    I love the math you did analyzing the chord structures. Had no idea that only two started with the one that’s crazy

    • @peadookie
      @peadookie 7 месяцев назад +6

      That’s called a “mode”. There’s a mode for every time you play the major scale starting on a note different than the 1. Eg, the harmonic minor scale is actually the major scale starting on the 6. So A minor is actually c major, but starting on the 6, rather than the 1.

    • @deejay7339
      @deejay7339 7 месяцев назад +20

      Starting on the IV is not really a mode, since you can play modes over the IV. It's simply just starting on the IV. Modes are for melody, while the roman numeral system is relative to the harmonic center. @@peadookie

    • @BattousaiMLT
      @BattousaiMLT 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@peadookie its the nashville number system its not math or modes its just the order of the chord based on its key, once you learn this it makes figuring out songs a lot easier. At least for most pop style stuff ,it starts getting a little complicated when you listen to more complex jazzy stuff. But its an incredibly powerful tool to figure out songs and also to communicate with other musicians in a session or for improvising etc.

    • @FacuGuitarra
      @FacuGuitarra 7 месяцев назад

      @@deejay7339modes are not for melody only.

    • @peadookie
      @peadookie 7 месяцев назад

      I think what I said may have been misinterpreted here. The Nashville number system is exactly what I was using to describe modes, which, yes, are the major scale when starting from another note. It’s a _modality_ of playing the major scale. That’s why you can play a related major scale over Phrygian, for example.

    I have always had a tough time finding chords around a specific note (chord melodies) without spending several minutes on it. Like, I've learnt the inversions for chords by heart with the relevant scale notes on the high e string - the minor 7, major 7, dominant 7 chords. Check out SGL with Jared's chord series they're great - but I still have a long way to go before I can do the same thing on the other high strings (G and B), let alone while switching between different chords so fluently. I've been learning guitar for a few months now and I'm only a third of the way there to where I want to be lol, at least it's measurable progress.
    It feels weird kind of learning all the chord tones up and down the neck but it's really helping with my playing ability. Maybe I'll learn to sweep pick lol.

    • @ZachMcCordProg
      @ZachMcCordProg 7 месяцев назад

      Sounds like you're already doing pretty good for a few months tho. I've been playing for 5 years and if you asked me 4 years ago what a dom7 chord was I would've said whaaaat? - tbf until Animals as Leaders changed my life I was listening to pretty basic chug chug metalcore so I wouldn't have known that stuff anyways. Sounds like you're on a good track already, especially if you've only been playing for a few months. And yes do learn to sweep! It can either be super cliche and generic or refreshing and creative. Just depends what you do with it.

    • @ZachMcCordProg
      @ZachMcCordProg 7 месяцев назад

      So you're saying you're having a hard time finding chords that go with a specific note? Is that what you mean? Like if you gave a melody and you want to write comping/harmony/chords behind it?

    • @mrtoast244
      @mrtoast244 7 месяцев назад

      @@ZachMcCordProg yeah, I find it hard finding the right chord to play where the highest note is the melody note. If you know the chord to play and what note should be played in the melody, assuming it's a part of the chords scale it's technically pretty straight forward to find the correct inversion, you just pick the notes of the chord with the melody on top, but the part that's difficult for me is doing so on the fly like more experienced guitarists like Danny or Tim/Scott can. This is because I don't know all the inversions and chord tones up and down the neck like someone with 10 years experience would, so I have to spend like 5-10 minutes working out a single chord.
      I feel like being able to do that really gives you a lot of freedom while playing. I've found that even being able to do this for the high e string has improved my playing but that took a like a month of effort to learn properly.

    Thank you for your analysis! I couldn't analyze it properly myself, but It proves my idea that Polyphia is very influenced by Japanese music although they might not be too vocal about it.
