- How the escalating war in Myanmar & the rise of Arakan Army as well as the resurgent insurgencies in the country is threatening regional crises & could reignite conflicts in Northeast. In this episode of ThePrint #SecurityCode, Praveen Swami looks at how the Arakan insurgency has grown over the last decade & why India needs to push the pace of long-stalled negotiations with insurgent groups in the North-East, or risk the hard-won peace being undermined.

As someone who lives in the US and reads a bunch of globally respected publications, this is the only place where I learnt that there is a war going on in Burma.
Thank you!
This ongoing war has been neglected for too long. More and more people are flooding in India via NE states. Mainly as refugees, but thats just an excuse to smugle drugs, unregistered gold bars, and many more. The numbers keep rising everyday as we speak.
Great analysis, rare to find such reports in National Media. Mr Praveen Swamy kudos to talk about often neglected region and its insurgency.
No matter what happens don't allow Rohingyas into India... BJP don't behave like Congress... We r watching...full India is watching

While Shekhar Ji ends his ctc with a short story, Praveen begins with one! Excellent coverage of the issue along with extrapolation of its implication over north east.
Very enlightening video. I hope those being oppressed will continue fighting until they prevail. Long live the oppressed✊✊💪💪💪
Important information very nicely explained by you sir... 👍👍👍

Kudos to Mr Swami for uncluttering a complex problem.
Thanks Mr. Praveen Swami.

I still believe that India & Cambodia as the Chairman of ASEAN must together try to relaunching an approach to reach a new roadmap for peace negotiation, but all the generals must have a guarantee for their safety lives !!! And new faces must be represented for a dialogue without interferring from china or the west, so that the atmosphere cannot be strengthen !!!
Thanks for covering the region in such a detailed manner. I second the proposition here to hasten the peace negotiation with NE insurgents, mainly NSCN-IM (considered the mother of all insurgent groups in NE). The Nagas by and large wants a peace deal even at the cost of ignoring Muivah's unreasonable demand of greater nagaland, separate flag, and separate Naga constitution.
No country will allow formation of 'a country within the country'.
Ethnic insurgents should look for a democratic solution rather than being fa$cists.
They should ask for rights as Mayanmar citizens rather than seperate ethnic groups.
This basic conflict in Myanmar has the military (Tatmadaw) in collaboration with Buddhist Bamar Monks, largely from Mandlay, using each other to keep Myanmar "pure" and free of non Buddhists.
The two other angles in the conflict are non -Buddhist ethnic armed organisations (EAOs), and the third angle are pro-democracy activists, the NLD and pro-democracy ethnic groups which are aligned with NLD.
Daw Aung San Su Kyi miscalculated that she will be able to win over the military leadership to democracy. The NLD which won two elections under the 2008 Constitution drafted by the military, she could not get the military to amend even one of the over 50 clauses which perpetuate military's Legislative and Executive control over key Ministries
India diplomats in wanting to back the "winner" have again backed Myanmar military for short term gain against democratic values. Indian policy should avoid encouraging Military. Public by and large are disappointed by India's support for the Junta, and place India along with China and Russia as countries seeking opportunities in strife and turmoil.

I oppose letting channel migrants enter the uk but I think the uk should let in a few ten thousand Rohingyas in coxes bazar to alleviate pressure.
Surprisingly 90 percent of the mainland Indians never knew of states like Nagaland or Assam or Manipur or any other north eastern states.

I feel like India should be provide logistic and intel assistance to the rebel forces for securing resistance victory, this is a long, pointless and bloody war and could've been dealt with smartly by India's help. If managed to establish a intelligence network after rebel victory could provide us with valuable intel on Chinese intrusions or presence in the myanmer area. China is already have certain schemes involving Mynmar against us, a good gesture from outside can change the tides of advantage towards us if played smartly.
Myanmar is like afghanistan in constant civil war, even before the military junta coup de ta and democracy government in myanmar. The thing is majority afghans support taliban for unification and peace in afghanistan. In myanmar there are 100s of separatists and rebel groups. There are no singular unification force like taliban with public support.
@@defence3355 so whos fault so many separatists and rebel groups in Myanmar,? its the evil uk and us...

Your style of english from our colonial times. The heavy use of passive voice sounds so unnecessarily pedantic that it makes me go nuts. It's like someone using jargons because he fails to speak with simple meaning. Why don't you just simplify the telling?
