NEW Jetboil Stash - Backpacking stove first impressions!

- The all-new Jetboil Stash is their lightest and most efficient compact backpacking stove to date and I was lucky enough to be selected to test one out prior to launch.
I haven't properly stretched its legs on a thru-hike yet due to the pandemic, but I wanted to give you my first impressions and a quick overview of the stove kit. It's not as cheap and quick as my MSR Pocket Rocket 2, but it's certainly more fuel-efficient while being about 50g lighter.

$129usd? lol you're better off buying a $15 dollar ultralight stove from amazon, and a $35 Toaks pot. Save yourself money and weight.
Just FYI I think you accidentally added a random astronomy video to this playlist.
Have you stopped filming and uploading altogether? I enjoyed your videos.
Great video. With the regulator handle, be careful to turn it to the closed position after you have unfolded it as sometimes (perhaps every time) in order to fold it up you effectively slightly open the valve. That means when you attach the fuel canister it will slowly empty if not immediately lit. It’s just a good habit to form. Yes - I learned the hard way!!!
$129 stash, nah !
Looks like the pot will work with any stove with care, I don't care how fast it boils I care about how much gas it takes to boil
The MSR is a bit faster to boil, but the Stash uses about half the fuel (as per your comparison video). I can wait 30 sec for my water to save half the fuel. Thanks for the videos.
Have you used this out in the peaks yet when the weather is rubbish? It would be nice to know how it fares when it gets a bit breezy
Nice vid dude. Was looking forward to seeing this bad boy.
But doubt ill switch from my alu jetboil Sol. Tips the scales at 287g (they did a lighter Ti version too) but the sol has a insulated jacket(30g) and the way the sol clicks to the pot i reckon it will have better fuel efficiency. Do you know how many grams of fuel it takes to boil 500ml? (shelterd location)
.
Solid overview dude good to see ya face back on't tube!
Stay safe n happy trails 🤙
Jist watched ya other vid 7g for 500ml is pretty chuffing good!!
Ahh thanks matey. Glad you enjoyed that and cool I’ll check out the Sol!
Simple handkerchief keeps my kit from rattling. And it’s nice for cleaning up my face after enjoying a meal.
Thank you for putting in the weight of the gas used for the boil.
I don't care much about the boil time, but for a longer hike, 2-3 grams difference in use of gas for a boil quickly add up, especially if there is several meals and/or cups of warm beverage during a day.
Really helpful review Russ and just as I’m looking to buy a new stove 👍 So at least I’ve now narrowed it down to the Jetboil Stash and the msr pocket rocket system-so that’s a win! 😃 Thanks for your input! Karen
thanks bro..
I'll stick with the PR2 , the stash is too much cash
The video of the selvedge is very good, I find it very helpful. bravo !!!
Genuinely can’t bring myself to buy it I’ll stick with my MSR pocket rocket and 750 Toaks pot
Fair play. It’s an investment for sure.
Love it!
Im really curious about others stoves working on that pot, like Soto Amicus or Windmaster (with igniter) and some better regulator valve. Tell us if you know someone that test them together. Great channel.
My thoughts exactly... I have both of the Soto's you mention. Bummer is that Jet Boil doesn't, at least as of today, sell the pot on it's own. Don't need another stove! As a compromise, I picked up an Olicamp XTS (heat exchanger) pot. It's a little heavier, and has more capacity than I need, but I do know that heat exchangers WORK! Heck, even over here in the US, I have a Birtish-made stovetop kettle that has one, and the boil times are amazing. Thank you Brits!
I’m going to use the Stash pot with my Soto Windmaster. Just bought the Stash at Als Sporting Goods with 20% off for their anniversary sale so I don’t feel so bad just keeping the stove portion as a backup.😁
That really does look a superb piece of gear (and the notes don't look too shabby either).
A great look into this kit as always and I absolutely value your view on kit reviews as per your 'T&Cs'
Again, thanks for a great insight and I now have more to consider in my wishlist.
Take care,
Bryan
Heating efficency.... But i name them cooling ribs.. gas off, quick cool down. It's just extra weight...
Hey nice video, thanks for going through the new stove. What cans fits in the lid? I am assuming it’s a 100g canister?
Lovely, thanks for the review. Definitely goes into consideration.
Hey just seen your note in the bothy you left yesterday, I’m a day behind you! I’m doing cape wrath and Skye trail straight after whw, might see you out there somewhere...
I still rely on my MSR Superfly as it can fit Coleman style screw on canisters and also non screw on canisters. Pretty useful when in Europe! I also sometimes use my tiny Vargo Triad meths stove with their insanely ultralight windshield - very peaceful! And meths is more available than gas it seems.
You make such great videos ! Please make more if you can 😃
Another fab review Russ. I swapped my Jetboil flash for a Soto Amicus stove due to weight and size. If only I’d waited a few months! Happy Hiking 🥾- Julia
Thanks Julia! Ahh I’ll have to check that one out! Happy trails!
website says the burner is made from Titanium
I have the older Flash and recently went for the MSR Pocket Rocket Deluxe. I am more than happy with it. Nice design features on this one though, but would have liked in built ignition as well.
Yeah man my mate Impala has just lent me his Jetboil Sol to test. I do really like the built-in piezo ignition and it’s been around the block and looking solid.
The easy way to attach the bottom tripod is to only fold 2 legs out, then attach the canister, then fold out the last leg using it to lock in the canister.
Ooo nice one for the tip!
Spoilers at the end there ;)
its a neat solution
Love this review super handy and informative, I’m looking for a mini stove for my camper so thank you 👍🏼
Thanks Danielle! Glad you found that useful. You got a new sub!
@@thetrailhunter4469 In the summer i walk (no running) alot on european cobblestones, uneven lanes and concrete surfaces (Prague). I have underpronation (not over) and flat feet (unusual combination). So i think the shoes need to have adequate foot support with a max cushioned insoles and durable outsoles with probably some ridges and grooves for excellent grip (protection against uneven cobblestones). Im getting very mixed messages on what shoes to get. From Bondi L or 7 & NB 1080 to Stinson atr 6, Gaviota 3, Terrex free hiker and even Salomon X ULTRA 4. Please help me!! Which shoe do you suggest!!
I like my big jetboil not sure about this little thing. I need to get the scales out and see what's what.
PS love the hat
It should have a bloody ignition source! There passing the buck here. Now thru hikers must carry a fero rod or lighter probably heavier than a sparker! 🤯. Why don’t you remove the handle aswell jetboil? Plus it needs a wind screen. ID rather carry my flash atleast it has everything it needs to work. Good review tho
Most people already carry a lighter anyway. And the fuel ignition source on stoves are a common failure point. I think it's great Jetboil targeted this market, though the price is a bit steep.
@@zacharykuhns6060 most people carry waterproof jackets but I doubt hilleberg will make there tents from mesh to save weight. A stove is not a stove if it cannot do all it’s designed to do from the manufacturer. It’s a cop out in my opinion. To save a few grams! I use jetboil but I won’t pay for this if all I need to do is buy a £10 vango ul stove to use on a pot they own. If they just added the ignition source I’d get it. It’s a complete Cooke source
Until your ignition breaks
@@MTD4dz until your lighter breaks. What’s your point here? You can loose a lighter your not gonna loose your stove. There’s no excuse for not have an ignition source it weighs nothing yet it’s lack leaves the whole stove useless unless your carrying surplus kit.
That looks brilliant to be fair keeping it all together
the gas bottle/lid attachment is genie arse.. otherwise the weight is still over the top
Glad to see a video from you again!
Thanks Taylor. Always a pleasure. 🤙👍
Don't touch this new Stash with a barge pole, and buy the Micromo instead! Its a no brainer! Micromo has same 0.8ltr capacity, and is regulated where the Stash is not. Micromo connects to stove base and can be suspended, Stash cannot. Micromo boils 15 seconds quicker at 2mins 15 secs to Stash's 2mins 30 secs. Micromo has secondary base cup for measuring, or as a second vessel, Stash does not! If you want to use either system as a cup the Micromo has a normal cup style handle with cosy, the Stash has a hugely annoying horizontal handle and no cosy (how naff!). Looking at the RRP the Micromo is typically £110 and the Stash £30 more expensive. Now look at the wider market for similar stoves (you have mentioned the MSR Pocket Rocket Deluxe Kit at £100! which is £40 cheaper than the Stash!!) and you will find a vast array, that will compete with the Micromo on functionality, for half the price!! let alone beat the Stash into oblivion on functionality for 1/3 (Look at Alpkit systems!!) of the price!! What is Jetboil thinking! They must be so out of touch with reality its incredible!!..ok so a caveat to all this, if you really are that anal about saving 5oz, or 140g to sacrifice so much feature and functionality, and pay through the nose for it, go right ahead, but by the time you add a lighter/firesteel + wind screen that weight saving claimed will be next to nothing...and what the heck is so ingenious about being able to clip the cannister to the lid! Absolutely pointless!!
I think this is an attempt to go where jetboil doesn't need to go. I have several stoves including the regulated jetboil similar to what you have there that I can pare with a cup for a crazy tiny and light load. Have the snow peak as well as the smallest old version of jetboil . It was the Flash Lite. I can't leave it at home. its so easy, fast and simple requiring no wind screen....which is always my issue with the others. Jetboil is the best and worth a cpl extra ozs. Thanks for the vid.
