Finally a video that describes the shot shapes. Some of them I was a little confused on what makes it that type of shot, but you did a great job of explaining it (once I did the RH to LH conversion) thank you!
This is probably the most important video in the entire series. Thank you, my bag is changed almost exclusively to dynamic, honestly mostly due to the fantastic youtube presence (and the warden keeping me honest lol). Keep it up guys! From Manitoba Canada ;)
My brother got me into watching this series. Danny is just fantastic. I'm working on picking out the videos to work on a couple things, and rewatch until I improve. Absolutely love how he breaks everything down. So helpful
Thanks Danny. I learn something that I can incorporate in my game from almost every one of your video's. I love setting the speed of your videos to 0.25 (when you throw) to fully appreciate what you're saying. Anyone trying this, it's the little gear knob on the lower right of the screen - just turn the volume down, otherwise Danny sounds heavily medicated. Haha.
Hi! Ive only played disc golf once so far. You have a great way of wording concepts. This was one of the most educational and well-out videos I've seen on RUclips thus far. Keep up your great work, cheers.
Great instruction. I've been doing a lot of driving range work this past week, 406 drives from Wednesday to Saturday working on form, learning my discs and finally seeing them fly as they should. In the process, I started playing with release angles. Great work Danny!!! Keep it coming...
Great Stuff DD and Danny! Love the flight table. You guys should put that on cards or stickers and sell it. Speaking of merch...how about we do a new contest? I need a backpack bag.....if you were looking for a suggested prize... On another topic, many stick golfers switch to disc golf. I suggest a building the bag video where you contrast buying a set of golf clubs (usually all at once) versus growing a bag of discs (usually one or a few discs at a time). I think the concept of new/used as it relates to stable/understable is tough to grasp. A stick golfer cannot easily relate to having four 5-irons in the bag, each more "beat" than the last. I also think it is a major reason why discs are not sold in sets like clubs with four putters (over to understable), four mids, four fairways, and four drivers. That and certain weight considerations. All that said, DD should package and sell a "full" set like I suggest. If you like, you can practice on me for free...I'll even take old runs of discs to help clear the warehouse (167 grams please)...you could put them in an old backpack bag.... Keep the awesome vids coming.
These videos are super helpful! Any chance you could include the flight numbers on the screen of discs you are talking about? I’m not as well versed with the Dynamic Disc lineup and it would help me follow along easier
Just two points for new players: All the shot shapes can be done with a forehand (counterclockwise throw) and they all reverse when done that way. Also, a roller generally curves towards the dome-side of the disc at the end, so if you want a roller to curve the other way even with a backhand, just flip the disc around and put your thumb in the hole.
The one thing missing here is maybe a brief discussion of forehand rollers. I'd always understood that you'd want an overstable disc for fh rollers, though I've also thrown my share of throllers with understable forehands.
This is a very useful video. Although it’s “simple” it makes you rethink every disc in your bag and how you’re using them. I’d love to see an infographic of the shot shape chart along with the resulting flight.
I can't always remember what each disc is supposed to do. So once I figure out the typical flight path for a disc I grab a permanent marker and draw a diagram on the underside. I make a short straight line left to right, representing the front edge of the tee, then just draw out the flight path going away from the center of that line (think upside down T shape, but with the leg of the T representing the path). This gives me a quick and easy way to know what to expect when I grab a disc. It works better for me than the numbers, but then the numbers are a really new thing to me. Most of my discs are 20+ years old and don't even have the numbers.
Great job guys! Danny your way of explaining everything is always easy to process and also inspirational to keep playing and better my game! Thank a bunch, keep it up! #bedynamic
I've spent days reading articles and watching videos and haven't come close to finding something as helpful as this video. Thank you! I am still confused about how you're using the terms "stability" and "fade" interchangeably though. With the 4 number flight system theres 1 number for the stability and 1 number for the fade and it seems you're talking about both as if they're the same thing. Additionally as someone who shoots LHBH I've found it very confusing to read articles and watch videos just trying to think about everything backwards. I'd LOVE for a video like this geared toward LHBH throwers. There's really nothing great out there for it.
Stability is made up of a combination of turn and fade. The combination of those two ratings make up a discs stability. With the 4 number flight system there are NO numbers for stability. Best of luck :)
Wait are you gripping the disc differently for different release angles? I just move my front foot laterally to change my upper body angle and that works great for me. Because danny is holding that disc lower than his hand, he would be holding it on hyzer
I like your OS/S/US chart. I've been playing for about two years, and while your chart makes sense, I still don't know how to know where a disc fits on your chart.
It's all relative to your throw. If you throw a disc flat and it turns over for the whole flight, it's understable, or if it doesnt turn at all, it's overstable, etc.
Any of you disc golf RUclipsrs, when you talk about discs, please say what the NUMBERS on the disc are so I don't have to look them up myself. I don't necessarily HAVE the disc you talk about, but I might have a disc similar so I can try the throws with MY discs.
I like Stable for a flat flight. Anything else is unstable. I would vote for Stable (flat), and then positive and negative unstable. + unstable meaning natural fade, and negative being a flippy or 'under-stable' disc. The reason I'd like this is because when a disc is way over-stable people just yell "Wow that disc is STABLE!" as if saying the word loudly adds the "over" prefix. Maybe a torque rating. "Roll Torque"...
Hello. Sorry maybe it's just me but only a month and a half into the sport, and 35 games haha, still trying to learn. I feel your video is a bit too fast pace and it would help a lot that is you mention a disc, you put the flight numbers up on the screen. Also when you mention an under-stable disc, for exemple, without naming one, it's kinda hard to figure out. There is a huge difference between my roadrunner -4/1 and Vandal -1.5/2 and they are both considered under-stable.. ;)
With the right headwind any disc is understable... i wish someone would have told me that before spending an entire day turning over stable disc upside down on the fairway.
lol He said its kinda basic and I'm over here with a notepad and pencil trying to figure out why my discs only fly well when they are going toward water....
Honestly, as interesting as the science behind it is, just going to some field with a bag of discs will probably teach you just as much about the flight of the discs. And nobody else can teach you about what they do out of your hand specifically, anyway.
So is there something other than endless hours of watching throws that entitles Danny to being an “expert” enough to publish video opinion for DD? Does he have a degree of some kind like Feldberg?
Other than being sponsored by DD I can think of a few things that make him QUALIFIED, not “entitled”, to make ACCURATE INFORMATION, not “opinions” for DD’s page. 1) He has a great understanding of the game 2) Knows how to put into words and illustrate information that can be difficult to articulate 3) Is at a skill level where he’s more familiar with the questions and concerns the average disc golfer may have 4) Truly enjoys the process of improving his game 5) Has been making content to help beginners and grow the game on his own channel long before getting sponsored 6) People like me who stick to a specific brand and never given DD a try may see this and want to support them. Thanks Danny and DD for putting together yet another great video for me to reference and share with others.
His eyes sparkle warmly when he talks disc golf...and are cold as glaciers when he throws...his huck face has turned men to stone... Opinion has two requirements: interest and insight. Both are met. Also, Feldberg rules...that is all.
It is amazing how much better this series is than any other beginner instructional. Nice work Danny
It may be basic, but it's exactly what I need to learn. I've been playing 6 weeks now and need this type of knowledge. Great job.
This is a great series and Danny is a great instructor. DD you made a smart move when you brought him on-board.
Truth!
Finally a video that describes the shot shapes. Some of them I was a little confused on what makes it that type of shot, but you did a great job of explaining it (once I did the RH to LH conversion) thank you!
This is more useful than the last 20 videos I watched. Thanks .
This is probably the most important video in the entire series. Thank you, my bag is changed almost exclusively to dynamic, honestly mostly due to the fantastic youtube presence (and the warden keeping me honest lol). Keep it up guys! From Manitoba Canada ;)
The disc tracker is a lifesaver. I could never see where shots went before you added it.
Absolutely! That circle is 100x easier to track than just a disc alone. Please keep adding them.
great job explaining the physics behind it. Your teaching style is the best I've seen on the subject.
According to my stats I've watched an avg of 4 hrs a day for almost 2 yrs on RUclips and this is my favorite content creator. Thank you Danny
This is an extremely comprehensive video about this topic. I’m saving this one and watching a few more times. Thanks!!
By far the most informative video I've watched! Helps for understanding how to throw, and also the commentary on pro tournaments!
This is the video I've been looking for. Brilliant and expertly presented.
My brother got me into watching this series. Danny is just fantastic. I'm working on picking out the videos to work on a couple things, and rewatch until I improve. Absolutely love how he breaks everything down. So helpful

Danny is the best, he makes things simple and presents them in a clear understandable way. Well done sir.
Hi! Ive only played disc golf once so far.
You have a great way of wording concepts. This was one of the most educational and well-out videos I've seen on RUclips thus far. Keep up your great work, cheers.
If there was an Academy Awards for RUclips, this would win the Oscar for Best Informative Video.
By far the best video on shot shapes I have watched. Well done!
Hands down the best instructional videos out there!
Excellent presentation. The video examples being shown while explaining is perfect.
Holy moley this was so beneficial to see with the diagram of shot shapes. Thanks for doing this!
Great instruction. I've been doing a lot of driving range work this past week, 406 drives from Wednesday to Saturday working on form, learning my discs and finally seeing them fly as they should. In the process, I started playing with release angles. Great work Danny!!! Keep it coming...
As a "nonneurotypical"" reasoner i found this very useful indeed. Its easier to understand the whole process if the basics are included. Thank you.
Nice work, Danny! This was very very helpful!
Man, this video has been so helpful for me as a new player. Thank you!
Physics of Flight is back. Yay. Probably the best disc golf instruction videos out there. Keep them coming. :D
Danny you are a great teacher! Thanks for the hard work!
Oh man I had to subscribe when I saw you rolling down the hill. Informative and hilarious.
Video editing on this was on point. GG
Well done. You clearly articulated the difference and nomenclature of discs and disc terminology.
Love these videos so much! Keep doing them, I'll keep buying Dynamic!
Love this one!
Love your clips!🙂👍
Big help to a beginner!
Just asked for this in another one of your vids, Danny. Keep them coming. I'm sending all my friends just getting into the sport right to your series.
Well done Danny. Well done
Great info. Thanks for a great video.
Thank you Danny and DD! Love the video series!
Great video, Danny.
Good stuff, thanks!

Great stuff. This will be really fantastic for newer players.
Great video Danny! Again!
Nice! Casey Kasem!
Great video!
Thank you Danny
Great episode man, I've just been confusing the people I play with when I try to explain this stuff. Well done.

Too much info for me to handle in one go, so I'll watch it 300 times.
This is a very useful video. Although it’s “simple” it makes you rethink every disc in your bag and how you’re using them. I’d love to see an infographic of the shot shape chart along with the resulting flight.
Thanks for watching! Good call on the infographic - we'll consider that for future videos!

"Max D" lol. Took me a moment.
great video! keep it up
7:14 start with hyzer release👍🏼😂👍🏼 actually annie grip
Wait are you gripping the disc differently for different release angles? I just move my front foot laterally to change my upper body angle and that works great for me.
Because danny is holding that disc lower than his hand, he would be holding it on hyzer
Fantastic video and presentation, Danny. Btw what course are you at?
This is at Jones East park in Emporia!
great video

6:58 eas access to description of diagram
I pledged the first thumbs up! ...I put in in the drop box at KC dynamicDiscs. 0.o
so whats faster a disc shaped vs aero shaped object ?
Any of you disc golf RUclipsrs, when you talk about discs, please say what the NUMBERS on the disc are so I don't have to look them up myself. I don't necessarily HAVE the disc you talk about, but I might have a disc similar so I can try the throws with MY discs.
Danny, you threw the maverick on a flip line and the defender on a flat line. :P

ROLL!!!!!!!😝@9:21
I like these videos, but idk if you should say “penetration” so much
Love this series, Danny! You didn't throw that disc the exact same way! Just saying!
i mean a bullet like disc vs normal bullet
lol He said its kinda basic and I'm over here with a notepad and pencil trying to figure out why my discs only fly well when they are going toward water....
Kansas gang
I think you’re thinking about this too much, just throw the disc and see what it does...

Danny holds a Doctorate in Form
Other than being sponsored by DD I can think of a few things that make him QUALIFIED, not “entitled”, to make ACCURATE INFORMATION, not “opinions” for DD’s page.
1) He has a great understanding of the game
2) Knows how to put into words and illustrate information that can be difficult to articulate
3) Is at a skill level where he’s more familiar with the questions and concerns the average disc golfer may have
4) Truly enjoys the process of improving his game
5) Has been making content to help beginners and grow the game on his own channel long before getting sponsored
6) People like me who stick to a specific brand and never given DD a try may see this and want to support them.
Thanks Danny and DD for putting together yet another great video for me to reference and share with others.
