Cruise ships might be the worst transportation ever invented. Not because they *don't* work as intended, but because they *do*
I'd barely call them a mode of transport, you just stay on them without really doing much off the ship. With so many amenities, anywhere you get off at will be a downgrade, at least if you're the type of person who _would_ go on a cruise in the first place.
An aquatic tower of babel comes to mind when they bring god into it
Not much of an ark though, too high of a centre of gravity.
You left out the best part, November calling the robot bartender a Vending Machine.

Ah yes, Via Rail tablet. If you thought your knockoff not-an-iPad was bad, this one is slow, unreliable, expensive, and still has to give way to the 10,000 car unit running the entire agricultural product of Saskatchewan to a port on the East coast.
The tablet equivalent of that is turning off wifi connectivity because someone somewhere in the country is using a dialup modem.
And despite it having a touch screen, the OS is entirely text-based apart from the on-screen keyboard, complete with funcion keys.
It’s actually just a dumb terminal connected to an ancient desktop running CP/M off 8” floppies.

One of my favorite bits from my favorite episode. I keep going back to the Costa Concordia because the entire disaster is hilarious and because cruise ships are awful.

Yeah, but if you don’t like the pace of getting served by a vending machine that looks like it was stolen from a car factory for ants, you can just go to any of the several other booze spots they are sure to have every 30 feet.

So what I got is the Tower of babel was the ancient equivalent of a modern cruise ship and most certainly had several swimming pools , a zip line, and a theater. Also it was the fourth rock wall that went over the line and was the impetus for God confusing the peoples languagess.
It was when they stopped climing rock walls to deliver building materials and started doing it for fun that God was like 'that's it, I'm inventing the Italian language'

Yep. I can see and acknowledge all the problems with cruise ships, but ever since I watched a film in 1997, I had a dream to be on a big ship in the middle of the ocean, and cruise ships are the most economical way to fulfill that dream.

Imagine paying tousands of dollars to get every disease knows to man and some that aren’t.
Turns out cruise ships aren’t emulating the lavishness of 1920s ocean liners- they’re going for early modern era century voyages of discovery, but with fauna slightly smaller and deadlier than dodos.

Yeah, I looked it up and thought 'it's not _that_ bad, it's just an early 2000s car.
The _Multipla_ however...
I went on a cruise once to Havana, in the short span of time we Americans could do so.
Luckily, it was one of the older, smaller ships in Norwegian’s fleet, so by a few metrics (as in compared to Carnival’s flagship) it wasn’t nearly as bloated and horrific as it could have been.
Overall cruise ships to me are 4/10 and we’d do a lot better with just the traditional ocean liners restored, I daresay also as a budget alternative to transoceanic flights.
I wonder how much faster you could make modern ocean liners to make them competitive enough against airliners. What would a CityNerd-esque curve on that look like?
@@CamstonIsland I would be satisfied if ocean liners remained at SS _United States_ speeds (40 mph or around there); the main benefit would be capacity, even if it would still be slower than planes every time. Each one needs to be large enough to carry thousands in relative comfort over a few days’ journey, and if departing from port every four hours might be able to carry a lot of people.
We might be able to bring tickets down to $10 one-way.
