- This is how I built my farmhouse benches from solid cherry wood. These are part of a set with a matching farmhouse table. All of the structural joints on these benches are mortise and tenon joints. I really like how these farmhouse benches turned out; they should last a very long time!

I am an engineer by day and a woodworker by night... usually after the kids are in bed and before the neighbors call the cops!
I have a passion for building things out of wood and all things woodworking. I am always looking for new projects that look fun and challenging. My woodworking inspiration comes from my kids, my wife, and the forests around my house. I consider myself a serious hobbyist and I hope you can learn something and get inspired from the projects and mistakes that I make. I will also show you how I organize and work in my small shop in 1 bay of my garage. I will share videos of my past, current, and future woodworking projects with the goal of getting you out in the shop making sawdust!

Beauty at it’s finest
Thanks a lot!
Saw a whole bunch of your videos today (I live in NY so we are in quarantine). You do very impressive work! Indoor tree house was awesome too! Great work man!
Thanks a lot! Glad I can give you some quarantined enjoyment!
Beautiful piece of work.
Thanks!
Pure craftsmanship. I didn't see you put anything on the bottom of the feet to protect the floor. I mention this because I built a dining table with a similar foot design and something
got between the foot and the floor (dirt?). Long story short, it wasn't noticed till it had trashed the floor. Anyways, new sub and can't wait for the table.
Thanks! And yes my friend did put something under there as well to keep it from scratching the floor. Good call!
Looks awesome. Keep up the great work!
Thanks a lot!
This looks awesome! Great job! I would love to see plans for these and the table. Would also love video tutorials on hiw to measure and cut the mortise and tenons as well as the dove tails. Never done it before.
Lastly did you find the benches to be prone to tipping? The bottoms looked maybe a little narrow. Would u ever think to make them a little wider?
Love your content!
I'm actually working on plans right now! In terms of the base, yes you could make it wider, but you don't want it to be wider than the seat or it becomes a trip hazard. It's more important to have weight down there to balance out the top.
Man you totally put my woodworking abilities to shame. I’ve got to step it up! (And buy some more tools 🤤)
No worries! Just try something new on every project and you'll become an expert!
Great build Jared. And you justified buying a new mortise chisel as well! Do you sell the plans for the benches?
Thanks Mike! I haven't made plans for the benches yet, but I'm planning on doing that one next.
I meant to also ask, is this bench sized for a regular table height (30”) or countertop height table (36”). If shorter, could I just scale it up to fit my 36” table? Was wondering if it would lose stability if made taller.
What is the brand/color of the gel stain you used?
General Finishes gel strain- Java. I also did two coats of the stain
Plans for this bench and the Farmhouse table are NOW AVAILABLE on my website: www.eveningwoodworker.com/buyplans
I can't believe you spent the money on that much solid cherry and then fucked it up by hiding that beautiful wood by glopping that hideous, blotchy gel on it.
That's what the customer wanted... they liked the hardwood but wanted a darker stain
