In berserk ppl see griffith as this gentle godly angel, but the main characters of the series are aware he is a demon that commited atrocities against those closest to him to achieve his godhood. Dude, imagine if the DLC is actually an alternate version of the entire game. And the only difference is that everything has a blueish tint and is mirrored Pog
Definitely think that a Living and Spirit world duality is going on here with the in-game lore surrounding Shadow of the Erdtree. I'd imagine its very similar to the depiction of the Umbral World in Lords of the Fallen or exactly like the Old Hunter's DLC in Bloodborne. I've thought about a dark reflection of the Lands Between in a similar way the Hunter's Nightmare is like this strange parrallel recreation of the main city of Yarhnam in Bloodborne, but in Elden Ring it's like a Dark Garden Shadow Realm that mirrors the living realm in the game but with a bunch of changes to the environment between realms. Definitely a great opportunity to reimagine the game map and put a much darker spin on the world of Elden Ring. This would be a far more hostile region filled with dead heroes, slain demi-gods, and all manner of horrifing monsters ready to emerge from a hostile Dark Forest that challanges even the most experinced veterans. That is until someone can lead us through this realm of the dead and come out the otherside having faced these great challanges. This is my idea of it anyway but who knows how it will turn out once completed. Hopefully it will blow our minds! If it is a parrallel game map recreation of the main game like the Old Hunters DLC, that would be amazingly ambitious and would explain why it's taking the development time of almost an entirely new game. I'm very excited to see if this is the case. 😊👍
I think people take the Ghostflame Torch description a little too literally. As I understand it, the "sealing of fate" is a metaphore for the fact that the Fallen Hawks were so bent on finding the Eternal City, that not even lack of resources would've stopped them. If they were willing to burn the bones of their comrades just to continue their search, then there was nothing left that could've made them return to the surface.
I genuinely believe FROMSOFT was 50/50 about doing a full dlc and where prob gonna do a Sekiro style boss rush mode, but Elden Ring was HUGE so they switched to developing a full dlc. This premium cope helps me get through the wait.
The militiamen being in the mountain tops gives credence to that a big battle occurred there the souls passing on credits the abundance of the lampwoods glow
The Helphen is red light, and what is the difference between blackflame and destined death? Black Flame no longer has the red tinge of destined death after it was sealed by Maliketh. Perhaps there is a connection between the Helphen and sealing destined death away.
It probably has to do with death itself just being red, and the ability to grant death indescriminant pulls from the realm of the dead somehow, leading to maliketh’s destined death looking red, and it losing that connection to death when maliketh seals it, causing the black flame to lose its color.
I think the lampwood is those ghostly trees you find around the lands between. You can find one it the mistwood that will lead you to a merchant. There also one on the northern cliffs of the weeping peninsula, west of the gatebridge.
Maybe but the helphen and the lampwood are referred to as it being a black tree with that red grace around it so I doubt it would have the candles without them actually describing that in the item description, I wonder what the difference is tho
Those are the candletrees, mentioned in Candletree Wooden Shield as a representation of the prophecy of the Cardinal Sin, and were banned throughout Lands Between. You can also see them as a candle stand design inside Elphael.
The dlc will probably be inside of a dream just like bloodborne. Miquella is all about dreams and mind control. Now he’ll be tainted by blood because of Mohg. Some of it might be inside of a painting that you can enter. Some parts of the dlc might take place in the past via Faram Azula.
Just an observation. The only other thing that I can think of that matches the weave pattern at the base of the sword, is the weird pattern that covers some of Malenia's skin. I'm under the impression that her pattern is more unalloyed gold from Miquella. We all seem to agree that Miquella will likely be doing something with Death in the DLC, so I wonder if the Helphin is of his design as he does whatever it is he's doing in the Dream/Death world.
I don't know if I just missed it in the video or if you missed it, but you didn't mention the helphen trees in limgrave/weeping peninsula (and elsewhere, I just can't remember) that spawn spectres of the dead to guide you to treasure.
I should have, but I’m still working out all the lore around those. What confuses me about them is that, while they are technically “lampwoods,” they make spirits travel away rather than follow its light
For What it's worth, I think the Candletree Wooden Shield description is a red herring, as the candle tree, seems to be akin to the lampwood as minor erd trees are to the greater erd tree. As such, perhaps the candletrees (what I believe are the things we interact with) are related to but different in function from the lampwood. If the lampwood provides guidance to the dead, perhaps the candletrees are a mechanism to allow the dead to provide guidance to the living.
3:43 i think there is a chronological error. The rune of death was not removed after shattering the Elden Ring. It never was a part of the Elden Ring to begin with - it was in the possession of the Gloam-Eyed queen which Maliketh had slain and took the rune into his blade on Marika's behalf. Maliketh was storing the rune within his sword all this time which is why Ranni was able to steal a fragment of it, before Maliketh sealed the sword within his own flesh. This all happend before the shattering of the ring. So the rune of death was rendered inactive way earlier
Isn't the The Lands Between already purgatory?! Like "Things betwixt" in Darsouls 2!? Aren't they references to the world's within or between World's?! Mirror worlds? Parallel Dimensions? 🤔
Sooo ..Helphen to the Lands Between is like the Helheim to Valhalla? And..based on Helpen Steeple i'd speculate, that just as Marika is the major god in Lands Between, then Ragagon is the Main god in Helphen ... both realms exist connected by the Erdtree (just like realms in Norse mythology) Going further with comparission to Norse mythology, that would explain why Miquella is in Helphen, since he didn't die in battle as Us - the Tarnished (Einherjar).
People i preach to out of love you accept christ into your heart and you WILL be saved for he love the world so much he sent his only son to die so that whoever belive will not perish but have eternal life in heaven you are not to far gone turn to christ REPENT of your sin confess christ as lord and savoir and him alone is the ways to heaven please i beg you turn to christ for salvation can not be earned only given as a gift by the lord jesus loves you.❤❤❤❤❤
Interestingly, the blade's design looks like an exaggerated/stylized version of an outline of a Scandinavian Stave Church, and Scandinavia is where the idea of Valhalla comes from. Just like the Helphen's Steeple describes, an afterlife for those who die in battle. There's some Norse imagery/connection with this blade, for sure. This also connects with the Norse tales about Ragnarök, a war at the end of the world between Gods and Fire Giants, similar to what happened at the Mountaintop of the Giants. 2:55 The right angled edges and interlocking pattern could be a further reference to Stave Churches as they were built of interlocking pieces of wood, held together with tension rather than nails or glue.
We can't be so simplistic about translations, the way a lot of people in fandom are eager to be. 「灯火の樹」 doesn't inherently mean "tree of light" with no other interpretations. Look up 灯火の樹 in a jp-en dictionary (Jisho, Wiktionary, whatever) and you'll see definitions including light, lamp, torch, illumination... If you want to make a conclusion about what the Japanese text was originally meant to describe, you'd need to consult someone with a strong understanding of both modern usage of terms, and whether they might have a different implication in medieval/fantasy fiction. Otherwise, we have to do our own research and be open to a lot of possibilities (including, y'know, the fact that the English translations might closely match the Japanese text), and not just trust someone who read the first definition in a dictionary, or pasted something into Google Translate, and then made a post somewhere about how the English text is wrong
We acxyally do see the Resurection the spear was refering to. On death rite birds wings we see humanoid figures holding those exact spears and Death Rite Birds can even rain down spears launched from their wings just like we do with its weapon art. Also minor correction but Deathbirds skulls arent Humanoid with bird beaks. They more closely resemble the skulls of Baby birds like robins.

There is no better gaming world to be in than Elden Ring, it’s so mysterious and perfect. Just got it on my deck after getting the Plat on PS5 and am going to get 100% on the Deck too.
In most games I'd roll my eyes at this level of speculation, but in the souls series the devs have been nutorious for placing everything with a distinct reason behind it. We've had ingame items allude to future dlc before so I think you're definitely on to something with this weapon. Also I'm interested to learn about the era before the Erdtree too. The gods seem to take turns running things and the other forces of the world are working against the Greater Will almost as if it has over stayed it's welcome as chief deity.
Nice use of the word "interstice"! I've only heard that word used from one other source (translation of a classical Greek mathematician) in my whole life.
Are the deathbirds like the inverse of the fallen stars like astel? They both have human like skull heads with cracks or holes in them both have slender long bodies maybe it’s just design similarities and I’m reaching but idk if I know if I’m The only one who sees they’re like opposites
Basically, character will die, go through a sort of challenges and tribulations, and eventually be given rebirth. That would explain why the erd tree in the photo looks like its being infected by death, my guess is that it will corrupt the bosses within the world too causing them to go insane.
Man my life would be complete if the dlc has more gothic themes like ds3. We got enough epic themes in the base game I would love to see them make us fight primordial dark outer gods/demigods
I always thought the Lampwood was connected to those small candle tree things you can find in Liurnia and Limgrave. The ones that have a spirit limp towards a cave or place of interest.
Just wanted to say that I enjoyed the video, but you used a few made up words... please make sure you use the correct wordage for your next script, thank you.
I feel like destined death was the true ending and nobody can convince me otherwise. Its peoples misconception of death that causes them to avoid it. Rannis ending is good because you go to the heart of the issue but i have reason to believe ranni is going to fail and shes too ambitious. That and she doesn't actually resolve any of the issues in the lands between. Its in favor of a more grand endevor, which will not even succeed.
Would have been a cool detail if the forbidden lands mist was from the helphen would be that it doesn’t appear in game if you miraculously never died. We’d need to ask a no-hit speedrunner to test it lol
I think this is kinda like the Deep in DS3. Interesting, small lore tidbits that players want to learn more about and speculate that it will appear in the DLC, but it ultimately doesn't.
any wotlk fans? frost morion. I truley believe this blade is a reference to the lich kings blade. Remember how Frostmourne would steal souls and send them to the shadowlands prison? very similar to the death rite in elden ring.
My favorite looking sword in the whole game btw
Has anyone noticed that the death rite spear is in Sekiro, wielded by a spirit dragon?
The Helphen is red light, and what is the difference between blackflame and destined death? Black Flame no longer has the red tinge of destined death after it was sealed by Maliketh.
Perhaps there is a connection between the Helphen and sealing destined death away.
Could that be the red gracelike light you see in the forbidden lands?
Indead. Also, notice how the letter D in "Death" is in upper case in these descriptions.
There also one on the northern cliffs of the weeping peninsula, west of the gatebridge.
ohhh perhaps you're right , i dont remember reading much about those
Maybe but the helphen and the lampwood are referred to as it being a black tree with that red grace around it so I doubt it would have the candles without them actually describing that in the item description, I wonder what the difference is tho
Those are the candletrees, mentioned in Candletree Wooden Shield as a representation of the prophecy of the Cardinal Sin, and were banned throughout Lands Between. You can also see them as a candle stand design inside Elphael.
People thinking Miquella will be a good guy forget he’s clearly based off Griffith 😂
ITS A TRICK!
That cross hatch design might have something to do with Radagon. He is also associated with the color red and is a warrior.
Hell yeah crunchy shout out
the cross section work on the bottom of the blade just looks like a stone path leading up to the church door, it could really be that simple
Fallen hawks?? BERSERK REFERENCE
I hope to see more norse/varangian armour style...
3:35 Marika removed the rune of death when she created the Golden Order, not as a result of the shattering.
I have long hair but no dreads. I'm gonna see if I can form natural dreads before dlc release
If you turn the Helphen Steeple so the edge is pointing downward, it looks like a lamp post, the hatched part being the lamp itself.
The shape of Helphen's Steeple is giving me norse stave church vibes.
Please don't fill that theoritical area with those teleporting knights
Just an observation. The only other thing that I can think of that matches the weave pattern at the base of the sword, is the weird pattern that covers some of Malenia's skin. I'm under the impression that her pattern is more unalloyed gold from Miquella. We all seem to agree that Miquella will likely be doing something with Death in the DLC, so I wonder if the Helphin is of his design as he does whatever it is he's doing in the Dream/Death world.
The only thing that has been shattered more than the Elden Ring is my heart
I hope the dlc sheds more light on this topic, Really interesting!
May I ask you, What light armour are you using?
Damn it looks like we’re all still going to be maidenless before this drops
Keep a purging stone on hand, just hope we get dlc in february
Was the rune of death removed after the shattering? I always thought it happened long before
The rune of death was removed upon the creation of the Golden Order as far as I know; much earlier than the shattering
And..based on Helpen Steeple i'd speculate, that just as Marika is the major god in Lands Between, then Ragagon is the Main god in Helphen ... both realms exist connected by the Erdtree (just like realms in Norse mythology)
Going further with comparission to Norse mythology, that would explain why Miquella is in Helphen, since he didn't die in battle as Us - the Tarnished (Einherjar).
Don't worry people, the dlc will come when it's ready.
They know how many people are watching and waiting.
Who even cares anymore? Already moved on to other games baldurs gate 3 will have me busy for a while and all the other games ive bought and not played. Loved elden ring but its too little too late now. Cyberpunk sold 10s of millions and barely sold 5 million copies for phantom liberty, elden ring will be no different.
They both have human like skull heads with cracks or holes in them both have slender long bodies maybe it’s just design similarities and I’m reaching but idk if I know if I’m
The only one who sees they’re like opposites
Basically, character will die, go through a sort of challenges and tribulations, and eventually be given rebirth. That would explain why the erd tree in the photo looks like its being infected by death, my guess is that it will corrupt the bosses within the world too causing them to go insane.
hatchwork design is reminiscent of radagon's trellis, hatchwork rune pattern that frequently appears with him
That little cross icon above the arched doorway on the Helphen Steeple is the Elden Ring. I hope that sparks or connects some crazy dots for you.
The "cross" design on it looks like the Cinquedea weapon to me. I don't see any relevance to that, just what it looks like to me.
I bet the project got too ambitious and they made it a full new elding ring game.
I’m convinced the DLC is just gonna be us speculating about DLC 😂
Would have been a cool detail if the forbidden lands mist was from the helphen would be that it doesn’t appear in game if you miraculously never died. We’d need to ask a no-hit speedrunner to test it lol
The second DLC after SOTET is Elden Ring Light of the Helphen
You baiting my click bro? Just made me do some googling to see if I missed dlc news. Dang
I first thought that the red light at the entrance to the Mountaintops was somehow Malenia's aura
I never clocked that the giant phantom skeletons shoot ghostflame out of their eye. Cool!
Crunchy crushed the helphen lore in his vid about a year ago! Def give that a watch
I called it! I predicted a Helphen DLC over a year ago! 😃
Helphen is the new Eidas in terms of obscurity. I love it.
Damn y’all are desperate I hope that dlc is releasing soon cause some mf are going to depression rn
Thanks for taking my question. What is a ziostorm? Thanks again.
Timeline is a bit twisted, but otherwise live your stuff man.
Did you notice hyphen steeple looks like the great tree? A conifer?
Amazing video and a very interesting Elden Ring topic!!
Why are you pronouncing “gem” as “gym”???
melina does call the tarnished a 'traveler from beyond the fog'
what i found interesting was that the helphan steeple greatsword looks like a tree kinda
Helphen should have been the dlc, not the fuckin scat tree
Its just the Morian Blade from ds3. No dlc to see here
Miquella is building up all the abundance for a great dlc.
All wrong because miyazaki hates you
I think this is kinda like the Deep in DS3. Interesting, small lore tidbits that players want to learn more about and speculate that it will appear in the DLC, but it ultimately doesn't.
I agree. The deep was an interesting concept i wish they did more with
Man I love this game and FromSoft so much
I love your content man keep up the amazing work
any wotlk fans? frost morion. I truley believe this blade is a reference to the lich kings blade. Remember how Frostmourne would steal souls and send them to the shadowlands prison? very similar to the death rite in elden ring. I think the blade depicts both a tree and the tower of a church too, which also reminds me a bit of Icecrown Citadel. I got a 150 Lich king cosplay and I got to say the blade is amazing.
this clickbait is getting outrageous dude...
Can someone help me beat Midir in DS3 😭
Great video!
Thank you🙏
