Listened to 'Punch' because of this. Movements 3 & 4 of The Blind Leaving the Blind are two of the most amazing bits of music written this century. Possibly ever. Gospel mashed up with Led Zeppelin? Anyone else think so?
I don't know weather to lock myself in the music room and practice for 4 years - or burn the mandolin in the fireplace and take up weaving. A national TREASURE! Chris- you are in an entire ballpark of your own!
I feel the exact same way every time I hear him perform. Inspired and discouraged.

Well, I'm compelled to work harder. First project is an easy one... learn the Smoothie song! Had to sample it down in speed to pull out really fast stuff. The trick is to decipher the licks which are his versions of classic smokey mountain solos. He has to have a suitcase of these he pulls from. I'm on the OM, so the 32nd notes are out! Once you can do about 10 of these in G, C, A, D and E,
You have an arsenal. Just score them, then hum along while playing to burn into your brain/muscle memory. Just try to hear the accents...phrasing...weighting. One thing I can add on the OM is triplets - because hammering is easier. The classical stuff...forgeddaboudit.
Best mandolin player to ever walk on planer earth.....
Glorious!
He started with a bach pieces, wonderful
Como é que se diz FENOMENAL em estrangeiro?
I WAS THE ONE HE SAID WAS SEXY! I'll proudly admit it as this is chris thile after all
I really dig his voice
If only he could be more uninhibited and just let himself go, he could have his own radio show!!
Brain food. Enjoy!
