The only dude that can play polyphia cleaner than they can.
uhhh they play it clean lol
I know brother, just stressing this dude can play as clean if not better. Wasn't saying polyphia can't play their stuff live or taking anything away from them. Merely just complimenting someone who clearly put hundreds of hours learning these insane riffs so perfect.
Do you see the cloth in the fretboard near the nut? That should tell you why 😂
My g 💕
Jaysus god forbid you try to say something nice in the RUclips comments 💀💀
Tim and Scottie are fucking monsters for creating all of this
Fr
damn, scottie has come a long way with his covers
Lmao Scottie in disguise
what up Scottieeee
Watching him play 40oz was sick asf
Ty 🤘🏻
5:00 you are correct, in his 'the making of' video, Tim showed how he used the omnisphere arpeggiator to write that ending riff, saying it was somewhat hard trying to map it onto guitar.
Oh it was just omnishpere? So one else was saying it was the omnichord but omnisphere makes more sense for sure
@@JonLui used omnichord to make main riff
that riff was pretty spherical tho, josh peck would approve
I doubted that at first, but I guess its true
@@JonLui if i recall i think he used an omnichord to make the notes then put that original piece into omnisphere
That riff from The Worst is still my favorite they’ve written, I love it.
Same , It doesnt sound like flex , just a simple riff with good melody
It's definitely one of the best sounding ones. I think it's one of the first polyphia riffs I heard which made me appreciate them.
That hand gesture at the end. I felt that. Nearly done with Playing God.
Nobody every gets the arpeggiator riff from Playing God 100% right (not even Tim when he plays it live a lot of the time), but yours was the cleanest I've seen by far on RUclips.
Check ichika nito's cover
absolutely insane, incredibly clean through every riff. you’re a monster keep that shit up man.
TY SO MUCH !!
Jon Lui, this guy is great. I love his originals
Thanks a million !! :’)
I knew Ego Death would be on here, and omg you played it flawlessly. It's my favorite Polyphia song of all time
Icronic and the neurotica ending were insanely clean Omds
Thanks sm homie 🫶
I’m an immediate fan after hearing Deja Vu for the 1st time, song goes too hard! 🔥
Lfg thanks sm ! 🤘🏻💕
Absolutely phenomenal mate!! This is legit one of the cleanest if not the cleanest cover of polyphia songs ive ever seen on youtube!!
I watched this last night on my TV and had to come back and say you are severely underrated, with polyphia's music and your own. I was surprised when I went to your Spotify and you have less than 1k monthly listeners. You're crazy good and deja vu is awesome too, gonna listen to all of your originals now! keep up the great work!
Bro, your new track hit hard, keep it up!!
Btw neurotica riff is saucy, love it so much
Great job man, you had some of the cleanest covers of their songs I’ve heard so far. Not sure about all the others but I just started learning 40oz and it’s difficult af so I can’t image how much practice it took to get all of these clean (also learned the worst but that one was a lot easier.)
Slow the living heck out of it, it's a simple pattern once you learn it but just hard to execute perfectly
First of all, I'm no guitar player but I know how to strum the damn thing (sort of), and I know for a fact that their riffs were ultra complicated, but never really understood what specific factor or technique made them almost unplayable for the average guitar player, this cleared up my mind and now I have so much more respect for how they're able tu pull this off live... this is just countless hours of practice and YOU MY LAD, have done a magnificent job learning those monstrosities!
Massive respect, holy smokes... keep it up lad!
That outro riff is demonic. It’s the control they have on the harmonics that I find hardest. You really pulled that off well my man 👏👏
Man you really just absolutely slayed some of the hardest music played on the guitar today, and made most of it look effortless.
Melted my brain with this one; gonna go stream all your original music just on principle 💯
Excellent work my man. Some of the cleanest covers ive seen.
That was all so good! I recommend learning the long slide into the 14th fret in the Playing God riff, which is followed by a harmonic on the 12th. I used to play it like you, but it makes a big difference!
wow I really enjoyed your original at the end! i added it on my playlist on spotify awesome man!
dope video man, but i gotta say im glad you plugged your song at the end because i've had it on repeat nonstop bro lmao, keep up the good work
Aaah means so much to me homie thank you 🤘🏻💕
I’m so happy you put OD on here! Love the song and I’m actually using it for an audition soon!
Also you’re amazing, as a drummer I have no clue how hard this is, but it looks cool
Those flutters on neurotica were nasty af!
I was very happy with the second last one haha had a lil bit of a squeal on it
And ty homie 🫶
this video was awesome dude! Great work, keep it up!
nice effort dude, you rock. well done. and also, deja vu was insane!!!
@JonLui, this video was incredibly amazing! 40oz, playing God, and even ABC sounded so clean, Im legit in tears, bro. Plus, how do I refrain myself from getting hand cramps every 5 minutes? You played 6 songs before getting one, which surprise me since you went into HardCore Mode ! ❤
Man this just inspired the hell out of me. Ive just learned the intro to Playing God, and it was my introduction song into hybrid picking as well as natural harmonics (in the way that Tim uses them specifically) as well as the concept of flamenco guitar. it took 1 day to learn the intro and nearly two months later, I still cant quite play it cleanly at speed. I have a way to go, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel! Maybe one day I'll be able to cover this entire video
what a banger of a video and a cutie of a cat! haha fr though, this was the cleanest I've seen anyone play any of these riff. Well done!
super interesting to see the finger action up close and focused...it's hypnotic
You're insane dude great work. My brain melted a little bit just watching you do this. (Also, super adorable cat)
I think what would've been a good fit here is Nightmare. The two handed tapping part is a tricky one to get down right and fluidly
he probably doesnt have an 8 string
@@carlchameleon9847 just an honourable mention
Hmmm I thought I checked this one, people seem to agree with you anyway, probably could have been there instead of chimera for sure
Got the omen 8 brother
@@JonLui That's true, could've swapped either to be fair man
The sweeping for 40.oz looks like your left hand is some alien shit. That was so smooth and creepy at the same time
The deja vu ending riff sounds soo good. thanks for including it ill learn it asap
Get it!
Man you slayed all of these great job!
This guy is so insanely talented.
That neurotica riff is probably my favorite riff in the entire album. Your tone and playing was spot on 👌
Awh thanks so much, I loooove that type of hybrid picking it’s kind of basic compared to outro of playing god kind of hybrid picking
legendary playing but bro that cat at the end!!!!
Lilly stole the show Ngl hahah
great playing man!
I agree with the most part!
For me Ego Death is #1, and outro of G.O.A.T. and thumping in the middle of Bloodbath also can be top10
btw I like your way of using hybrid in Playing God :)
You can switch ego death and playing god around and I’d be happy w it, ego death riff was genuinely so hard play clean, it took ages 😩
And thanks !! I preferred to hybrid pick it all instead of going in and out of sweeping and hybrid picking like they do
I love u, I'm a beginner, now u have forced me to never give up on the guitar. Barre Chords still suck@@JonLui
Bro you are a MONSTER player. So glad I stumbled across your channel.
Amazing playing. Super clean. I was surprised Playing God was the number 1 pick as I found it easier than than other Polyphia riffs I've tried. But I only learnt the famous intro, that outro looks rough.
Ty and yeah the outro riff kinda puts it above the rest tbh, I hybrid pick it all and the string pattern for the picking hand is insane , but that being said the ego death riff is probably just as hard
man playing these riffs is crazy enough but imagine composing they are geniuses
Frfr
Mate, my hats off, genuinely, i've been practising a couple of those riffs for years, haven't gotten as close to having them as clean as you have. But I do feel obliged to mention you're missing some of the flavor in GOAT, I would recommend taking another look at that one, other than that, insane playing, I can only hope to achieve this in the near future.
I think the Playing God riff was actually written digitally and then Tim tried to recreate the attempts with his fingers. This might be totally wrong but I think they mentioned it somewhere
REAL
Also also, Tim has mentioned in the past that generally a lot of the time, his riff writing ends up digital at some point, for instance the bell melody in G.O.A.T, the arpeggiated melody in playing god, or a lot of his covers like, his take on pony by ginuwine, or his short little instrumental on yt called blood moon, a lot of Tim’s writing starts with a pad chord progression or some other form of midi chord progression 😁
Your left hand is crazy dude!! I react to its movement like seeing a posterising dunk!
Hahah ty so much
amazing fking video dude, i saw another video that was similar as this but ur playing was x100 times better than that one since it was basically up to speed and you didnt leave out the hard riffs
This is not only a great cover but an amazing cover. You did a really fantastic job. Are you using NDSP Henson Archetype only?
Great playing
Thanks!
like you thought, the playing god outro was wrote by an omichord
great video btw, super clean playing
The Omnichord that’s so interesting I didn’t know it was and arpeggiator, And thanks homie 🙏🏻
you are an absolute legend for being able to play all of these...i would probably replace The Worst with Bloodbath but thats probably a me things because i learned the worst with tabs and bloodbath by ear.
Top hardest polyphia riffs: *all of them*
LFMAO
40oz basically just looks like aggressively molesting a guitar. The sound plus the way it looks when its played. its so damn smooth yet so in your face. you are way too good btw, i better go get back to practicing if i wanna try and catch up to you maniacs.
That’s one way to describe it lol you got this homie keep constistent!
u r talented bro apreciate it
Thanks so much homie!
self plug lord
Self plug gang 😎
One of the best guitarist I have ever seen!!
THANKS MARK!!!
Crazy clean man
Thank v much brother
I’ve been learning pretty much all of these too + some. Totally related with the timing on ABC and 40Oz lol!!
Such hard riffs fr 😭
Wow, amazing job man
Thanks brother !
this is like those "nice day for skateboarding videos, then you go outside and see the tricks everyone else is doing
😂😂😂😂
Dude! Fucking sick! 10 riffs ill never be able to play 🤣
Ah you never know bro !!! Thanks haha
bro your technique is amazing
Are some parts sped up or is it just weird frame rate? Insane covers for all of these btw. Even if they're played slower they're still ridiculously difficult
Def not sped up, I’ll be posting all the raw clips on my Twitter ! Thanks homie 🫶
@@JonLui awesome stuff dude
This video goes hard 🔥. Btw can u pls make a tutorial vid for the worst?
Youre amazing.. I hope i could play like you someday
I know only a handful of these, but to me it's
1. Goat (the taping pattern is weird and was hard to combine with the octave slides + hammer on, and the sweep picking is tough)
2. Playing god (i to this day can't play it with perfect timing, everything else is pretty easy, but the timing is confusing to me)
3. Worst (second part of the riff is tough with all the slides and pull ofs, and hammer ons, very tricky to get up to original tempo)
4. Chimera (the easiest one, no confusing tempo or combination of techniques back to back, and if you are like me prefer hybrid picking, then it really is an easy riff)
5. Goose intro (only the fast alternate picking at the end is hard, with confusing timing
Now attempting to learn neurotica, and it is by far the hardest. Very big stretches played very fast, and the left hand fingering is not obvious at all
the end of playing god looks nasty - interesting note about the arp writing process, makes a lot of sense
Man o man! You got some skills for sure. Its much harder to play other people's music than your own so yes tim is mad good for writing but it takes severe talent to learn and reproduce someone elses stuff and at this level. How do you learn these riffs? Tabs piece by piece taking it slowly? I play the intros to goose and the worst but they need work to be pristine. The hybrid run on the worst is challenging to get fluid.
The polyphia riffs are impressive and all but your song at the end absolutely fucks, I love the bouncy jazz section so much. Keep fucking rockin dawg 🤘.
impressive work
Thanks 😊
your riff is awesome man.
Ah thanks a lot brother
man your riff was the best of the lot
I agree. Playing god gave me the hardest time of the lot.
Mostly just getting it to sound smooth and clean is what takes so long
Your technicality beyond everyone bro
Mad respect, dude
Ty homie 🙏🏻
Absolutely for the Hardest polyphia riffs was O.D song
you just earned a sub my guy
your skill is very inspiring
Bro this literally sounds like the originals, you must've trained hard for this
For sure wasn’t an easy one ! Tried to get each riff as clean as possible :)
Fun fact, the arpeggio section in the second half of 40oz was recorded alternate picking instead of sweep picking
Gotta have been slowed down tho when they recorded it
what a flex of guitar skill
The yt is even thinking you are copyrighting songs damn bro gg
really great vid hope u blow up
Neurotica up stroke was clean asf
Thanks homie Neurotics riff is a lotta fun, I was really happy with the pinch harmonic on some of those octave chords !
I'm a simple old man. If I see someone actually playing Polyphia as they do it, I instantly push Subscribe.
Nothing sounds better than a Strat imo i love the sort of twang they have it sounds so good its the same sort of thing that makes a jazz bass sound so good one day ill get a good strat to put next to my American Elite Jazz bass
insane
My g 😤
I was listening to your deja vu song when I was fighting the final boss of Sekiro: shadows die twice and I beat him. I love you and your deja vu song
Is it that old grandpa? Isshin or something
Great playing man, what did you use to get the tones?
Neuraldsp :)
And thanks homie 🫶
This shocked me dude!
FIRE!
I can only play Chimera rn but want to learn Ego Death after I get 6 more months of practice and an electric guitar. It's my favourite riff ever.
the way he throw the pick after playing the outro of playing god got me rolling on the floor
OD is the only riff I've ever sat down to and completely noped out after 10 minutes
Deja vu sounds majestic.
MY BRO TY !!🫶
Jon can you please give some advice on how to get that tone on Playing God on your electric? I still haven't figured out how to get anything good on my electric for it and I do have the Tim Henson Archetype plug in, still learning how to use it apparently.
In Tim’s plug-in he has a preset made called the “w6rst nylon” i think, that’s as close as you can get without acc buying a nylon guitar
The 40oz one is so satisfying to watch omg
Ah yes GOAT, the only riff that has ever made me consider quitting guitar just because of that stupid quick run in the intro lmao but I do have it down better than I used to so I guess we’re good now
