My favorite moment of this is one I haven't seen anyone mention. Banjo and Diddy teaming up is a reference to Diddy Kong Racing which was the first game Banjo appeared in. Sakurai puts so many great references for the hardcore fans in every character trailer.
It was actually really smart to reveal "The Hero" and Banjo in the same show. Banjo is obviously a huge deal in the West, but in Japan, Dragon Quest is so insanely popular that it has to release on Saturdays as to not adversely affect the Japanese economy from people calling in sick to play. Either way, both regions got something they really wanted on the same day, taking away some of the disappointment that would happen if they were revealed seperately.
