    One if their songs called "Time Stands Still (at the iron hill)" from the same album, has the same "different voice style" for different characters. Its soo good. Also badass and epic as hell. Its about Fingolfin, a small but powerful glimmering light in the deep darkness, and he challenges the dark lord Morgoth (basically Satan) to single combat. The way Tolkien wrote it makes every word feel like it has insane weight on them. This Elf King challenges the coward (Morgoth) to a duel, that the lord just can't deny. And at the end of their duel, he permanently maims the devil, making it so that Morgoth has a limp forever. Fingolfin dies, but his spirit survives, as the very few who could take on the Dark Lord. This is just ONE of the amazing monents in Tolkien's work, and Blind Guardian made these stories stand out. Feels like watching a moovie, if you have a good imagination. Simply magnificent.

      As a Tolkien fan, this song is amazing, gives me goosebumps every single time I listen to it and remember the tale.

  • @Nifuruc

    This song is the perfect example, why you sometimes need the full album experience, because before this song starts there is a track where Sauron talks to Morgoth kinda explaining what "into the storm" is about... Not calling names (it's about Ungoliant wanting the silmarils as a payment for what she did for Morgoth) but using beautiful metaphors... "She, the mistress of her own lust!"...
    So if you ever want to go back to the song - listen to "war of wrath" track 1 on the middleearth album! The whole album is an amazing masterpiece, just like the Silmarillion and the more you know about all of this the more you can appreciate the love that went into this project...

    Their most popular songs would arguably be "Mirror Mirror", "Valhalla" and "The Bard's Song (In the Forest)". Or at least you'll likely get recommended those the most. I definitely suggest checking those out in live version though, preferably from their "Imaginations Through the Looking Glass" live concert, as that's probably the best live version of each song overall, when you take both performance and video quality into account. You mentioned you like some more symphonic metal bands, so in that case I'd suggest you check out some of their later stuff, which has a lot more symphonic elements, such as the song "Sacred Worlds". Chances are, if the Blind Guardian fans find you, you'll be recommended a lot of different songs, as the band has evolved a lot over its years, and fans are often very split on what their favourite album/songs are, because their style has changed so much. For reference, they started out as basically thrash/speed metal, and now they have a fully orchestral album coming out that's been in the making for 20+ years, so... yeah.

    They said in an interview that this song was originally about Gollum who wants to have the One Ring back. Later, they had the idea of this whole Silmarillon thing and changed the lyrics. But you can still tell (as you noted) that this was originally about Gollum and the One Ring.

    • @Dantelor

      Where did you read that? I thought that the guys wanted this song to be about Ungoliant and Morgoth from the beginning. Well, still amazing song nonetheless.

    Easiest songs to get into Blind Guardian, for a non-metalhead : The Bard's Song - In The Forest, Lord Of The Rings, A Past And Future Secret, Nightfall, Blood Tears.
    Most popular Blind Guardians songs : Mirror Mirror, Valhalla, And Then There Was Silence, The Bard's Song - In The Forest.
    Favorite Blind Guardian songs of mine (chronologically) : Majesty, The Last Candle, Journey Through The Dark, the Bard's Song - In The Forest, Somewhere Far Beyond, I'm Alive, The Script For My Requiem, Another Holy War, Nightfall, Mirror Mirror, And Then There Was Silence, Battlefield.
    They've got a huge repertoir. They became a lot less thrashy after A Night At The Opera, more "bombastic" I'd say. I think that's why I really don't like the new Blind Guardian era.
    Go with your feeling. You can't miss that much with them anyway.
    Into The Storm is a good song, good riff, good singing, but not elite Blind Guardian IMO. Go with I'm Alive ;)

    The whole album is based on the J.R.R. Tolkien's book "The Silmarillion", this song "Into The Storm" is about how Ungoliath, a giant spider stole the Silmarills, these are objects with intense light that dwell in trees on the Middle Earth, Ungoliath steal these Silmarills for his king, Melkor. Melkor was Sauron's master. Before Sauron became "the big bad" in Lord Of The Rings, there was Melkor, in this song Ungoliath steals the Silmarills and he wants to keep them for himself, but Melkor sends his Balrogs to get the Silmarills for him, the Balrogs are the ones singing "And we are following the will of the one, through the dark age and into the storm".

    Nice reaction, even though it might not be exactly your cup of tea I like that you are still willing to give more a shot! If you want to get an idea of this band live, there is a twofer of The Bard's Song and Valhalla live at Wacken 2016 that is one of my personal favorite live videos. Anything from Imaginations Through The Looking Glass is also a fan favorite. Every fans list of favorite songs looks different so it's hard to say which is their most popular, but I would say And Then There Was Silence is usually near the top of everyone's list. You may not be ready for that one yet though!

    I love the Bass-line in this song - its awsome. Blind Guardian is very nice, the best Power-Metall band of all in my eyes (The Voice of Hansi Kürsch is amazing , Guitars by André Olbrich who is ranked #64 in Joel McIver's The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists. André's guitar work often reflect's vocalist Hansi Kursch's singing. Marcus Siepen is the Rythm Guitarist. Bass and Drums changed over the Years (at the beginning of the Band The Singer Hansi played Bass.)) and very diverse in their Songs. Dont know which to suggest next for you. Maybee you will try something soft : The Bards song(in the forrest) or Skalds and shaddows, or maybe youll find it worth to hear something fast and loud: so try out Time stands still or Another Stranger me. Or will you hear Fim and Games-music? Then it will be: Children of the Smith, Curse my name or Sacred World. And the last suggestion is Symphonic-Power_Metall with theyr two Masterpieces: ...and then there was silence (14:08 min) or Wheel of time (8:57). Long Speech short sense: this was a nice reaction done by you: THX for this.

    Blind Guardian is often just called a power metal band but as time went on they became more and more prog, nowadays I wouldn't call their music power metal anymore, it's more prog metal mixed with some power metal elements, but also lots of symphonic stuff.
    even a lot of their older stuff is definitely very much prog metal influenced. they often had songs that had no traditional structures and tons of different melodies in them

  • @JeromeDukes
    @JeromeDukes 5 лет назад +2

    Hell yeah, I liked this song, love the melodic nature of the song, had a Celtic Folk metal feel. Agree, this would be cool live. Great review and choice. I'm not sure what term people use to describe the rapid fire of the kicks. The term I've always used is "machine gunning the double kicks". Agree, I was a sucker for that sound the double bass drums made, however these days, I don't even notice it anymore. In regards to Adagio "The Stringless Violin", there were elements I liked, but overall for me the song fell short of being really good. I think the reason mostly, there wasn't a melody that captured my attention.
    Lastly, you played piano and bass and don't anymore? Here is some advise from a person who stop playing drums for 15 years and wished he didn't. If you have the talent and a good comprehension of music and enjoy it. The worst thing you can do for yourself is quit playing. Take it from someone who regrets stopping, because I always think about how much better I could've been. It gets harder to learn the older you get, but I still pushed through with the guitar which I took up at age 42. I will never be great on guitar but I could've been great on drums.

    • @JustJP
      @JustJP  5 лет назад +2

      Thanks for giving Adagio a try!
      I played piano/bass, but never really connected with them. Drums is what I really took to, but unfortunately I haven't owned a pair in a long time. Bought a set originally when I lived at my parents, but sold it when I moved out into a duplex/apartment. Bought an electronic set so I could keep up/keep quiet-ish, but it broke down after a while and I haven't bought a new one since.

      @@JustJP Holy Crap Justin, piano, bass and drums LOL. All you have to do now is learn a little guitar, invest in a home recording studio, and put your imagination to work. I live in a condo, so drums were put on the backburner. Although, I did purchase the electric kit, to try and maintain some level of drumming. My Dad (he passed) played guitar, and the guitar was just sitting at my Moms for years. So learn off youtube about 10 years ago, just to occupy my spare time. As it turned out, it was one of the best investments I've ever made with my time. The thing about the guitar vs the drums, is I'm mobile with the guitar and can pick it up anytime. I always tell people, the best gift you can give yourself is learning to play an instrument and never quit playing. If drums are your thing, then just get it done. Cheers.

    I would recommend either Forget Not, or And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope by Ne Obliviscaris. The growl vocals can be a little jarring if you aren't used to them, but they are such beautiful songs. For something more straight power metal, Carolus Rex by Sabaton is such a heavy hitting kick ass tune.

    That song was a category 4, not strong enough to blow out the windows but definitely some power behind it. The Stringless Violin, too. I liked TSV better but I’m quite a few years removed from being into that type of music so I will likely not listen to either again.
    Mars, The Bringer of War by Gustav Holst is a category 5 orchestral piece. It sounds like a massive assault/invasion taking place. The performance by James Levine and the Chicago Symphony is pretty intense.

    Nah. Never did much for me on the brief listen I gave it. A minute ago I checked their most familiar songs and I barely recognize them.
    Much prefer Helloween, another German band of this sort. Their most popular song is probably Keeper of the Seven Keys, a kitschy fantasy epic. There's more than one part. They have a quite impressive vocalist. The founding member - who may or may not be the aforementioned singer - started another band called Gamma Ray. They have a bunch of good songs. Talking about it makes me wanna revisit those more than listen to Blind Guardian some more.
    Then there's the American Manowar, of course...used to love their Hail To England record. Recently listened again and it was ok. Maybe it needs headphones to really pop. Iced Earth is another band I barely remember.
