Weird isn't it. Courtney who started out as a sorta nice girl with a bit of an ego who wanted to win and turned into a selfish monster who cheated and manipulated others to win. Meanwhile, Heather started out as a selfish monster who cheated and manipulated others to win and turned into a sorta nice person with a bit of an ego who wanted to win. It's like Courtney was given the Anakin Skywalker character arc while Heather was given the Vegeta character arc.

In a slight defense towards Heather , as far as I could tell, she never did a reckless, selfish borderline idotic stunt that nearly put others at risk. Akin to Vegeta letting Cell become perfect for a better fight or purposely becoming a Majin to goad Goku to fight him despite it bring what brings Buu back as Misterfision talks about in his Dragonball Dissection in Cell arc and Buu arc part 12s . Or Discord abiet for more selfless reasons but disgusting himself as Grogar and reuniting 3 villains Queen Crystlist, Tirek and Cozy Glow to attack Twilight to gain her confidence wasn't a smart move as Misantropny said on her channel . As far as I can tell Heather never had a Majin or Grogar moment

I think from Courtney's perspective, she tried being polite and respectful and following all the rules only to get voted off by someone cheating in the game. So she felt she was entitled to the win and a fair shot at the money and refused to accept her own shortcomings. Her best redemption would actually come from NOT winning the money but instead taking her loss maturely and realizing that her relationships are more important than the game

    • @mrreyes5004

Okay, see, this is why I prefer actual friggin' _fanfiction_ over what the TD writers did to the characters; seriously, just read "Change of Plans" by JoeMerl and/or "Candy For Your Thoughts?" by Strix Moonwing. Even though only the latter is finished, they both did _so_ much more justice to Courtney's character (specifically right around the time the Courtney-Duncan-Gwen bs popped off after "Greece's Pieces" in TDWT) and do so almost exactly the way you mentioned - her remembering her promise to play _politely, with integrity_ and most of all that the people around her take priority over a big pile of green paper. I know fanfiction gets a bad rep for being cringy and amateur-level storytelling (not entirely unfounded, I admit) but these stories subverted that expectation entirely and actually treat characters like Courtney with the respect she's been deserving for the last decade and a half.

Season 1 Courtney would not be proud of who she’s become. And while I don’t think the writers had any deep reasonings for it, I at least like to think that Total Drama broke her. For the first time in her life she’s in a situation where rules are basically thrown out the window. Total Drama is the one thing she can’t conquer and her need to conquer it has pretty much become an addiction and taken her over.

I know her character isn’t all about her romances. But I can’t help but think how interesting it would be if Courtney started dating Trent. She wants to become a lawyer, his father is a lawyer, she loves to sing, Trent is a musician. They both can relate to feeling wronged by Duncan and Gwen. Courtney can teach Trent to be more selfish and not such a push over like how he gave up challenges for Gwen. Trent can teach Courtney how to chill and channel her emotions into songs.

I don't see this ship working. I find really uninteresting, lazy and boring (The same can be said about Gwuncan) . And it's certainly not a good way to fix the infamous and hated "Love" Triangle. The only thing this attempt would do is rise the tensions even more. Also, Courtney and Trent talked like 3 times to each other. I prefer Duncney (Island) and Gwent (Island) all the way.

I am not one to endorse the shipping aspect of TD, but I always thought it would be hilarious to see Courtney go steady with Trent, too. But, after doing more harm than good with his character, I can see why they wouldn’t want to bring back Trent. I think that particular character has been played out and as badly written as he can possibly take. Which is terribly unfortunate because Trent was made out to be a character that we all wanted to genuinely cheer for in season one.

reyfan011 This.... is... interesting🤭. I also at one point thought about this. Though I thought about like if the two ever went out, it mostly be out of pity; considering these two have limted interactions with eachother. I can see them being friends on a nuetral or mutual understanding. Courtney at first in the aftermath wanted to side with everyone calling him a "loser by choice" but when Trent explains about the number 9 related to his grandfather Courtney wanted to change her answer. In addition she got emotinal like Katie and Sadie did when he played a song in the aftermath about the breakup. I really think there's a lot about Courtney we don't know about or the writers never explain.
My theory about Courtney is this:
      1. Fact: she only mentions her mother in the series
Theory: He parents got a divorced possibly may have been the fact that her father wouldn't change certain tendecies about himself to help support his family. Leading into the next fact.
      2. Fact: Courtney attempts to "change" Duncan.
Backtrack: Courtney found Duncan attractive enough to kiss in season 1.
Theory: Courtney misguided attempts to "change" him was not for his looks. She misinterprets this as she actually wants Duncan to be more faithful and true to her and her feelings and not flirt with other girls while the two were dating. Though because Duncan is a badboy and no one can tell him what to do Courtney's fear ends up being a reality; the fear that she can't control him. (Kinda wish Dawn became more of prominent character to unveil about Courtney's actual past)
Evidence: Courtney points out in season 2 how Duncan was quick to flirt and bond with Gwen.( even during the fact that Gwen and Trent was still dating) so Courtney pretty much became toxic to Duncan in season 2 due to the fact of his disloyalty.
Backtracking #2 Harold eliminates Courtney. Lindsay tells Courtney in Haute-Campture no one didn't like her that much. These moments possibly led to think that Courtney never actually made any friends and when it came to episode 27 in season 1 she wanted the million for herself( possibly with the thought that Duncan could leave her for the million though this is kinda what happened in Duncan's finale in season 2 and Courtney actually wanted to win season 2. )So she comes back to season 2 with the hopes of being catered like heather was in season 1. Since while remebering what Lindsay has said she decides to make everyone her competion including teammates. Courtney is an excellent strategist but I do feel like she was robbed her chances of winning a season.
Overall, I felt like Courtney just wanted to win and the fact that she might've had a dark past where she always in some way loses in her life just saddens me😔

I feel like the turn point was when the whole being bad is cool thing in season one and getting kicked off. Those were two big points in s1 for her which turned her this way, and when she didn’t get what she was working hard for, she turned “evil”. In which I feel like someone in later seasons should’ve talked about her getting kicked of unfairly or stood up for her. Maybe if the whole Duncan thing didn’t get out as fast as it did in s3 maybe Courtney could’ve talked to team Amazon about how she felt and maybe shine some light on why she became the narcissistic person. Courtney is a trademark enneagram three. And a very unhealthy one at that. Her self worth is based on how successful she is, and how many people see that success. She doesn’t believe she is lovable on her own. So she must be loved for her accomplishments. I’m betting her parents had the mentality of, “if you do right, you can have anything you want.” She was only loved whenever she did well. And she only received gifts when she did well. I’m assuming that’s why she would lose it whenever things didn’t go her way. “I did everything right! Why can’t I be praised already?!” She’s so divided on being a winner she lost touch with the reality of people. After a few betrayals and her subconscious realization that she couldn’t handle people, I’m betting she gave up on trying to receive validation from her crew for the most part. Shifting on trying to obtain validation from the audience of the show. Thus becoming backstabbing and heartless to those around her. How the audience sees her, and her desired victory at the end was all that mattered to her. Underneath the facade, Courtney is also extremely emotional. She doesn’t know what to do with said emotions. So when she feels like she gets betrayed, that’s all she can focus on. She also can’t handle feelings of guilt or messing up. She has to be perfect to be loved. If she makes mistakes, then she isn’t worth anything. Developing some narcissistic tendencies to combat this fear. I’m sort of rambling at this point. My main point: Courtney went from bad mental health, to worse mental health, and that can happen to anyone. It’s sad, and everyone deserves redemption at the end of the day.

Courtney is undoubtedly one of the more intelligent characters to enter the TD fray. However, her biggest downfall, at the end of the day, is that she always has to put herself first - which always blows up in her face. She cannot help but scheme and think that she’s superior than everyone around her. And it’s well-established, by now, that Courtney isn’t particularly good at making friends. If she would actually take time to be considerate and take the higher ground . . . than she should have a solid chance to win a TD season, but she has yet to prove she can do that. Her friendship with Gwen could even extend to a friendship with Zoey, and she could’ve even had gone into the finals with the dilema of winning the money or try and save Mike (as a correct CIT would do).
Even if they wanted to keep her as a semi villain (I say this because even if she was antagonistic in TDA, she didn’t outright do horrible things like Heather or Alejandro), they could’ve given her a sort of Yzma - Kronk relationship with Scott. So many missed opportunities.

I actually thought Courtney's parents may have had a lot to do with her behavior. Considering her wanting to make lists of things to change about guys she dates, she might be following the only example she's known: her parents. One idea I personally think could be a possibility is that Courtney lives with a single mother. Maybe her father abandoned them, which could also have something to do with Courtney's taste in guys. First a juvenile delinquent, Duncan, and then, the "scheming farmboy" Scott, as you put it. Both Duncan and Scott are portrayed as villains in the show, and Courtney has dated them both. So maybe this taste she has for villainous boys could be a way for her to cope with her father's possible absence. Something else is that Courtney's father could be present in her life, but also be involved in criminal activities. And maybe that's part of why Courtney has so many lawyers and a taste for villainous boys. Most of all, maybe the way both of her relationships with Duncan and Scott went was because Courtney was following her parents' example. Sort of like what you said about Jade in your video on her. Maybe Courtney is controlling in relationships because that's what she views as normal because of the example she grew up with.

If she didn't create a ridiculous 32 page letter of being the "Perfect BF," her relationship with Duncan would've gone smooth. Ok, she doesn't know how a relationship works, but she still loves Duncan. I know deep down she is a good person, but the writers just made her to a bitch. I'm sorry, but that what I feel. I just feel so sorry for her. She needs a redemption. I really want her back with the Duncan.

Heather never bargained with peoples lives, and she never used any unfair advantages, Heather was just catty and manipulative, Courtney was outwardly violent, condescending, and used outside resources to gain an unfair advantage.

You do an excellent job pointing out the aspects of Courtney's personality that set her up for her descent into villainy.
Beyond the points you made, I think that a lot of Courtney's development as a character is shaped by the people around her -- most of all, Duncan.
Duncan finds her competitiveness, her passion, and her temper attractive (at least early on, before he becomes disillusioned and tired of being in an abusive relationship), and thus encourages those traits. He also persuades her to break out of the strict set of behavioral guidelines that she imposes on herself for the first 11 episodes of the show. This is a TERRIBLE combination, because Courtney has a really hard time distinguishing between "rules that can be broken without consequence" and "basic human decency," and once she stops operating by the book she's defined almost entirely by her fiery passion and need for everything to be perfect, with nothing left to hold those traits in check. That's why she's such a monster in season 2.
I think that Courtney's fallen so far that she'd be harder to redeem than almost any other character (exceptions: Mal, Sugar, Scarlett, Amy, maybe Blaineley, and of course Chris). However, I do believe that it could be done. If we're discussing how to go about redeeming Courtney, here are my suggestions:
Step 1: Put her in a relatively low-key season; something more like season 1 than seasons 4-6, where a) not every episode is deadly, b) violence isn't directly encouraged, and c) rule-flouting antagonists like Heather and Jo comprise less than 15% of the contestants.
Step 2: Don't give her or anyone else special treatment. At least, no more special treatment than the kind Lindsay sometimes gets. Also, impose consequences for cheating.
Step 3: Make sure that Duncan, Gwen, and Harold are nowhere to be seen. ESPECIALLY not Duncan. If you must include Gwen or Harold, put them on a different team than Courtney and limit their interactions with her as much as possible.
Step 4: Pair her up with characters who can coax her better qualities back out. My personal favorite candidates are Bridgette and Brick.
Bridgette is the only character left on Total Drama that Courtney has befriended WITHOUT later burning bridges with. She's one of the show's most normal characters: a lot like season 3 Gwen (aka the Gwen that Courtney befriended) in temperament, but calmer, gentler, and more idealistic. She's not an idiot or weakling that Courtney can push around or dismiss, which means that there's a chance of Courtney actually listening to her advice. In "Basic Straining," Bridgette was approving of Courtney's newfound looseness, but also advised her to exercise moderation, which is exactly what she needed. She would encourage Courtney to chill out, and to be compassionate and reasonable.
Also worth noting: since a) Bridgette's relationship with Geoff is the most stable, perfectly-matched relationship on the show, and b) I can't imagine Courtney being interested in Geoff under any circumstances, the chances of Bridgette becoming a romantic rival for Courtney like Gwen did are almost zero. (I can only see it happening if both girls are on a team with Alejandro and neither Geoff nor Heather is competing.)
Brick would also be a fantastic friend, ally, sidekick, and possible love interest for Courtney. He would respond readily to Courtney's attempts to take charge, which would put him on her good side. He pairs the by-the-book attitude Courtney once had with the physical resilience and kindly nature of Tyler and Owen. Like Bridgette, he would encourage Courtney to do the right thing and look out for others, but his more orderly mindset means that he's more likely to say it in a way that resonates with Courtney.
Step 5: Make sure that Courtney's team wins a majority of challenges in the early part of the season. That way, she's less likely to be voted off early on for being insufferable, which will give her more time to become the person we want her to be.
These, I believe, would be the optimal conditions for a Courtney redemption arc. If there's no external pressure on her to be fierce and mean, and if she doesn't start off the season already wanting revenge on someone, then she'll be more open to being influenced by good people, and thus more likely to become a good person once again.

    • @augustrempelewert4377
      @augustrempelewert4377 3 года назад +1

      @@RandomSkyeRoses That's a really good question.
Straight-up on-purpose murder by her own hand? Probably not. If she got her hands on Duncan or Gwen at the height of her anger at them, I can see her beating them to a bloody pulp, but I feel like she'd probably stop before the point of inflicting lethal damage. Let me know if you disagree.
But a manslaughter-type situation, where she puts someone in a life-or-death situation and then stands back to watch? Yes. Definitely. She's already come close on multiple occasions.
In "Total Drama Drama Drama Drama Island," there's a moment where Owen, Tyler, DJ, and Cody are dangling from Courtney's hot-air balloon, and she threatens to let them fall to their deaths if they don't give her the million-dollar case. In "Dial M for Merger," she has the only quick escape from a building that's set to explode, and she says she'll only let the others escape with her if they all promise to split the prize money with her if they win. In "The Princess Pride," she knocks Justin off the top of a tower, causing him to be badly injured. I'm pretty sure there are more examples too.
Courtney isn't a killer yet, but she's violent when angry and terrifyingly ruthless when someone gets between her and something she wants.

Duncan was who kissed Gwen, and that made the girls friendship sink, because a mistake, a mistake that accidently happens in TDAS with Cameron, where we have a Courtney seeing the other side. Gwen genuines tried made them friends again and it was working very well. Until well, Courtney prioritizes the game as everyone should do when we are in final 5 duh. She is not being the annoying cheater from S2 or Obcessive girl from S3, she was back to s1 good character but with a bit of heather. You can say that going for original plan she would be in the finals but would she win? Against Scott the odds would be in favor, she cared abt him less than she cared abt gwen so se could manipulate him and win, while against gwen would be a fair and harder game. Well i like to believe she indeed voted in herself in the end of the episode to prove that she and gwen are in good terms now, you see that she was with doubts abt that instead of a "why would i do that?", she is not perfect, she has flaws but i think she got redemption and genuines wants gwen as a friend

Super disappointed what they did to Courtney. I loved her in season one, especially her and Duncan's relationship. After that they made her super toxic and unlikeable. I still root for her (I am about to move on to Allstars) but I keep getting let down. Her character really did take a downward spiral. I find myself cheering for Heather now. Heather really became likable while Courtney just became awful.

She was one of my favorite characters, but Action and All Stars ruined her which is sad because she was such a unique character
I loved her interactions with Lindsay, Gwen, Bridgette and ESPECIALLY DUNCAN
*Also Duncney forever, I love them so much and I wish they never got ruined :D* 🌈🦄💖

Same. The reboot of season 1 might not have the og cast but I think season 2 will have some of the og cast. So I hope Courtney and Duncan are there. And ur right duncney needs to be fixed. And Gwent of course.

I still hate Harold for what he did. If you want to get back at your bully, you attack their gf?? That's so gross on so many levels. Incel Harold should've never existed and stayed on the drawing board. And Duncan was never that great of a guy, idc what the shippers say.
