Ya, it's everywhere!! 🙂😀
I must say I did not really know Holst his music that well, but these songs are great! They are a great inspiration for me, especially now that I am composing my own Songs for voice and piano.
I’d love to hear them :)
This singer is amazing. Thank you for showering us with the blessing of this great performance.
Woooooah. I was just listening to the hymns from the rig veda. What timing
Michael Van Wie Jr. I'm subscribed to Cmaj 7. I said "What timing" because he just uploaded this video as I was listening to the other hymns
Holst never disappoints!
I had never heard of these songs before! Many thanks for posting this beautiful performance of them.
Pretty amazing set, indra is one of my favorite songs, this and his choral pieces for men's choir are such a delight to listen to.
I hadn't yet heard Christopher Maltman in a chamber setting, he's so good! Thanks for posting this.
Wonderful composition and what a pianist!!
It's wonderful and new for me. Music is music. Universal wonder...
Hauntingly Beautiful
Thank you!
On my birthday? Why, thank you!
So cool

As an Indian classical geek I am flabergasted
THAT VOCALIST OH MY GOD
Wow 🤓
The story is that Holst wanted to commit the Hymns from the rig Veda to song, found a translation, and didn't like the translation. He then learned Sanskrit and did his own translation before setting them to music.. My question is simple. If Holst did yet know Sanskrit how did he know that he didn't like the translation. I have performed these. They are very difficult, especially "Creation". You go for so long unaccompanied in this very high level of chromaticism. And then when the accompaniment comes in the soloist is on a C with only accompaniment being octave C's and there is no place to hide.
Yes! Creation is a challenge. But it’s worth of big engagement. This cycle is really great music. 😊
69 bpm lol
As one grown up song Hindus, how are these Vedic though?
Not bad for a Russian composer attempting to capture the style of Hindu hymns through Greco-Roman "classical" imagery. The soundscape is ethereal and lovely.
He was an English composer
@@jonathancullis9155 True, but it gets convoluted. His great-grandfather was a musician in the Russian imperial court, the family were Germans in Latvia before heading to England.
Vedic*
Hindus are the modern worshippers and don't recite these hymns anymore.
(Think of it like Titans vs Gods, it's just a different generational pantheon)
I dont care for the singers swooping up and down on notes where there are no slurs or ties in the original manuscript. Thumbs down. There are better performances out there. This isn't one of them.
Which ones, if you please? Thank you.
Just cus you dont like something about a performance doesn't make it definitively bad. Its a wonderful performance.
The style of the opening passages is improvisatory, by score definition. Swooping is definitely what someone would do while improvising on the fly. Get over yourself.
You are aware that a performer may add ornamentations that are not written in the music, yes? It's pretty common. What a weird thing to complain about....
He was so fucking good!
