I continued down with… I think only a small amount of help from the playthrough. The water level puzzle and the planet alignment puzzle (I may have the stupid tbh). But anyhow… I continued down and on. By now some memories are blurry. But when I found Falke holding the owl lockbox sound thing… I was confused. The Radio of the "Eulenlieder" chilled me. The kolobris were so terrifying. I also found the Ara in the vent. She puzzles me still. I eventually went to nowhere and encountered Erica again. With troubles of course. I remember dying once or twice in the rooms just full of replicas. Anyhow…. I kept going, confused by the many symbols. 512 repeating and then finally encountering the beginning again. Walking past Adler and then seeing the many bodies once more. And then finally the Penrose. I had seen a video partially about the game before. So the scene with the many Elsters wasn’t unfamiliar to me. By now I was just curious and so entirely full of questions… Ok this should have been boring enough for anyone who was still reading and didn’t know the game to have left by now. I was shocked when Elster broke her arm. I was so ready to see the end and then… she fails. None of my questions answered. And then the menu screen killed me… the eye. I was so in denial i immediately entered again and….. things were off. It felt brighter and so I explored… the ship seemed… fine. "I Hope i Never have to use this" and other remarks so instinctively familiar yet emotionally charged by Elster in a ship previously described so cold. Blank facts in the intro. "A picture depicting Ariane young". The envelope still closed on the desk about how to deal with LSTR units. I opening it gave me more questions. But after the checklist was done.. I understood partially… they danced and seemed so happy… Elster and Ariane… Just.. dancing to a familiar song.. and then the cut off after the two fell asleep in bed… discordant familiar music. And an Elster who failed on the floor in the snow or desert. A sickly looking Ariane looking down at her… by then I didn’t know her name entirely… but now I do… "remember our promise" followed by Elster Waking up and entering… a broken ship. Making her way to the cryo chamber to do what I assumed would be fulfill her promise… and then… the sight of flesh and a dead armored Elster. Yet another one who failed before me. Seeing her armor herself and fix herself using another her… god… I Must fulfill that promise. At all costs… I stormed rotfront like I was an Angel of death. Only the areas I could. Perpetually low on Ammo. Yet always managing. Just enough flares… the many cards. The dials. And a familiar marking on the wall.. through it a familiar office. Inside this small hole in the wall of… how the hell did I get here? I eventually solved the puzzles. Saw the itou book store and… Erika… giving up… succumbing to her illness… this game was a rollercoaster. I understood a bit more of her situation. If only little. I followed the hallway. Confused by the many notes. Some explained a bit. Others didn’t.. I’m just now noticing how much I’m skipping over. The sweet mynah in the mines… the encounter between Adler and Erica before nowhere. Cigarette wife. Honestly it’s all feeling just as out of place as the game did. Which, to me, feels poetic. Another familiar depiction yet again slightly different. Another cycle. I first turned around. I had the safe (saves actually) after all. I found Adlers Office.kept going and encountered Falke. I wouldn’t let her stop me. I had all the weapons I needed. A pistol, a revolver and a rifle. A promise had taken me as far to try and take out what is essentially an artificial god…. I died so many times. I thought about giving up. But I wouldn’t let that stop me. No god can keep me from saving her… eventually she fell. 6 spears. And finally I could continue. Only Adler in my way now… waiting atop the stairs. As the music was raising. Finally I will be able to embrace Ariane again… Once again… "you’ve returned… are you really willing to go through with this once more? You’ve seen what happens. This world cannot take much more. This may be our last chance." I hate Adler… not because of his character writing… but because of how much he stood against me… I fought god. And there he is. Calling me a selfish monster…. Despite the attack.. a Stab to the eye.. Elster perseveres. Despite the bleeding she keeps going. All the way to the Penrose 512.. once more…. I pray she gets inside this time. A dooming message… soon they should die… "don’t try to extend your suffering"… 3000 cycles only to be left behind to die… Ariane withering… and soon… Elster too… Over 5000 cycles… they lived for that long… elster dead in the corner of Arianes room… "I couldn’t keep my promise". Or something along those lines… time to make it right… but just what is my promise? What can I even do? There she is… I have come to remember my promise… and Ariane awakens… she knows me and calls my name… Elster can’t do it? Why not? We’re here aren’t we? We have to do it. Not quite - The Promise is based on the same piece (Chopin's Prelude 28-15) but I believe it has some subtle differences in the way it's played and arranged.
First time watching this: confused, intrigued. Pulled in by the mystery and what lies ahead. The second time, now with perspective: uncontrollably sobbing and crying T-T
There is a lot of symbolism regarding that painting in particular, one of the tracks in the OST is called Die Toteninsel (Emptiness) which is based on Rachmaninoff's composition whose name translates to "Isle of Death". Upon closer inspection, Signalis as a whole seems more like a collage of references, ideas and homages to different pieces of media with themes that are reflected in the story itself. In a way, the in-universe name for humans, "Gestalts", represents the game in relation to Gestalt psychology, wherein a "Gestalt" is a unit which has more value than the sum of its parts - like how Signalis is more than the references that comprise it. There's so much to this game, one would go mad trying to comprehend its spanning themes - much like The King in Yellow...
CONTROL, SOMA, now SIGNALIS. My favorite, most unnerving video games. To date. SIGNALIS is something else. It's presented in a very unique way, and it's intensely, painfully metaphysical. A love letter to early Resident Evil, Mulholland Drive, and H. P. Lovecraft. It crawled beneath my skin and won't leave. It's been weeks now and not a day goes by without thinking of Elster/LSTR/Magpie/Kasasagi. This game sticks with you. Seriously, the last time a video game story resonated with me so much is like a decade ago when SOMA was released. SIGNALIS is a fever dream realized and presented in the best possible way. Literally the only gripe I have with it is that the aim system sometimes takes a second to register a target, but fuck that, it's not a shooter anyway. It is a perfect video game and living proof that the medium can be an art form. To think 2 people have made it is beyond... words. I feel very lucky to have lived this long. It's a bittersweet thing to ponder. TLDR; beautifully painful video game.
After my first play through i noticed, that on book we can see the same 6 sigils from the ending. And that 20 numbers are not a random numbers but safe code for secret ending. Just wow
Might be reading too much into it but considering all the other Elsters we see along the way it seems likely that the short flash of the game over (fatal error) screen might be the first Elster, the one we control before this scene dying
@@Lubble- I clarified that i meant the one we control before this scene, not the true first Elster, that Elster is still stuck on the real penrose, collapsed on the floor

One of the greatest intros in gaming, with no context at all the sound alone made me want to cry on first playthrough.
lol, the ost is the same from Halo 3 "Believe" trailer, so cool.
One of thr flashing scenes is a famous painting "isle of death". 0:55
There's so much to this game, one would go mad trying to comprehend its spanning themes - much like The King in Yellow...
this game has been taking me 6 months so far to finish just one ending but holy snickerdoodles I love it so much
CONTROL, SOMA, now SIGNALIS.
TLDR; beautifully painful video game.
cant believe this game got me into classical music
After my first play through i noticed, that on book we can see the same 6 sigils from the ending. And that 20 numbers are not a random numbers but safe code for secret ending. Just wow
This game and Alan Wake 2 have the hardest title drops of any games in recent memory
This game single handily made me like classical music
Might be reading too much into it but considering all the other Elsters we see along the way it seems likely that the short flash of the game over (fatal error) screen might be the first Elster, the one we control before this scene dying
But the first Elster is dead?
@@Lubble- I clarified that i meant the one we control before this scene, not the true first Elster, that Elster is still stuck on the real penrose, collapsed on the floor
@@joule400 right well you did say the first Elster so that needed clarifying
This game is beautiful and scary at the same time
*Hears music*
I BELIEVE
**sees the King in Yellow**
God won't save us now...
