Honestly for 50$ I can probably pick up a 10$ potato phone from 3-5 years back and have a custom printed GG shell over bots of the screen to make it feel like a real game gear. At least sega is getting back into hardware, hopefully the Dreamcast mini is solid.
While existing is may good. But bringing some more innovation along with your products would be better. I really want Sega to come back full swinging. Oh well. 😊
For retro devices like this the audience tends to prefer regular batteries over rechargeable because it makes the system “last longer” without worrying about bad battery quality and expanding rechargeables. Plus with low end devices like this you can get fairly high battery life out of just a few AAA batteries so the trade off is beneficial in favor of old school standard batteries.
Consolizing would be fairly easy, given the already existing mods available (mcWill, Otaku,...) ok, Otaku’s is currently phased out unfortunately. Only because it is so tiny, it will be very difficult to fit it all in. But with TV out and a controller connector mod, i would be very happy. I also think it is too inconvenient and expensive, i want that new Aleste bundle that’s announced (brand new Aleste game, Aleste 3, on PS4 or Switch, an Aleste GG micro, and some goodies). But this one is even more rediculasly expensive (193 euro on Rakuten as it is shown now!!)
Either you have really big hands or these things are super tiny. Kinda disappointed they didn’t just do a to scale reproduction of the game gear with a bunch of titles like the recent micro console craze but these are pretty fun looking.
Is the magnifiying glass improving the screen size? From what i’ve heard on other unboxings, it’s not really doing anything/ or just a small improvement. Curious about your thoughts.
@Sega Sega called it a Game gear micro because you need a damn micro-scope to play it. I agree, would have bought a game gear mini if it was 40-50% sized but I say hell NO to any micro. I hope they make Sega Dreamcast mini with 10 games and wifi online DLC store and gameplay support. Sega was the first online game console, maybe a first game console mini online too.
@@Restalgia 😆 let's start a rumor that creates a fire 🔥 under sega's ass to make one. Maybe finally I won't mod my mini to play my favorite games this time if Sega has them available at online store. 💵
This looks adorable but the tiny screen is a deal breaker. Personally I prefer batteries in my electronics, there’s no good reason to prefer a rechargeable battery you can NEVER replace unless you don’t plan on using it in a few years.
How can stream my steam games from my PC to my 2019 VIZIO Smart TV? Is there a way I can install my steam games to my At Games Gamer Pro and then plug it in my TV if streaming isn't possible?
Что за кнопка внутри, к ней есть доступ из батарейного отсека, в виде отверстия, видимо reset... ) Интересно, кто нибудь пробовал использовать micro usb с otg кабелем, например воткнуть флешку или геймпад... )
I remember the Sega Game Gear i also remember how big it was. Pretty bulky in its original size. This Micro thing is very tiny. It almost reminds me of the Game Boy Micro which was slightly larger than the Game Gear Micro. And the fact that it comes with 4 games and there's 4 colored Game Gear Micros that come with 4 different games? Remember the Sega Genesis Mini? That was a good idea. A great mini console.
I managed to snag a used one boxed in near perfect condition for €20, tbh I find at that price it's well worth it, it is a novelty but I already love miniatures and I know in Japan they love their miniatures too so this is very nifty. Thankfully I'm shortsighted too or this would be a challenge but I find the screen resolution and brightness to look real sharp despite its tiny size.
I had a. Game gear as a kid i admit i was excited when hearing. A new game gear mini console was coming. But being this small i have big hands and this would be a. Pass for me
im disappointed that it is only 4 games on each, That and I can play all of these on my psp . If they made an English version that was bigger with the Shining Force games I would buy it.
Well I've got them coming as I'm a Sega fan, however it would truly be awesome if a mod was made for this thing. I believe their must be a way they can get around just swapping the 4 titles you get with it. However it's like you said, it's if they think it's worthwhile or not...oh well it is what it is.
I bought only the black one....With import fees and shipping it cost about 100$ CAD...It was worth it...Outrun as imperfect as it is, is addictive....I lament the poor game selection...I would have loved Space Harrier, Super Space Invaders, Galaga 91, Afterburner, or Panzer Dragoon Mini....Even G-Loc Air Battle....The System is quite playable....I play it everyday.....I also lament the poor battery life, if I play it frequently I have to recharge my batteries probably every 1 or 2 days.....I use rechargeable AAA’s with my GameGear Micro...
These seem kind of junky. I’m glad I didn’t let nostalgia talk me into this. A reasonably sized game gear made by Sega with 20 ish games...take all of my money. I can’t stop looking at how short you cut your nails
It awfully reminds me of those pocket sized keyboard + mice converters for mobile phones. if i were you i would have kept them as something gold, eventually it will be more expensive and harder to get that they will extinct in the future
Definitely wasted your money on this one. As an actual gaming console first, it falls flat. As a collector's item, it falls flat. Even as a novelty, it's not even that much of a curiosity to interest many folks. You said it best, only thing it's missing is a keychain, for the Japanese to latch onto their backpacks like they love doing. That's it's only true purpose as far as I can see. Probably would have fared better as a limited time gashapon toy with only one dedicated game per game gear color. Could've sold for up to $3-5 dollars and you'd have real incentive to try collecting all 16 colors or hoping RNG was in your favor to get the one game you wanted rather than dishing out $200 to never even play these things.
For myself, I don't see a reason to buy this. It's probably nice for Sega collectors, but it's not for me. If I wanted a small handheld I would buy the Anbernic RG280M.
Hey Steve, I am also Steve, owner of Tech Toy Tinker and Retro Arena. If you want to send me one of those I'll figure out how to mod it. Ehhhh I’ve been contemplating this for a while now and I think I’m gonna cough up the $83 on eBay to get the black one. Sonic 1&2 were the first games I ever played and I love small devices. And it’ll be something I can share with my future kids to show them a bit of my childhood. For sure shouldn’t cost that much but welcome to capitalism.
Just get the Sonic Classic Collection for Nintendo ds/3DS, which has all Sonic series from Genesis. If you can't afford a DS or 3DS, then get Genesis Ultimate Portable Game Player which is infinitely better handheld than this micro garbage for the same price.
It's a pass for me, and that's a first. I own every mini console so now it will be every mini console but one. It's just too small, too expensive and too few games.
I understand going back n time and making these. But won’t not even make this just a tad bigger. Plus wasting money in the dumb screen. 50 per is crazy. Even a inch would be better. Just to small for ppl that have big hands. Key chain novelty at best.
I think they're more a keychain novelty, somethhing to mess about with more than any legitmate retro mini console.
But a scale replica would be nice.
I agree, but at 50 USD a pop, its a tough sell for a Keychain accessory to me 😅
Honestly for 50$ I can probably pick up a 10$ potato phone from 3-5 years back and have a custom printed GG shell over bots of the screen to make it feel like a real game gear. At least sega is getting back into hardware, hopefully the Dreamcast mini is solid.
They’re more like something I’d enjoy playing on a plane or something.
looks more like collector display pieces than things you would use daily. A billion ways to play these games. Why bother on these microscopic screens.
I would be interested in a full size version of this, preferably with a rechargeable battery.
I can't complain about Sega releasing new hardware. The sole fact that this exists makes me happy.

I have one question though; What were they thinking? It's even worse than other handhelds you've reviewed before.
I was just bummed to find out I missed the 5 pack with display case.
Thanks for the review, Restalgia! Excellent job!

Are these the game gear or the master system version of games included ?
I would really love to own one but i couldn't import one!
Where can I buy the limited edition white one please ?
There was a white one?
Release on 24 dec
what would then be a fair price to pay for this?

They are extremely small even for a child.
Funny enough I gave it to my 7 year old and her exact words were "why's it so small???"
It theoretically can run Doom, yes, with a software renderer, if mods can happen.

Novelty shelf ornament - at this size
The only reason that i had to buy one of this was to try to beat Sonic 2 on it, but Sonic 2 is not there soooo.....probably as a keychain one day.
Has no one made a kit to put this in an original game gear case and upgrade the screen size??

My biggest gripe is these types of devices burn through batteries. A brand new paid of AAA's lasted 1 and half hours
For real? So still that same old battery issue like in 1993? This is goddamn 2020. What a rip off
The Game Gear gets a redesign 30 years later. Good job, Sega.
