The fact that he can shred in no man’s land (above the 11th fret ) like it’s nothing is incredible. Yes he has a once in a lifetime gift but he’s spent thousands of hours with a mandolin in his hand perfecting the special talent that God blessed him with and 99% of people will never get to experience.
Wow wow wow. Where to begin? The spot on rhythmic superimpositions, the beautiful outline of the changes in all of his lines, the never-ending ideas and beautiful use of the mandolin's range, the powerful, near-perfect singing. It just goes on.
Actually, this was by far the most interesting crowd I have ever seen (and I have seen Chris play 6 times). They were silent during every song, but when it was done they would clap for (literally) 2 minutes. No joke. You could see the awkwardness on Chris’ face after the first minute of clapping. I don’t know if that is typical of Spain, of Jazz (as we were at a Jazz Fest in Barcelona), but i don’t lie when I say 2 minutes of clapping.
I feel qualified to answer this question as I live in Spain, and usually if the people really admire what the performer has done (especially in medium-sized shows) whether they have been talks, concerts or drama plays, we can stand around five minutes clapping :D
It's pretty cool being able to watch the evolution of this prodigy, it's must be what it was like hearing Paganini back in the day; this guy has got to be the greatest technician on this instrument in history; that's not to say he's the best. I think as he gets older and wiser we will hopefully hear his heart more like some of the great masters of this instrument, but even they must marvel at what he can do... amazing
man.. whats your point? chris thile is just an incredibly musical human beeing. this is not about technique or even about the mandolin. just listen. he has a gift much greater than good technique.
lol, prodigy? Your kidding rightt? Im a bloody novice and I can play that..not to mention better.....weak Mant and unconfvincing vocals....boring, and lack luster. though i hope he continues to get better!
@RubbershoeGaming Ah, yes; great work continuing the long-standing tradition of devoted mandolin players who belittle fellow musicians in RUclips comment sections😂😂
+Eric Slater He actually covered Kendrick Lamar's "Alright" on Prairie Home Companion (skip down to "Alright, Song for a Young Queen"): prairiehome.publicradio.org/listen/?date=2016/02/06
He lived in Murray Ky for some years not far from me. Very talented young man. But what in the hell is he doing with all that body movement Makes hime look like he's having some kind of epileptic problem.

Love to hear from all of you… have you ever seen a musician so connected to his instrument before? This just blows my mind!!

It kills me how he travis picks the mandolin with total ease, shifts to a blistering solo, all while singing. Genius.
His mastery of the mandolin is complete; absolute. Brilliant. A great artist - where technical wizardry and impetuous innovation are manifest. Bravo!

Mark Millard your comment just make me cry
Best crowd ever !
They don’t wanted to lose any sound of it by the claps ❤️

Great talent - so inspiring. Got to meet him after a show and he was so friendly to everyone too.
Looking forward to seeing him this Friday in Alaska...every musician that isn't playing that night will be there!
He's always mindblowing..😳!
The Man just gets better and better ... love it!
This almost makes me cry it's so good.
Is there anything this guy can't do on the mandolin?! His ability is unreal!
Fantastic mandolin and musical interpretation of one of my favorite songs!!!

I distinctly remember him sighing and saying: "Kendrick never has to tune his mandolin." It was absolutely hilarious.
