Just started playing, I know I'm a beginner but I can tell you saying that third number is stupid. Categorically objectively stupid. It is confusing and unnecessary. For the server number after the score say the WORD "first" or "second" instead of the numbers "1" and "2". There is no reason to use a number to indicate the server, it is just confusing. Say the word. "0-0 SECOND" "8-7 FIRST". I'll wait here for the flaming responses.

Well. I hear you. Scoring can seem kind of weird for beginners. Thanks for watching.

It helps a lot when you’re playing in a noisy gym. There are times when you can’t be heard clearly and need to use fingers instead. There are a few things in pickleball that are strange and illogical, but if calling the score is confusing to you it might not be your game.

      I agree

This game doesn’t stop shocking. Extremely boring and slow, and because of that lets complicate the scoring system with some extra numbers…

I must have watched about 10 other videos on scoring and play. I had to watch this at .75 speed and I still don't get it. Why doesn't the receiving players get a point when the server mess up? So many tiny little rules and shifting side to side. The inventor of the game should have stayed with the same concept as tennis or ping-pong.

Roy, I'm confused on one aspect. If the score is 1-x -1 and the other team sides out, where would our team serve from? The odd court (left side) to start our service game? Or do we always start fron right side (even) court first?
And who on my team is the server or does that not matter?

Thanks for asking. The serve always starts with the player who is on the right side of the court.

Thanks for the bonus scoring tip!! That comes very handy when no one remembers which side to server from.

You're welcome. It's kind of hard to understand it first, but, after a little while you'll get it.

Rory, does the person who starts serve at 0-0-2 (essentially the first server) because when they side out at 0-2-1 (the same player starts serve again even though he was the “2nd server” to start the game?

Yes. That's because his team didn't win the first point, so he never switched over to the left court. It's something to take note of. If I'm the better player on my team and my team is serving first, I want to be the server. Because, if my team doesn't win that point and it's side out to the other team, when it's side out to my team, I get to serve again. So, in that scenario, I get to serve twice before my partner serves once. Thanks for asking.

When is the game over...what score do you play to?

Rory, What are your thoughts on rally scoring? Do you ever play games using rally scoring? I think that it can be a fun alternative, it definitely keeps games closer since you can score on both your serve and receiving. Overall, I prefer traditional scoring but every now and then a few MLP-style tournaments are fun.

I think that's where the game is headed. When playing rally score, you have to make sure to get your serves in. Thanks for watching.

You have to make sure EVERY shot is in or it's a point for the opposing team. I haven't played that way but I'm assuming the winning team would have to score 21 points. @@pickleballpick-apart9787

Thanks for asking. Stay tuned. I'm playing in a tournament this weekend and if I bring my camera, I'll post a video. I just have to have my opponents agree to be on RUclips.
