I was 21 in 1976 and witnessed Styx at the Dodge City Civic Auditorium right after their Crystal Ball album came out. Loudest band I ever saw and it was super cool!!

I remember watching a RUclips candid interview, Tommy said he admired this song as one of the best STYX song (which in indirect way, a thumb up for Dennis' songwriting skill)

This is my fav Styx tune. Although I think Gowan does a good job, it's really unfortunate that Dennis is not up there singing this. He wrote it and no one can quite match his chops.
Take that up with Dennis.
He decided to leave the band. After 25 years it is time to move on.

I’m sure Dennis has been walking around wearing sunglasses basically 24/7 for the last 25 years to combat the exhaustion, dizziness, and extreme light sensitivity that imaginary illness is still causing him. I’ve met him several times over the years and the only time he takes the sunglasses off is during the show. So no. He’s not wearing them to look cool. For a guy that didn’t want to tour, until recently, DeYoung sure has had a hell of a lot of tours over the last two decades and change.

Your reading comprehension skills, your inability to grasp simple facts, or my inability to ignore ridiculously uninformed comments like yours. Regardless, it doesn’t really matter, but I never said Dennis was touring nonstop. Until he broke his shoulder a while back, he had been on the road as much as what’s left of Styx has been though. I don’t consider listing documented facts as bragging but take it any way you want to.
I also CLEARLY said Dennis is almost never without sunglasses EXCEPT when he’s performing. He felt it didn’t look professional or he’d be wearing them then too. Again. Reading comprehension is something you might want to brush up on.
When Dennis first got sick, he physically couldn’t tour because he nor his doctors had yet figured out that heat and light (stage lights etc.) were what was causing his symptoms. Once they figured that part out, they found a workaround with the sun glasses. Is that really too complicated to follow? Dennis desperately wanted to tour in 1999 and begged the band to give him some time. As usual though, Shaw was dead broke so waiting wasn’t an option. Dennis went as far as to suggest they get a temporary replacement if they needed the revenue, at least until he got a handle on his medical problem. Tommy and JY refused and said he had to commit to a full tour right then or he’s out. They knew Dennis was in no condition to tour when they gave him the ultimatum. That’s why they gave it. Bottom line… They wanted him out so they could control the brand and keep more of the money for themselves. It isn’t any more complicated than that.
As for the lawsuit, Tommy and JY sued Dennis for total control of everything Styx so he was left no choice but to counter sue. Funny how they always forget to mention that part of it. They were literally stealing the band he founded, and was the most prominent member of, right out from under him. Obviously that was always their goal, but the illness was the catalyst they needed so they spun a story and took full advantage. Obviously, Shaw and JY couldn’t say they kicked Dennis out because he was sick so they blamed Roboto and his ballads. Either they didn’t hate them that much after all, or those songs must’ve been more popular than they thought because after years of fan backlash, they added them to their set list and started selling Roboto merchandise! Lol. They were trying to deny Dennis royalties, vast parts of the Styx music catalog, and even the ability to use the Styx name in any capacity, including during live performances or advertising ever again. Does any of that sound reasonable? Of course he counter sued! It would’ve cost him a fortune if he hadn’t. He also won the royalty, music catalog, and using/mentioning the Styx name nonsense. Much to JY’s and Shaw’s chagrin, Dennis DeYoung still gets royalties every time “Styx” performs. Good for him. He deserves it. Other than low information individuals like yourself, given the FACTS, who could possibly blame the guy for countersuing? Styx was his life’s work and he loved that band (and those ingrates stabbing him in the back) with a passion. Somehow, he still loves and respects those two bloodsuckers. He’s a better man than most, and unlike those two, not one word of his side of the story has never changed.
Moving forward, please learn how to read more carefully before you reply to posts on topics you know nothing about. I couldn’t care less if you or anyone else likes Dennis or not. It is helpful to know both sides of a story however, even when the truthful side hurts your feelings or is something you don’t like to hear.
