Great video, Laura! I would add that if you are looking to build a portfolio, look for photogarphers that offer TFP - time for prints, which they will give you prints/digital files in exchange for modelling. I would suggest if it's your first time to work with a photographer, especially one that's not established and not booked through an agency, do bring a friend along for safety. Oh, and comp cards. Always good to eventually invest in those. It's a model's calling card. If an agency books you, they'll normally create one for you but when you're freelancing, they can be useful for potential clients for reference.
you should do a shopping video, where you vlog urself trying different clothes and maybe u could do a haul at the end of it where you show us what u bought
Hi Laura :) I've read in a lot of forums that you are allowed to work as a part-time model on a student visa in Japan. I'll be moving to Japan in a month on a student visa, so that's why I am asking... it is stated that you are not allowed to work in the "entertainment" area, or anywhere, where your morals could be questioned. Isn't modeling or acting considered as part of the entertainment business? It's extremely important to me not to change my visa status to anything other than student visa, since I am receiving a scholarship for my studies! I am a bit ashamed to ask my university about this tbh..
Hi! I was in Japan last year with a student visa too and at the time I was wondering the same question as you. They told me acting and modeling are both ok as long as you don't work more hours than you are allow to as a student. The kind of works you can't do with a student visa are "night works", pachinko, night bars, clubs... that kind of stuffs. Hope this helps you!
How old were you when you modelled in Japan? What did you do about school? I am an international model and I am finding it very hard to do this while finishing high school. ;-;
I moved after I graduated university dear. I started in London at 21, moved to Japan 22. I don't know if you think I look young but I took this as a compliment haha. I say finish high school and then focus on modeling.
No you just need to take some simple basic photos and send to the agency or you can walk in seeing someone in person is better. If you have been told no by a few agencies the next step would be to look for photographers and creative teams that are looking to work their portfolio and get a few amazing images from there and then 6 months later try the agencies again x
Hi Laura! I have a question about modeling agencies and the requirements for the pecific height. I want to model/do modeling work so so badly but problem is that I am just a very small girl, I am 165cm wich I calculated on google is 5'5. That is way to small for so many agencies. So do you maybe know if there are any agencies out there who will work with small people like me? I am also starting from the beginning and have nothing like a portfolio or whatever, just some random photo's you post on instagram and all haha. I hope that there is some hope for 5'5 people to start modeling from the very beginning. Thank you for this video because it cleared some things up to me as well :) Thanks❤❤
The modelling industry is changing. You won't be able to do runway but catalogue and magazines could be possible. The main thing is to build a strong portfolio with many styles and work with different teams looking to build their own portfolio. When you have enough you can try an agency but tbh there's nothing wrong with freelancing. Good luck.
hi ,thnx for ur perfect video.I had some questions...I want to become a model in japan but I am not sure wether they accept me with these features or not...my height is 170cm.my hips size is 98.my waist is 60cm.my shoes size is 25cm and my bust is 85.and I am beautiful...I mean I have a good look to be a model even a face model.and I like to have fat transfer injection to my breasts.can I do it?is that ok?pls answer soon thnx:-)
+Yasaman Mmm maybe first try growing a portfolio in your country and see if you enjoy modeling, and maybe be confident about yourself because you sound very insecure. As for breasts, they usually prefer flatter chest models depending what type of modeling you're thinking of doing
I think she answered a similar question to yours ? If you go down a bit from your question, she says you just need to learn basic stuff and you're good
Great video, Laura!

What kind of visa do you have yourself as a model in Japan?
Laura thanks for this great video! I'm wondering if your agency is a contract agency (Bravo, Donna, Zucca etc) or a freelance agency?
There's no such thing as a freelance agency. It's a contract of course.
Hi Laura. I loved your video :) Do you do free lancing or work for an agency?
