    The roots of the Dioscorea discolor are called tubers, and the roots of potatoes and yams are tubers. I am sure we all new what you meant they are very interchangable discriptions. I have added this plant to my short list. I enjoy a few plants that go dormant, and especially enjoy the fast growers to hold me over while impatiently waiting for the slow growers to push out a leaf. I love the colors and marking on the leaves. Waiting for spring to shop. Thanks again for the enteraining and informative content!

      @MrFreakplayer Год назад

      @@sydneyplantguy ouh really? Then I guess I didn’t pay enough attention to your playlist. Noooooo I don’t like spoilers 🤣😁
      My problem is just, that I am struggling to keep them moist. I know that there is a possible to use plastic sheets on the back, but I don’t know if the difference is that huge.
      And I also found a solution for Propagating on planks: Air layering. So propagating wouldn’t be an problem. Argh I just go and watch your video! Thank you for your efforts, I just love your videos!

    • @regi985
      @regi985 Год назад +1

      @@MrFreakplayer well if keeping them moist is too much of a hasste for you then go with planks, it´s that easy. You can also decide to just do one or two mosspoles for the beginning and see how you like it. I did that and put my adinsonii on a pole, first I had a diy mesh pole like Jan does, but I didn´t relly like it (might have been how I build it) I know have a pole out of PVC pipe, witch just a wide opening in the front. The moss holds on it´s own and there are no bars in the way if I ever want to take it out and propagate. It´s also quide sturdy and easy to extend, though not the prettiest (grey plastic, but could be spray painted)
      I think a closed pole makes a significant difference in how fast it dries out, as does the diameter and the humidity you have. I also have plants like my green monstera which is not on a mosspole, as I don´t think it needs it, it´s growing just fine with a normal support.

    • @Miiilllkk
      @Miiilllkk Год назад +1

      @@MrFreakplayer
      I was having the same problem when i First started using moss poles last year. I realized the moss I had was "Forest moss" and not "sphagnum moss". It must be Sphagnum moss!! The plastic backs help a TON if you are in low humidity like myself. A friend of mine couldn't find plastic backs and actually tried using "saran wrap/ cling plastic" (the one from the kitchen) which works wonders for her. The serial roots grow through the thin plastic and it retains the moisture Extremely well. Worth a try for some cheap plastic :)
      Happy planting 🫶🏻

    It came back sooner probably because it's inside and warmer!

      It’s always been inside to start off the season … i reckon it was the warm spring in combination with the repot :)

    Exactly what medium did you use?

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  3 месяца назад

      I used my existing aroud mix (as per my tutorial) and added more coco peat for water retention :) there’s no right or wrong as long as you have good water retention while maintaining good drainage
