Lyrics [Verse 1] Now I see his face, I've seen him smile Such a lonely place, no golden mile His eyes tell morbid tales of his black heart His deeds through ages past tell of his part [Chorus] I see his face, I see his smile Time to die Oh, oh, oh [Verse 2] An angel from below, change my dreams I want for glory's hour, for wealth's esteem I wish to sell my soul, to be reborn I wish for earthly riches, don't want no crown of thorns [Chorus] I see his face, I see his smile Time to die Oh, oh, woah-oh [Guitar Solo] [Verse 3] I was born a fool, don't want to stay that way Devil take my soul, with diamonds you repay I don't care for heaven, don't you look for me to cry And I will burn in hell from the day I die [Chorus] I see his face, I see his smile Time to die Oh, oh, woah-oh
Today, I was researching the originals of Thrash Metal. Diamond Head is most definitely in the conversation!!! I think DH is the GREAT GRANDFATHER OF THRASH METAL!! And no matter how you classify it (what genre of rock)..it f*ckin' rocks hard!!
For the longest time I thought the versions on Behold The Beginning were the original versions and not some crappy remixes. This mix mops the floor with the remixes.
Lyrics: Now I see his face, I see his smile Such a lonely place, no golden mile His eyes tell of morbid tales of his black heart His deeds through ages past tell of his part See his face See his smile Time to die Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh Oh, angel from below, change my dreams I want for glory's hour for wealth's esteem I wish to sell my soul to be reborn I wish for earthly riches, don't want no crown of thorns See his face See his smile Time to die Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah I was born to fall, don't wanna stay that way Devil take my soul, with diamonds you repay, yeah And I don't care for Heaven, don't you look for me to cry And I will burn in Hell from the day I die See his face See his smile Time to die Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh
I loved this band a while ago when I first loved Metallica. I got into Am I Evil, No Remorse (I know it’s a cover now but I didn’t then), and some other songs I don’t remember now. Listening to their full lengths for the first time, it’s really incredible how much it held up but also how much I missed a while ago
Maybe I am so spoiled, but I've always thought that this song is actually about homoerotic romance, especially in Diamond Head version, I still think that
It's about Elric of Melnibourne, from what I've seen... previous commenter is probably right. Or it could be a fabricated tale about a guy selling his soul to the devil.
facebones from deathklok is based on the mascots of old metal bands like dio, megadeth, and motorhead. the only problem with the art is someone couldn't figure out how to loop it properly in the video
The problem with that early Diamond Head is the production sounds so different than what American metal fans are used to. Not that big heavy bottom end in the production. DH are really great musicians, I just always need to fiddle with the EQ a little bit. This remaster sounds way better than the original early 80s album mixes.
FINALLY THE ORIGINAL VERSION!
no, it's remastered...!
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Now I see his face, I've seen him smile
Such a lonely place, no golden mile
His eyes tell morbid tales of his black heart
His deeds through ages past tell of his part
[Chorus]
I see his face, I see his smile
Time to die
Oh, oh, oh
[Verse 2]
An angel from below, change my dreams
I want for glory's hour, for wealth's esteem
I wish to sell my soul, to be reborn
I wish for earthly riches, don't want no crown of thorns
[Chorus]
I see his face, I see his smile
Time to die
Oh, oh, woah-oh
[Guitar Solo]
[Verse 3]
I was born a fool, don't want to stay that way
Devil take my soul, with diamonds you repay
I don't care for heaven, don't you look for me to cry
And I will burn in hell from the day I die
[Chorus]
I see his face, I see his smile
Time to die
Oh, oh, woah-oh
considering when this was composed mad riffing
One of the most important albums in the history of rock music. Freaking amazing!
this is the original Phantom Lord
Cliff Burton played the bass on this one 😂 The bass tone is so Kill 'em All
yeah because Colin played the same bass, the Rickenbacker 4001
@@roaming740Cliff wasn't playing the Rick during the demos, he was playing with the Aria.
@@roaming740 Tone doesn't come from the bass, it comes from the amp and the speaker and the possible effects.
@@EternalxFrostCliff wasn't on the demos except the megaforce one 1983.
Ron Mcgovney played bass on the demos
McGovney
Finally you brought it back THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT BABY
Elite NWOBHM
This song, as the Metallica cover, got me into thrash metal, punk and black metal all at once. I had never heard drums like this before.
I just listened this song with earphones, and I realized that it's an organ there, it sounds very religious or something
Just amazing
Badass! Diamond Head rules! 💎 ⚔️😈
3:53 Beautiful
One of my faves! The 2021 remaster is a ripping album 👍👍👍👍
Is it the same that it used to be available for streaming?
@@t1naftore yes. it's the original Lightning to the nations of 1980.
NWOBHM had so many great bands that just never got the recognition. Dark Star is another gem. I listen to Dead Reckoning (ext)everyday at work.
what other NWOBHM you recomend i love satan
My favorite band to play the style (and my favorite band ever, period) is easily Maiden but there’s more to the deep cuts than I thought there was
Best version forever and ever! ®️💎
Just genius

Whitout Diamond Head Metallica wouldn't exist
For the longest time I thought the versions on Behold The Beginning were the original versions and not some crappy remixes. This mix mops the floor with the remixes.

It’s weird I never heard of diamond head until Metallica covered them, now I love them.
Lars helped out Diamond Head and Brian Tatler a lot. Diamond Head is awesome!

Angel witch>Diamondhead
What's with that awful Dethklok-ish art?
Didn't you know it resembles the 2023 APPOCALYPSE ?
facebones from deathklok is based on the mascots of old metal bands like dio, megadeth, and motorhead. the only problem with the art is someone couldn't figure out how to loop it properly in the video
Love diamond head but Metallica's version is better
Nah this is way better

Oh boy Diamond Head better watch out Lars Ulrich is going to sue them for remaking one of their songs 😂
Diamond Head originally wrote this song, and Metallica covered it dumbass!
