Every german president should do that once a year. It needs to be a tradition.
Looking at the current leaders and what they do, I think their goal is rather to destroy the country.
If I'd be president I probably wouldn't be doing anything else than this
Nice apart from they have a chancellor
@@SSHHABBA They have both
@@danieldorn9989 oh
"Yes, of course, we have winter tires on our 917"... 😅
Haha, brilliant!
I think there have rain tires but never ever snow tires!! So big snow tires have no one built i now!1😉
@@r.blacky341 They used rain tyres as "snow tires", because they had a coarse tread and snow was only expected at 2 or 3 sections of the track (length of the Nordschleife is 20,832 km (12,94 mi), vertical high is 300 m (984 ft)).
@@Nitramrec yes! my home is very next to the Nordschleife 50km away from my home Koblenz! I drive 40years in pass with my 50ccm moto bike over the Nordschleife! Than with my Opel-Manta,and next year with my BMW 323i i race the Nürburgring, but i dont now the track with so much curves, but it was very dangeres for me and my car,but i have no crash, but it was only Lucky for me,that i dont crash my BMW 323i!!(now my age are 58 years) sorry for my bad english best wish Reiner from Germany
That is probably the most German response to the most sensible question in utterly absurd circumstances.
How did they expect that 58 hp truck to get around a snowy and bumpy old Nordschleife in under 20 mins?!
I think they just didn’t want to wait for too long in the cold.
@@BSport320 Thank you for this video, very well made 👍
possibly as excuse that it's not safe enough since they went off and that they should leave
I think there need 30-40min around the track!😉
Don't knock off that 58hp. Its the torque that matters on a truck.
I once worked on Super Trucks and witnessed them running on a snowy Dijon circuit and thought that was impressive. But 1100hp round a snowy Nordschleife with your president in the almost passenger seat is just something else. Brilliant story!
Complete madness, I can't believe this happened in Germany. Had it been Italy, I wouldn't be surprised
Those were the 1970s. Glorious days. Germany has changed drastically since then
Yea but they would have crashed!
@@simonb6982back when we still had imaginations
@@steviechampagne ...and schnapps.
ive seen the pictures of the 917 in the snow before, but never knew the damn president was the passenger. awesome
I've had a bad day. This story cheered me up immensely
We need this type of leadership today. No seatbelt, no traction, no problem. Thanks for recounting the tale.
Never heard of that great story, big thanks! Didn’t know what a savage Heinemann was…
This was brilliant.
Thank you for retelling this fantastic event
German President sees his security officers in a truck in a ditch scrambling for their weapons, driver slams on the brakes, whole car spins 360° and he gives the driver the thumbs up. Man.
The guy has TWO doctors in his name!
The guy listens to the video narration - just like we listened to the narration - and then repeats in his comment the key events of an incident from the video.
🤷🏼♂️
@@AsinineComment ok
@@BluSTi : there's loads of "Doctor! Doctor!" jokes
@@BluSTi Germans. People all over the world have multiple doctorates, but only Germans insist on saying Dr Dr.
That was an amazing story! Thank you so much for sharing it. I really wish there was movie footage of the 917 driving in the snow. Cheers from Canada.

I heard that story the first time in an interview with Willy Khausen. He is such a funny guy
What a great story! Driving that beast of a car in the snow, on the Nordschleife...wow
WOW!!! wow wow wow wow wow.... WOW!!!
I'm so happy that I found your channel. Awesome content!
"Can we drive another lap?" I love it.
What a wonderful story! Two thumbs up for the President!
How haven’t I heard of this.
I guess it’s not really known in the English speaking motorsport world, so now you have it😅
Awesome story. Just imagine that today. The no seatbelts part just takes it to a totally another level! Crazy! 😅
... Both are Men of my own heart .... We Live !
This is the most heartwarming automotive story I've heard all year. Thank you!
The driver and the president are Gigachads
It's a great story, they both had big balls, what great guys!
I love this STORY.
This story made me literally "lol" - thank you so much for sharing - what a President!
President Gustav Heinemann was 74 years old at the time of that ride, and he was 46 years old in 1945 when the WW2 ended. Those two facts are making me not wonder at all, why he enjoy the ride so much, despite being unbelted in open top 917, on snowy Nordshleife.

What a very cool Story, the Nürburgring is 50km from my home, but this story i never now! Thank you to share with us!! Sorry for my bad english best wish Reiner from Germany
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a totally different time and just a few decades ago. Brilliant.
Now they won't give strong enough painkillers for a 96-year-old, because they might become addicted... Different times indeed.
A better time in many ways.
That car is genuinely stunning. Unrestricted engineering.
I miss can am so much.
Willi Kauhsen is a legend.
Seems like you're familiar with "Alte Schule" where you can listen to several multiple hour long interviews with him (in German). Some of his stories happened in Canada, some in Italy. But the best happened at the Nordschleife.
Stimmt. Ist ein alter Hut.
@@rogerwilliamson7161 Trotzdem schön, dass es mal auf Englisch erzählt wird.
@@doubleT84 Stimmt auch.
The world needs more presidents like that!
Those were real man. Don’t know whom to admire more, the President or driver. 917 was OG car called The Widowmaker. Even on dry tarmac it was almost impossible to drive full throttle. Imagine it was n the snow and with that responsibility. Driver was the origin of the GigaChad. That President asking for another lap while freezing and giving the thumbs up after full spin was super cool. I was born in 1971. I remember cars and man from 70’s. Pant sleeves covering shoes and redicilous facial hair. But very macho and real man. Driving bikes with no helmet. Remember family member coming to visit us in the Ford Capri 2.8. He was dressed like a pimp and his girlfriend was like woman from the recording of the original Woodstock. Every time he would go with his car he would peal off and leave the tire marks. Both laughed. I was little boy in the aw.
Fantastic story, the President was a REAL MAN, and this is true history.
Yes!! That is an amazing story! Thank you for sharing that.
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a bad ass president and what a cool driver! Thumbing their nose at bureaucratic BS. It’s beautiful.
Excellent story I'd never heard before!!
Doctor Doctor Heinemann sounded like a wild man. I love him.
Awesome story. Merry Christmas everyone 🎄
Wow that's fascinating! I've always wondered about that picture, it made no sense!!
Nice. I have the 1:18 Modelcar❤️
Happy "Weihnachtszeit" 😂
Lol, great story!!! I bet those old dodgy suite's we're messing there proverbial pants!!!!!!! But I must say I was a bit shocked when you said they hit 155 mph that's fast on a dry track and no belt.?.? Sounds like the president was a brave soul!!!
Yes, I mean it was his birthday wish.
Knowing the president was going to be sitting in this vehicle, I wonder why nobody at the time had the seat altered, or at least some belts fitted?
Can Am cars were amazing. The most powerful road racing cars to date. Racing tires of the day didn't have the grip of a modern all season tire. I went to every Can Am, and F1 race weekend at Mosport. Despite being in Canada, there was never any snow.
That was fun, thanks.
Insane, that must have been a hell of a lap
Sounds like a freakin’ blast to me!
Wonderful story!!
Excellent!

"The President-- of the whole country??"
Outstanding!

im going to listen to these stories before going to bed from now on
Brilliant. Health and safety would never allow that these days. 👍👍👍
Amazing story!
Hey Misha, glad you enjoyed it!
Marvelous story!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing.. but what I really can’t understand is that they even send a truck to check the track and forest for terrorists (!) but started anyway before its arrival or report haha..
Großartiger Channel ;)
Because the president said so. Even as a bodyguard, there is a point when you stop arguing with your boss and let him take the risks he will take
That was a very cool story. I have never heard about this and I have loved racing since I was a little kid and I hate other sports that kids play football, baseball, soccer, etc. So I am pretty dedicated to motor sports, dangerous and amazing machines. Big brass balls to take that car with the president of the country around the green hell and at some point going 155mph, just nucken futs
Who knew President Dr. Dr. Gustav Heinemann was such a legend?
Wow, crazy story! Very interesting.
Great story! 😊👍

an old friend had a race car like that when he got drunk he would race it around the farm fields .
