I’m big on keeping handwritten bullet journals/notes. I’ve always been more consistent with a physical book, rather than a digital one because I can never stay consistent otherwise. I have one that’s more calendar style for bills, todos, appointments, etc. and one for my plants! It’s like my morning routine to do my notebooks and coffee on the porch before starting/during plant care. I usually do one plant per page and get layout styles from Pinterest. I also use tabs to label the pages for easier accessibility. ❤

I have 300+ plants. I keep a Google spreadsheet with all the plants names, purchase date, place purchased and price plus some other columns. Each plant has a linked Google Doc with pictures of when I bought it and major updates. I also document repots, etc. I take pictures on my phone then email them to myself to put in the Google Document from my computer.
It’s awesome to be able to see how much each plant changes over time.

I use hooks with magnets in my cabinet (not an ikea cabinet). If the shelf is metal, that would work. Also, soil mites can be found wandering around on leaves and hiding in cataphylls too, especially if you’ve just watered the plant. If you look at a soil mite with a microscope, the mature ones have little tails that look like three or four little hairs on their butts ☺️

I do use a plant app for my 150-ish plants. I don't always update the photos and notes, but I try to if something big happens (like I treat for bugs) and I use it when I water so that I can look back and see how frequently plants are tending to want it -- that way I can adjust their suggested care schedule in the app to make it work better for my environment.

I bought it for like 80$ and it was huuuge it had like 2 meter long vines with huge leaves... turns out I had no idea that these guys literally need the highest humidity and can only really survive in greenhouse conditions... so it lost ALL its leaves but I didn't wanna give up so I trimmed it back, kept the pot the whole winter, just in some random corner, almost never watered and now I put it out on the balcony and I COULDN'T BELIEVE MY EYES... it really has new growth sprouting like CRAZY💙 so yeah really looking forward to you talking more about these kind of viney plants because I still only know so little about the species💙

I cracked the code with my black velvet, it gets so easily stressed with too much soil or too much pot room. I downsized my 2 leaf black velvet into a smaller pot and now it's at 4 leaves. I've been bottom watering instead of top watering amd it's MUCH happier ❤

I don't comment often, but I wanted to say this. Just ignore the people complaining about your "up-speak". I never even noticed it until it was pointed out by that comment, and only for a little bit. And, to be honest, the way you speak doesn't matter, what's important is that the information you provide is useful and educational, which it is. Please don't let the complaints bother you. 💙💙

Attach a bamboo stake to the back of your moss pole it will prevent the bending. Can't find wire mesh anywhere either here in FL. Amazon has green mesh ugh

I use the “planta” app. It helps me keep up with watering. I snooze or skip as needed by each plant. It’s just a reminder. I like the progress notes. I rarely take pictures cause I’m usually sitting in my chair writing the notes. And I’m comfortable with a blanket and my dog Hoover by my side.

Hi Fern! I have >100 plants and I use a spread sheet on my MacBook to keep track of my plant care. I keep in the same file each month in a different sheet, rows for plants and columns for days. to fill it quickly I came up with a code e.g. x=simple watering, w=shower, PT= pests thrips, PM= pests mealie bugs, pot= repotting and so on. I just can't keep in mind when I did what on which plant if I don't use my spread sheet 😅

Keeping the deer and rabbits away from plants outside is something we struggle with at my home as well. I don't know if it's your kind of thing, but there is a product called Liquid Fence that you spray around the plants that you want to keep protected from wildlife. I use it mostly for flower beds, they like our lilies. It smells awful when applied, but works pretty well for us. I've heard other people in the gardening spaces online say it works for them as well. Congrats on the new home!

Re keeping track of what you do with plants: I have 3 plant spaces in my house (about 150 plants total), so I keep an A5 binder in each space with a page for each plant. It's easy enough for me to pick up the little binder and flip through as I water/fertilize/treat for pests. I find it much easier to keep up with something physical like this rather than an app because it's right in front of me :)

for keeping track of plants, I've been really into voice memos lately. I hit record, carry my phone around and just say all my notes as they come to me. I can listen back at more than double the speed and write down the really important things in a todo, and write down the fun notes in a bullet journal if i want. I find that i don't even have to be consistent with it but im overall more on top of things!

When it comes to hanging up the grid in your Milsbo, I have found that clear command strip hooks work best. I got them from my local Family Dollar for like five bucks but they hold up fairly well in mine. I even made some macramé hangers for a couple of Hoyas in my cabinet, and since the hook can go back and forward, it works on the ceiling of the Milsbo to hang to mini hangers

I made an excel for my plant. Basically their name, and following many empty cells. I will print the table out and fill in the date whenever I water them (and also fertilize). About every month or two I change another table. I have used this method for more than two years, honestly it is really convenient.

Negative uptalk comments really show off people's (un)conscious biases I personally love your voice, Fern, and I've never noticed any uptalk, even after you've pointed it out lol. I love listening to you talk about just about anything and your plant videos have been a balm for my stressed out soul--also in the process of moving currently!💙
