    17:09 I've heard from other youtubers that its better for the stone crab to take both claws, because they will avoid fights and take less risks than if they still had 1 claw. Have you heard this, and do you know how true or not this is?

    • @KeyWestWaterman
      @KeyWestWaterman  2 месяца назад +43

      I hear this a lot and I'm not sure where it started. There are very few studies on declawing stone crab, the few published studies that I have read all say that same thing. The mortality rate is much higher, (almost double) when both claws are removed versus one. The mortality rate is fairly high after removing one claw. The most important part is removing the claw correctly without breaking the joint or socket so to speak. After 15 years of diving stone crabs by hand. Seeing the amount of crab I have, the amount with one claw left and no claws left (alive) I would have to agree. But I could be wrong, just my opinion. I would love to know who is out there watching stone crab "fights" in a natural environment, 15 years diving for them and I have yet to see one lol
