sold more pools than any other pool builder that hesitates to give this level of detail.
I agree with this whole heartedly. I happen to have a very similar pool like this already in our back yard. I am Going to build myself another pool for my kids to play basketball in and for me to have a spa for my health. Plus I was a Sun ledge are where it is flat and just deep enough to do stretches and such. I want that connected to the spa to heat up. This is going to be something to take care of myself. I also intended to have. Starting budget if $100K. I knew I would likely go over that. Your video helped a ton.
My wife and I love your videos. We appreciate your candor. Sharing the cost of your outdoor oasis is an example of your commitment to sharing valuable information with us viewers. Thanks for demonstrating love, respect, and care for all. Enjoy
Thank you so much for your transparency with the cost of your pool and all of the items to take into consideration. I have been planning on putting in a pool, and to hear this it helps in keeping things within a budget. You two are amazing, and love watching your videos. Keep up the great work.
I work for a major pool company and the first thing I tell customers when I see they only chose a heat pump is that they may want to consider a heater/chiller instead. Florida gets hot as heck and you’ll be using that chiller WAY more than the heater. Also, your pool looks amazing and that price is amazing as well!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Your transparency is important. It's very hard to get good numbers. Don't feel bad about the amount you spent, it is so very hard to keep costs down these days. You are doing a service for everyone.
What a gorgeous backyard. Money well spent, given you can afford it. (How many people overspend and lose it?) Why be ashamed? It's your home and your life. Your videos are not just entertainment, but do a great service for viewers, whether looking to buy, upgrade or remodel. Isn't this a big part of that? This video is real life, not made up numbers or reality show. Much thanks for sharing this, I, for one, very much appreciate and love it.
You're bot such fantastic speakers who make a lot of sense. Your honesty is so appreciated even if I think those numbers are crazy but if you love and enjoy your space over the next 15-20 years then it is well worth it @ $11,713 so it's not all that bad if you have all that money in one go.. I love your space, well done.
Thank you so much for this!! I've been looking for awhile now, to find a video like this, just to get a current idea for a pool in Florida. Very helpful!!
Thank you for sharing all of this! It’s refreshing to see people share costs and realities of their build experiences. Hope you enjoy all the work you’ve done, it looks absolutely stunning, bravo!!
I’m so thankful my son inlaw has a pool and excavation company , your pool is beautiful enjoy , living here in central Florida is great to enjoy the sunshine
Thanks for sharing all the detailed info and costs. I will soon have a large backyard that needs to be completely landscaped. We will be having a pool and spa put in as well as other elements.
It is absolutely our plan to have a video specifically about the landscaping costs coming soon. It has just been a challenge to find time to get it recorded!
This was incredibly useful! We're installing a 20x40 rectangular pool (plus spa) here in Texas and received a quote of $133K, all-inclusive. It doesn't cover the stunning rock waterfall, but aside from that, and not considering the damages you had to address, our pool design is somewhat simpler. I believe our figures are quite comparable. This video has given me the confidence to proceed. Thanks Amy!
Excellent video, one of best and most informative on internet. You two should do informational videos full time! Built my house in 1994 and added a pool upon completion. It was 16x32 with 6 person jacuzzi, spillway, in ground cleaning system, salt system, 1000sf of decking and a screen room. It cost $22,000! Getting ready to build new house and budgeting $75k, but doing basic small pool and doing rest myself.
Thank you for sharing the numbers . ....looking to buy a home and build my backyard oasis in a few years so it helps to have an idea of all the costs involved.
Thank you for sharing. I just spent $134K on a Fiberglass Pool and Spa. I did add extras like bubblers, led lights, a cascade waterfall with waterbowls. I thought it may have been too much but after watching your video, it seems about right. Again, Thanks for your transparency! Great Video!😊
Hi, great video! I love your decking. Quick question: what material are your pavers made of? The tile vendor mentioned that "paver" is somewhat of a generic term and could refer to limestone, travertine, concrete, etc
Thank you for the video. We've watched it many times, sat down with Jake for a second time yesterday, and his design for us very close to yours, but flipped. You're coming up on two years. Besides maybe going larger on the tanning shelf, is there anything you'd do different? Still happy with the pavers? We were going to do textured concrete vice pavers because of the maintenance. Then last night we were sold on pavers.. today we're back to textured concrete. LoL ugh. -Brad
Thank YOU for this Amazing Video!! I LOVE how you did not leave out anything and be transparent !! This helps SO much! We had our pool just built , ours also came to about $155,000 , that is with artificial turf around pool and gazebo from Costco . Great Video wish there were more like this ! It helped a lot !
Interesting video, my parents have a nice large backyard and never wanted a pool saying the cost and hassle was just too much. I understand now what they meant as $175k pool is about double my house which I bought in 2005. I live in a small house with a verry tiny yard and there is a nice community pool so I have never thought about it personally. Recently, visiting a friend who has a home near Cocoa Beach on a canal close to the ocean put in a partially above ground pool, very nice, added concrete decking around it with nice landscaping. I asked why not an in-ground pool and he said that would have been $70,000+ and I thought he was exaggerating, but now I see he was not. They actually dug down, so a third of the pool is underground and two-thirds above ground. Their pool, concrete decking, landscaping, pumps, extras was all done for about $23,000 and looks great, so you don't have to spend a small fortune to get something you are happy with and enjoy. This is good to know as I search for my next home in 2026. A pool isn't a deal breaker for me but if I see a home that already has a freeform pool at a good price, I now understand the value of having that.
Nice video & that y'all moved from Virginia to Florida 👍😎👍I moved from Maryland to rural Lafayette Louisiana area. My neighbor had a pool built since 2020 when their house was built. My house was built in 2016 I am the 3rd owner.
Thank you for a great video with so much information. I had no idea all that went into building a pool. My neighbors here in Los Angeles did a prefabricated one, so a big hole was dug, and a crane came into our cul de sac and popped it in. It was quite a production. Your pool looks fabulous and I'm sure you'll get many years of enjoyment out of it. Worth every penny.
Thank you for sharing. I really appreciate the transparency. At least I know now what it takes to get something beautiful like what you have. Congratulations on your beautiful home and pool!
Beautiful pool and landscape! Compared to prices here in New York I'm actually impressed. Cost of pavers and coping are much more expensive here. Maybe I need to move to Florida!
Thank you for the detailed info! My husband and I live in FL and are considering upgrading to an in ground pool (we have an above ground on a low deck currently which is great for now) we appreciate this information 😊
Nice looking pool but so tiny though to actually swim in to exercise. 3:59 Wonder if it's more expensive to make those fancy curves instead of a longer rectangle pool that would extend close to both ends of the paver decking.
We designed it so there is a 35 foot long swim lane on the diagonal which is pretty big for a backyard poll. Our pool builder told us it was more expensive to do the curves, but we have since heard from others that they were charged more for "geometric"
Awesome vid and pool! A backyard Oasis just makes your home that much bigger and can generate family and friends your way. Definitely a great way to get everyone together
I appreciate this video so much! I've been trying to find content relating to pool build in Florida and this was it. I've been calling pool companies around the Orlando area and you never know what to expect. I appreciate your insight and transparency!
Wow! I can see why you had some reservations making this video. You can't take that money with you when you pass away, so enjoy the fruits of your hard work and labor while you can. That is an amazing home and pool you have there in one of the most desirable areas to live in Orlando. I am so proud of you both for all the hard work and deciding to do something for yourselves that you are enjoying most of the year. I consider that a great view by the way. Well done Amy and Eric, loved the total breakdown at the end, as well as the transparancy of the unexpected costs. So glad you got the pool of your dreams. Looking forward to meeting you in a few months. Happy Holidays!💌
This was the conclusion my wife and I came up with when deciding on a pool. Enjoy life while you can, and you can’t take any of the money with you when you leave. It’s an enormous amount of money we are spending, but this is something we’ve been deliberating for years about. Now we are about 6 months away from having a lovely 18x38 concrete pool in our backyard to create lots of family memories. Kudos to you all on designing such a fabulous pool!
Great video thank you. Im planning on having a fancy pool built in my garden, I live in Germany and finding someone to build it for me might be difficult as most companies build rectangular pools not free form. I might also go for a large greenhouse over the top to trap the heat as the pool can still be cold in the summer.
Thank you sooooo much for sharing , it can be so frustrating trying to google every little detail. Really really appreciate your Transparency, you have no idea how much this helps! Thanks 😊
Looks great. Fantastic video. Very informational. Although I would like to know any upkeep cost estimates now that you've had your pool. If you are willing to share them.
Great video! Thank you for being transparent, love the pool! We are looking at houses at WaterLeigh on Friday. Between Laureate, Oakland Park, and Horizon West-Waterleigh it’s going be be a hard choice. Really feeling the North Haven floor plan.
🙋 You know... I'm here to help! I have a GREAT history in getting the inside scoop at Waterleigh. Call or text me if you'd like me to help you find the perfect home! 407-848-8042 LOOOOOVE the North Haven... but they don't currently have any available under construction. When they DO have some, they will likely be at "highest and best offer" stage... so you definitely want a good strategy!
I am kind of mind blown at the cost nowadays! Had my free form 24000 gallon pool built with a 2800 sqft travertine deck for 84k from Artesian pool in Winter Garden. This was 2017 so different times.
Yea in 2019 I had a 18 x 36 grecian with the top step a 8 ft sun shelf *making total pool 42 ft long, Pavers all around and a cage twice the size a the pool. Total 55K yes I had a heater lights bubblers and streamers. In Punta Gorda. Tropical Pools Great Guy
It took about a year, but that's not really typical right now. In the middle of our construction process a hurricane hit one of the places where they make a lot of the stuff we needed. :(
You guys are awesome story tellers. We are physicians from Brazil and our house in currently rented. We might be moving up to winter garden next year. Enjoying a lot your 2 hour video of the purchase of the “holiday home”. We also fell in love with the floor plan😅 Hope you have a great weekend
Your pool is beautiful. We live in WG too and picking pavers this week. Debating cream/beige vs cream/beige/charcoal. What color is your coping? I just want a copy paste of your pool 😊
Really great video. Helpful. I have several questions. 1. How much do you feel this will increase the value of your house? Will you be able to recoup that amount upon selling the house? Hard question to answer but you are a realtor and there must be some guidelines in this area. 2. Did you pay cash for the pool or is it financed? If financed, you need to also add in the total cost of the interest paid to the bank as a cost of the pool. 3. Is there a guideline for how much should be spent on a pool as a percentage of the value of the house before the pool is installed? 4. $175,000 is a lot of money. Are there other things to bring joy and happiness, togetherness and promote love between family and friends that would be less expensive but provide the same amount effectiveness as the pool? 5. Is there any wisdom in selling your house and buying a house that already has a pool?
Hi Rob! Thanks for the questions! 1. An appraiser will usually give you 50% value or less for the value of the pool So dollar for dollar, that's probably what we increased the price of the house by... about half of what we paid. BUT, the hidden benefit can be that homes this size are expected to have a pool for resale. So while it added 50% in value... it also probably made us a bit more money if we re-sell it because there would be a "penalty" for NOT having a pool. I hope that makes sense.
2. We paid cash. Most new construction builders do not let you finance the cost of the pool into the home because of the issue in question #1... The home might not appraise for the financed value... so the buyer may not qualify. The other reason we don't recommend building with a builder is that you are already paying a mark-up from the pool contractor... then the builder adds their own mark-up on top of that so you can get a lot more pool by doing it after the fact. Most pool companies offer financing.
3. I'm not sure there is a guideline as a percentage because most pools are going to cost around $100,000+ whether you put them behind a $300,000 home or a $1 million home. BUT if it is helpful to think of it that way, I would recommend not spending more than 20% of the value of the home on the pool. So... for a $300,000 home, maybe do something simpler for around $60,000... for a $1 million home you'd be at $200,000.
4. Well right there you've asked the key question at the heart of our worry. :). I guess for us, the ideas of joy/happiness/togetherness are priceless, honestly so it is hard to put a dollar value on them. BUT... I think the real answer is OF COURSE! You don't need money for those things at all. One of the things that has surprised us is how much we enjoy the pool area with family but also how much we love being there alone at night... it is so peaceful. Eric just floats out there some times and it is so good for his heart.
5. Definitely, Mr. Great Questions! What you lose is the ability to design it yourself... but you gain EVERYTHING else and for half the price! An older home can sometimes come with some repair and maintenance costs that can be not great... but overall buying a home with an existing pool is the best of all most everything. Thanks so much for your comment and questions!
Hi. That was an excellent video. Very well done. We are new to northeast Florida and just finished construction on our saltwater pool. It’s rectangular, 25ft x 15ft with an 8ft x 8ft sun shelf. The deck has 6 feet of pavers on two sides, and 9ft of pavers on two sides. So it’s a pretty big deck. Like you, we did the light blue plaster and we have multicolored LED lights. Total cost for the pool alone was $86K. As a realtor and having just gone through this, can you tell me if made out OK?
I’m curious on how much this is compared to the cost of the house prior to the build? How much is your house house worth now (Redfin or Zillow estimate)?
Zillow doesn't really factor pools. Honestly, the biggest way to move your "Zestimate" is to list your home for sale. They pretty much switch the Zestimate to within 95-98% of the list price as soon as you list it. In terms of "true value", an appraiser will generally give 30-50% of the cost of the pool in value back into the home. BUT, there is also the fact that a home of a certain size and price can't command a certain price if it DOESN'T have a pool (if that makes sense). So it increases the value in other ways. We figure we gained $80,000 - $100,000 in value increase + expectations of a home this size.
Gorgeous pool, and yes Everything costs soooo much more in California. Just equipment itself is costing us 22k and its only a 14000 gallon pool with water features and spa . This pool in California right now is about 250k with all the landscaping. So much more expenses we didn't anticipate. So this video is awesome for people looking to build. Its sooo exciting the whole process though. I love it so far. But its pretty pricey for the excitement
One really important thing that is not in the video because we didn't know it yet. We LOOOOVE the pool area so much! We haven't thought about the cost once since we were able to start using it! :)
Thanks for your input. Informative and educational. Our pool is having a lot of work as well. Inground pool 25k gallon here in Virginia. Luckily it's preexisting. Crazy cost for upgrades. 🤔🏳🙄🍹
@@HeartandHomeOrlando We may be at our Wyndham Bonnett Creek Resort in Orlando in December and January for the snowbirds season. If we make it we'll give a call.😎

i appreciate the behind the scenes commentary on a pool installation . so rare for people to give honest information.

how much does the contractor owner pocket after all expenses paid?

We designed it so there is a 35 foot long swim lane on the diagonal which is pretty big for a backyard poll. Our pool builder told us it was more expensive to do the curves, but we have since heard from others that they were charged more for "geometric"
Absolutely beautiful..thanks for sharing your experience
very informational and great pacing and editing, thank you for putting this together
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome vid and pool! A backyard Oasis just makes your home that much bigger and can generate family and friends your way. Definitely a great way to get everyone together
For sure!!
Great pool and thanks for sharing your experience of building the pool!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I appreciate this video so much! I've been trying to find content relating to pool build in Florida and this was it. I've been calling pool companies around the Orlando area and you never know what to expect. I appreciate your insight and transparency!
Glad it was helpful! That's why we did it!!!
Your honesty and information and the way you presented it truly professional enjoy your pool!!!
Thank you so much 😊
Great video and excellent reminder to people regarding ALL the "associated," costs! Would love to do this someday! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
I appreciate your video very much. I am about to build a pool and this was so helpful. Thank you for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
Wow thank you for putting this together. This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for sharing
Glad it was helpful!
WOW! What a lovely comment. Thank you so much! See you soon!
Thanks 😊
That makes us very happy! Glad it was helpful!
Fabulous video, very informative and very much needed on my end. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Looks great. Fantastic video. Very informational. Although I would like to know any upkeep cost estimates now that you've had your pool. If you are willing to share them.
We're going to do a video on that soon!
Thx for sharing the ins and outs of building, looks beautiful wishing many years of enjoyment 👍🍀🎄
Thank you so much!
That’s crazy! Appreciate the transparency. Looks awesome.
Thanks so much!
thank you for sharing. This video was so helpful! It is beautiful.
Thank you so much!
I am kind of mind blown at the cost nowadays! Had my free form 24000 gallon pool built with a 2800 sqft travertine deck for 84k from Artesian pool in Winter Garden. This was 2017 so different times.
Yes! It has (like everything) gotten pretty crazy. Our very small freeform pool in 2014 was $24,000 including a screen!
Good video ... what was the end-to-end timeline?
It took about a year, but that's not really typical right now. In the middle of our construction process a hurricane hit one of the places where they make a lot of the stuff we needed. :(
This is gorgeous and well deserved! Enjoy!❤
Thank you so much!!
Very informative thank you all for sharing it is absolutely beautiful
Our pleasure!
Very nice!! By the way, is your floor plan a Yorkshire from mattamy?
We very well might be neighbors😂
Yes!
You guys are awesome story tellers. We are physicians from Brazil and our house in currently rented. We might be moving up to winter garden next year.
Enjoying a lot your 2 hour video of the purchase of the “holiday home”.
We also fell in love with the floor plan😅
Hope you have a great weekend
We arwe about to start our pool. Very helpful, thanks, BTW my Wife is also a realtor.
Best of luck!
Great video! What material are your pavers?
They are Flagstone pavers... so whatever that is! 😀
Your pool is beautiful. We live in WG too and picking pavers this week. Debating cream/beige vs cream/beige/charcoal. What color is your coping? I just want a copy paste of your pool 😊
I don’t need a pool but this was a very informative, entertaining and well put together video
Thanks so much!
Great video, thank you for sharing.
Excellent video! Very very well made ❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Loved this video. You both provided very clear and informative information. You both made me laugh.
Thanks so much!
Hi is Lori over here in PA love watching your videos I love that house it's so beautiful
Great video guys!
Thank you for this video. I’ve always dreamed of my own inground pool. This video helps to know what it would take to just dream of a budget.
So glad it was helpful!!!
Great video. Super helpful.
It seems to me that you did VERY well! What you describe for your pool is being quoted at least $110,000 here!
@@HeartandHomeOrlando thank you so much. I appreciate the info!!!
Great video!! I am in the process of getting pool construction quotes and believe me guys this video explains a lot of my questions. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Fantastic job guys, thanks for the info! Pool looks amazing!
You are very welcome!
You mentioned at the end about making a similar video for home building process. I couldn't find it on your channel, maybe i misunderstood?
We actually did a series, but we put them all together in this video: ruclips.net/video/orSs-J5jhDY/видео.html
The best perfect informative video divided into 5 segments 🤔
Glad it was helpful!
Appreciate your transparency. We are reviewing proposals and this helped tremendously.
So glad it helped!
Thanks for your input. Informative and educational. Our pool is having a lot of work as well. Inground pool 25k gallon here in Virginia. Luckily it's preexisting. Crazy cost for upgrades. 🤔🏳🙄🍹
That's a BIG pool!!!! Hang in there and focus on the 🍹. :)
@@HeartandHomeOrlando 😂 will do.
@@HeartandHomeOrlando We may be at our Wyndham Bonnett Creek Resort in Orlando in December and January for the snowbirds season. If we make it we'll give a call.😎
Incredibly helpful video. Well thought out and greatly appreciated! I'm in Ocoee and we are looking at pool options as well.
Glad we could help! Our Pool Company was Pools By Bradley… Jake was our designer and designed just what we wanted!!!
This was amazing and very well detailed.
Can you do more videos, giving us updates such as the cost to maintain it, electricity costs, etc
we are absolutely planning on it! Coming soon, we promise!
Thank you for this video! It’s very well put together! I live about 10 minutes away from winter garden
Glad you enjoyed it, neighbor!
Awesome video!! Enjoy the Beautiful pool and pool area!! 💃🥰
