    People act like the 0-0-2 is so complicated that you can't explain it to beginners. I don't think it's that hard. The first team to serve gets the first chance to score points. It would be an even bigger advantage if both players got a chance to serve before the other team got one chance, so to balance things out, the first team to serve only gets one server. That's why they start out as the second server.

      @@raycortopassi4030 I explanation above was about the rationale for the 0-0-2. In other words, why the game is started with 0-0-2.
      But more basic than that, I hope you at least understand what the numbers represent...? 0-0 is the score. The third number is about the server, and lets both teams know when the service changes side. Do you understand that much?

I have yet to see a scoring video that mentions that the receiving team must each receive serves on the side where they found themselves at the side out. So, if I (3.5 on a rare good day) ever partner with Tyson McGuffin, we won't be able to let Tyson take all the serves.

    I'm a tennis player learning PB and one thing about doubles team player rotation was vague. In tennis doubles, the receiving team never alternates left and right courts. For example, if you started receiving in the left (Ad) court, you always receive serve in the Ad court throughout the set and match. However, in PB, the court side one receives on alternates L/R based on their positions when last serving but sided out? For example, if my first receive ever in the game was left court, but I served last from right side with side out, the next time I receive is from right court? Thanks

    Helpful info on scoring. Question: when you are in the middle of a match, and you are not sure of the score, it seems to me that players figure it out by who was the very first server - how does this work?? Thanks!

    • @ThirdShotSports
      @ThirdShotSports  3 года назад

      Good question. We should make a video on it. The short answer is: if your score is even, a team’s first server will be serving/returning from the right side of the court. if a teams score is is odd, the second server will be playing from the right side.

  • @rexgoodheart3471

    I feel like pickleball doubles scoring is a bit convoluted. Should have just adopted tennis doubles scoring. Tennis scoring, altogether. 15,30,40,Ad, game. New to pickleball, and I can't keep up with all the confusion on court about whose serve it is, which side to serve from, etc.

  • @tvbuijhg
    @tvbuijhg 2 года назад

    You leave out a very important point that should be introduced in the very beginning. And that is that the very first server of the game is know as the "first server", which is different than "server #1". And it should be noted that the 'first server" will ALWAYS be serving on the right side when their score is even. The "first server" can be server #1 or #2 depending on where they are standing when they get a side out.

    Question: does the player on the right side of the court always serves first?

    • @ThirdShotSports
      @ThirdShotSports  3 года назад

      At the start of the game, and after a side out, the serve always comes from the right side first. However, sometimes players may be forced to serve from one side of the court but prefer to play the rest of the point on the opposite side. They will serve as required, and then move to their desired side. So, the serve would come from the right side of the court, but that person who served may then moved to the left. It’s called stacking. We have a video on it on our channel.

    Once the 1st server serves at 0-0-2 and loses, once the other team loses and it's still 0-0, how does the next person on the original service side call the score? 0-0-1, since now they are the 1st server for the team? Seems odd since they started at 0-0-2, even though they were the first server of the game period.

      Good question! If a team wins a rally when they are serving, same person keeps serving but from the other court. If they lose the rally, that person loses the serve. So at the very start of a game (002, serving from the right) if the serving team wins, the server would then serve from the left side of the court (1-0-2). Does that make sense?
