Awesome to see mountain bikes getting dirt jump recognition. I used to jump with my 24 and 26 inch when I was a HS teenager back in like 2002-2004 because my mom couldn't afford a BMX bike as my friends were bmx'ers. I was the only one doing it but it was so fun. So to see a "dirt jump mountain bike" be a thing is really cool 👊🏾👌🏾

Would love to see a video on how to best get started on a DJ bike. What type of slopes are the safest, best type of park to get started on and just some pointers on how to get going without breaking the cranium! I just got my DJ bike at lofty age of 41. Trying to figure out how to ride it without dying first. Already had a gnarly crash dropping in incorrectly on a pavement berm at local pump track.

I've decided to build a DJ rig but I'm curious as to what's the differences in fork types? I understand most DJ's are generally set up with either an 80mm, 100mm or a 120mm fork but what's the between a DJ specific fork vs a regular MTB fork with the same amount of travel???. Are the stations wider like a longer travel fork but with much less stroke length? are the air chamber internals set up for a stiff setup only? Basically, what makes a DJ specific fork different -if at all- from all other forks?

Blake - Could you do a video on "5 or 10 Dirt Jump Bikes to consider"? I'm thinking about getting one, and don't know where to start, so a video on a few cheap, medium and expensive options would work for all. I want one to learn to jump and to use on decent pump tracks like the one at the 417 Fly Up project, so reference to what bike suits what usage would help too. Cheers. P.S. Saw the video of you and Steve Peat 'manualing' at Ashton Court the other week - funny. Cheers.

DJ bike was my dream bike. After 15 years later i finally got my custom DJ bike. With all CrMo parts (frame fork crank hubs etc) i literally cried when i finished to build that bike.
Man i was so poor when i was teen, from low-ball family. I only had $30 bmx with all iron/steel parts that heavy as hell, freewheel (no cassette), standard HT, heavy one piece crank etc. Everything vintage stuff but at worst quality

Awesome video! I'm a beginner in dirt jumping, and I'm improving fast! But there are always other things I want to try along with the dirt jump practice, and some of those things include practicing street trials.
So I've been thinking... It SEEMS to me like a dirt jumper's geometry is similar to a proper trials bike (not the seatless competition ones... I mean like Insipired Bikes, for example). I know the handlebars on a trials bike like that are somewhere between dirt jump and BMX for extra reach when doing tricks like up to rear... etc. BUT apart from that...
Q: Apart from suspension forks and handlebars, how different are dirt jumpers and street trials bikes in areas of the geometry like BB height or wheelbase/reach (or other areas) that might matter to a beginner?
I feel like I can do both jumping and trials practice on a single bike like a dirt jumper with the fork locked out... until I get good enough at trials to invest in an actual trials bike with a fully rigid fork. Can you shed some light on this for me??

Can you have a dirt jump bike with a 9 gear rear casette so you can properly climb on trails or is it better to stick with a single speed casette on both front and back?
