Hi, it takes years of quality education and then years of hands-on work experience to get to a good level of understanding desgin. As a start, it is most important to have a strong concept in mind, beyond the project brief. What are you trying to achieve with the building. Is it a symbol that should stand on its own? Is it supposed to fit seamlessly in its context? Is it more about the public space in between the buildings? Is it more about framing a specific view like a mountain, a water body, or a landmark?
